When I heard there was fishing in ESO I got mage-hyped..to catch a few fish...
Well...what ESO didn't tell me is that fishing sucks [snip]. I sit for 10 minutes with guts, crawlers, worms and other baits trying to catch fish.....3 fish and LOADS of used baits... What is the point?

Just a quick guide:
Worms for sea water
Guts for lakes
Insects for rivers
Crawlers for foul water.
You can usually tell the type of water by the types of fish you catch.

GilGalad✭✭✭✭✭The point is to use the right bait for the environment where you are fishing (river, lake, ...). You might take a look at any fishing guide or find it out by yourself. If you get used bait you are doing it wrong.1 -
Fartman✭✭✭I wish they would've made it like Ultima Online. We had boats we could fish off and store things on. When we reached 100 (Grand master and highest you could get) You could fish up SoS bottles, which contained treasure maps. Also you could get coordinates and fish up a Treasure chest... Now when I say treasure chest this thing was LOADED. It had paintings for your house, which could sell for $10k gold (you started out with 100 gold, so that was a lot), magic items, plants for your home which could sell for the same, tons of gold.... I've never seen fishing done right. There needs to be some other element to it like that to make me want to waste my time.3 -
Sentinel✭✭✭✭If you're getting used baits that means you're using the wrong type of bait for the fishing hole that you're at. Different areas (Ocean, lake, river, foul) require different baits to attract the fish that hang out there. Theres a nifty book on it in game somewhere. RIvers need: Insects or shad. Foul needs: Crawlers, fish roe (Not perfect roe, dont mix that up). Lakes need: Guts and minnow. Ocean needs: Worms and chub.
To identify what type of location you're at, well, best look around
. If its a bit ambiguous, send a bait flyin in there and see if it's used bait. Once you find the bait that works and doesnt give used bait, you're good.
As for rewarding, fishing can yield perfect roe, a highly sought after material for crafting XP pots. To get a perfect roe, one must 'skin' the low tiered fish (by using them).
Fishing can be fun for some, relaxing, or a pain in the [snip] for others. It helps to know the basics though.

This. The chance at Perfect Roe helped a ton. It's a step in the right direction. But man oh man would it be freakin cool if ESO fishing were half as good as UO.

I did. I remember going out to sea and catching treasure chests and old boots lol. Just the chance at all the cool things you could fish up (including monsters) made it soo much fun.

Heck yes it did! For me, nothing has even come close for an MMORPG, the depth in that game, 17 years ago was wayyyyy beyond anything, and way beyond this game unfortunately. If this game had housing and vendors like UO did, and fishing... I would be in love!0 -

You probably should have looked into how to fish before going out and wasting all of your bait. There's a book that can be found multiple places in-game that tells you what bait to use where, or you could have checked on the forums or googled it.
