Can't patch launcher without having to 'repair'

In last month or so i've had a slightly annoying (but not critical) issue with the Launcher - It works exactly as intended 99% of the time.
However every time there is incremental upgrade, the patcher starts downloading and then fails after several minutes. I then have to do a Repair and it all updates and then runs fine (until the next update).
The annoying thing is that I can't run the updates unattended, having to wait several minutes until it fails and then run the repair.
Any suggestions?

✭✭What error messages do you see? If it's mainly error 209 (Patch_ManifestError), does closing the launcher and reopening it display the "Play" button again?
Have you already disabled App Nap for the Launcher.app?
If you're on WiFi, is it possible that you try patching while connected via network cable?0 -

App napp disabled and no it's not a 209 error. The patching starts normally and somewhere half way through it fails - it just says could 'could not patch files (possibly in use)' or some such, recommends repair which works fine and the update continues to download and install fine...
Not a critical error as it all patches fine, just an annoyance as can't be left unsupervised.0
