Why are these incremental patches so gigantic?

The law in the EU is irrelevant to the topic of the thread. In EU and in NA or even in China the patches are just too big. They need to be smaller.

That's what the Terms of Service are. A legally-binding description of a non-tangible service.

Terms Of Service can not trump consumer law.

Steam just found this out in Australia.

Even if I willingly sign up to ZOZ ToS those ToS can not trump my legally enshrined consumer protection, no matter how much those ToS may claim otherwise.

But you can't "enshrine" protection that is subjectively interpreted from the law.

ZeniMax has no legal obligation to publicly disclose the full contents of their files, the same way a corporation doesn't have to publicly list their manufacturing schedules, upcoming product, business practices, shipments, operations, client lists, or trade secrets.

ZeniMax only has to ensure that your data is protected, not inform you of every unique asset in their coding.

But for a convenient shortcut - you WILL download everything available in the game, probably including entire game packs. That way those services can be instantly transferred to those who lease it. The system already works that way. Every Crown Store item is instantly leased to you as soon as you trade Crowns for it.

I download my patches while drinking Coca-Cola @ the Apple Store.

I know. And after all, the world is filled with people like you. Who am I to judge the slaves. Enjoy your drink.

    Think of it like this:

-You have a 60GB game, all files included.
-That game is split up into a bunch of different parts: 10gb for world maps/terrain, 10gb for character details, 10gb for skill trees, so on and so forth.
-Because of the way ZOS designed the game, they cannot send a one line of code change to players in an update.

So, if they change 1 skill in one skill tree, they cant just push out that little file - they have to have you re-download the entire 10gb skill tree file.

It's poor programming and poor optimization. Zenimax has great storytellers, great visual content designers, and great gameplay designers, but they have buggerall for competent programmers.

That is what happens when you outsource work.

You don't need to outsource to develop bad.

(Developer since the early 90s here).

    Nice admission..

    ;)
