Mounts I can understand, even the costumes, but what's the point of the pets?

They make some of us happy to watch, therefore an incentive to buy them. Do you really need any more of an explanation than that? Lol!

thank you. I'm starting to wonder about this community (new to ESO). But everything I've read is why doesn't this ___ provide a buff? Or why can't I do ____, I could do it in other games. Why, why, why, why. It's rather annoying and it's a turn off to new people in the community. It's a *** pet because, they put pets in the game.

Though there are aesthetic reasons for many, like perhaps the comfort of a recognizable bark while in a particularly nasty dungeon (after getting KO'd multiple times trying to solo a group delve for instance), I personally would like some manner of functionality to be added, whether limited combat or buff skills, or fetching items from hard to reach areas; but more meaningful interaction is the idea.

Perhaps with the introduction of housing, pets can become more than just un-interactable followers.

Fetching items would be awesome! And your pet would only perform based on a happiness meter, which is filled by feeding or caring for your pet.

No. ESO is not going to become The Littlest Pet Shop, no matter how much you want it to be.

I don't see what would be wrong about a mini-mini game (let's be honest, you feed it 1 thing a day to make sure it performs is not a mini-game) about feeding pets. You already have the pets. Might as well add some immersion™ to them.

Would much prefer ZoS add meaningful content and improve their game. Get rid of VR already and launch Imperial City. It's about time they actually earn our Sub money rather than take it for granted as they have been. A different colored wedding dress or pet function IS NOT IT.

Where I do understand what you're saying and where you're coming from, I suppose it just comes off as whiney to me more than anything. I understand wanting to make a game better or wanting fresh new ideas implemented. But to be fair a lot of what I've been reading here is people trying to make this game like whatever game they played in the past....which if you ask me, sounds even more boring playing the same style or adaptation of a game for over 17 years than playing a new game, with new features (or different features) and a different feel. It is supposed to be different, because it's a different game. I feel as though people forget that.

No, the problem is that there are so many closed-minded people who can't understand that different people like different things. Some people only like things that have an in-game effect, and some people like things that are purely cosmetic. Neither is wrong - they just like different things. The people who are wrong are the people who throw insults at people who like different things than they do, and who try to make sure people only play the way they want them to play.

What you don't understand, since you obviously never played the game I'm specifically referring to... that I first picked up and played online some 16 years ago with my DSL connection, is that that game had a ton MORE to do in it... we want to add things in to this game because it is extremely vanilla right now. There are a ton of MMORPG's, and you kind of reach the point where the only difference is the story line. Age specific, and true to the lore games, are very hard to just throw in a ton of brand new ideas that weren't thought of, since these kind of games have been around for what I said, near 20 years, and in that time there have been hundreds of them released... you can't possibly sit there and say that now, just because it is an Elder Scrolls game, that it's gonna be a brand new, innovative experience in the very beginning. We want things added in that worked in other MMORPG's because it makes sense in the lore and land in this specific game. IE housing, text chat on consoles, and a lot more... Again, it's a general discussion forum, where people are discussing ways in making this game SUCCEED. Nobody wants it to be a carbon copy of their previous MMORPG experience, but they definitely wanna make this a game they fall in love with, and to do that, those people need certain things that they love in an MMORPG. It's fun to discuss things you want, and fun to read different takes on things. Enjoy it, contribute... I don't know if this is your first one, but I'm sure if it is, on the next one you play... you'll wanna see certain things from this game, incorporated in it.

Speaking of cigars - why don't they sell cigars in the crown store? Or better yet, a big joint? I'd love to see my bosmer night blade rolling around cyrodil on a leopard smoking a big joint. Perhaps with greenish smoke? Esotu is all about choice is it not? Whose to say My character doesn't need some medical "pipe weed," of course prescribed by a certified healer, to combat my aches and pains from fighting players with too many CP? It's entirely lore appropriate! This new customiAtion option should be first on their list of priorities. My back hurts!

Actually I swear if the devs don't address this immediately I'm quitting.

I would like pets to be some kind of.. walking backpack - maybe being able to give them things to "hold" ie - an increase in inv space. But, that's just wishful thinking really.

I like that the Pets they've introduced into the game are fairly lore friendly ( not sure the same can be said for the flaming horse, which I can't stand ) and I like seeing the little bantam guar tearing across the grass following its owner, or listen to the cute noises that little fox makes. I know some people hate them, even the Daedric pets with uses, but I like them myself.
And, I much prefer that the store remain cosmetic, rather than anything else it could become.

    That's just me though.

What a wise, kind, open minded comment. *clap clap*

I enjoy my companion pet. When i'm questing and adventuring I enjoy to imagine they are my little companions following me.
I've several pets, but each of my character have a defined one. My main character, Breton Templar have a dog, and my khajiit (on PS4) have a house cat, but I consider it as an Alfiq and my Khajiit sister.
I remove the pets in difficult content such as gold key Dungeon or DSA to not be disturbing.

How about just giving each pet a small passive effect while they are active/summoned? Just an example, Daedric Scamp can give +5% damage to destruction magic, Banekin can give +5% damage to summoned Daedric pets, Bravil Retriever increases gold find by 5% and actively auto-loots nearby corpses, Senche pet increases stamina pool, Wrothgar Wraith increases magica pool etc.

Just small little boons that also give a meaning to their existence and why you have them active.

The numbers used are just for example, not what I would suggest. I imagine doing something like this would as always take a lot of testing and balancing to not make one specific pet an absolute mustto have slotted for everyone or else you fall behind.

This has already been suggested, and Jessica Folsom have answered in a ESO life that it would not happen, because they do not want to enforce players to use those pets if they don't want to. Also if the dog is good for stamina, and the cat for magika and I don't want to use a dog, what should I do?
I think it's better to leave the pets as cosmetic items. Use them or not, it all depend of your personal taste.

I think the best word you can use to define pets are "clutter".

They just clutter up the game, specifically in towns and cities. It's inconsistent. There wouldn't be pets running about in a bank. Same thing with daedric summons. All they do is clutter spaces with people in it, making everything look out of place and silly.

Just wait until they start releasing tonics like that stupid GW2. Everything becomes silly and plain stupid. The clutter ruins my immersion.
