This game needs an option to prevent unintenional stealing.
Hey everybody,
I'd like to make a suggestion to improve this game: An option in the game settings just like the one preventing attacking innoncent NPCs. Why add this option? Because many crafting stations hold some useless items that are stealable and will give a bounty when you just tried to use the crafting station. Like the cooking fire in Stormhaven.
I think this is absolutely mandatory since you can even unintentionally steal from a house because a NPC move just when you tried to talk to him, and this is getting super annoying. The most annoying thing being: you can't leave a building when chased by guards.
Well I hope people will agree that we need this in the game.

Thymos✭✭✭✭✭It's not stealing until you actually take the item... looking is ok. I also make my own guard escape potions. They make me immune to holds, boost my run speed, and restore stamina all in one potion. Cernow✭✭✭✭The problem is that all the white quality items that are placed near to crafting stations, merchants, quest npcs etc were put there for flavour before the Justice system was implemented. Now they are just a liability for misclicks. Yes players can learn to be more careful, but they shouldn't have to. It's just yet more lazy design.
Essentially if you pick up a white quality weapon in a rack next to the blacksmith you are immediately assumed to be stealing it and are penalised. It's the equivalent of being accused of shoplifting because you picked up an item in a store to browse it.
There just needs to be a check put in place to ask you to confirm your action (or a toggle, as the OP suggests).9 -

Taking items is A or X .. depending if single or multiple
Illegal items it asks you first before stealing which button X or A
If you put Auto Loot on it still doesn't Auto Loot Stolen items unless you Turn Auto Loot Stolen items on.
So unless you are button mashing and not paying attention, there should be no problemZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing1 -

Read before clicking, watch what are you doing, dont mash random buttons and pay attention to what is happening on screen.
All of above is a common sense which is unfortunately lacking nowadays .4 -
Actually I'm on PC and I was talking about little vegetables hanging in front of the fire. No way to turn off autoloot in this case, and I wasn't rushing everything around, the vegetables are a little bit buggued and not targetable at certains camera angles, and targetable at other. Since I used this fire to cook for the last days without being able to target them I thought they were just vanity... But they weren't. Point is: This option is 100% benefit for all players, so why don't you want it?1

PCs are better than consoles. That's the point.
Kids buy up pretty much any game for consoles play them for a bit then buy another so comparing game sales is just silly.
Also, any game that is on console that has a pc counterpart pales in comparison 99 percent of the time. I only say 99 because there may be an acception but I'm not aware of any myself.

Don't forget that we don't actually have to think about anything either. No mods, no complicated key strokes and no mouse. Plus everything pretty much comes prepackaged and we don't have to spend as much. Can you imagine a really good gaming rig for $450 bucks? I don't think so.0 -
toad_123✭so to get back to the original topic, there is a way to change your controls (may take some time to get used to) where interact or steal is a/x and jump is pressing down on your analog stick. I personally would rather pay off the 80 gold bounty than get used to this play style but its a viable option none the less.Xbox NA only

For $450 you can build a rig that's better then both consoles and you would have access to mods and the PC community.Don't forget that we don't actually have to think about anything either. global_gbb16_ESO✭✭✭OT - yeah it's a problem; for example sometimes I will hit E to open up the workbench for clothing or whatever but there was a bloody sword lying next to it and all of a sudden have a guard attacking me.
Seriously, a guard attacking me for a sword worth about -5 gold which I never meant to pick up anyway pfft.

Meh, I never get into that argument. I prefer games on PC for these reasons:- I own them completely, and can do whatever I want with them, including modifying the heck out of them.
- Never cared for controllers, preferring mouse and keyboard (more accuracy and control, for me)
- Add-ons
- ALT-TAB to anything else I want to do on the computer
- Doesn't tie up the TV, equating to a less-irritated wife
- Portability: Can play many of them on my notebook, taking them on trips en such.
There might be others, but those are what come to mind right now
