On PC I can travel between starter island and beginner city using the wayshrines but that is not possible on the XB1. I can move around on the island but have to catch the boat back to the city. I have asked and no one has told me otherwise so I guess it is so.

I found this out last night when I was trying to find the way back to another location. I always stopped zooming out when it was an overview of the current map you're on as I had no idea they would let you zoom all the way out to see Tamriel.. You just need to hold Left Trigger/Right Trigger to zoom out/in and you can travel anywhere you have discovered.
I could have sworn you got a pop-up telling you that the first time you go to a wayshrine. I could be remembering wrong though.bertenburnyb16_ESO wrote: »Lololooool Ye its dumb its never mentioned somewhere in the tutorial, but yes just run to the closest wayshrine, saves u a lotta gold in the long run

There's a text somewhere in-game (and I can't remember its name, otherwise I'd post a link to it, as I'm sure the text from it must be on uesp or some other site) that explains, in theoretical terms, why we can teleport to wayshrines. In a nutshell (as far as I remember it anyway - I might get some parts of this slightly wrong), the wayshrines were erected by pilgrims and worshipers at "holy" places where the barrier between Aetherius and Mundus is thin. As a vestige (or possibly specifically as a "paragon" vestige) we have an intrinsic ability to travel from one of these places where Aetherius can be reached to another, as long as we have attuned ourselves to them. This is apparently only theoretically possible for an individual whose soul has somehow had its connection to Mundus broken.I agree who exactly are you paying you are in the middle of nowhere you just tossing a pile of gold in the air or something? Teleportation has always been a magic spell in elder scrolls it should be here too. The pay to port is just dumb.

Ha ha, yeah that one took me a long time to figure out too. Not quite as long as it took you, but it was at least a few months before I noticed that was possible. Also something I didn't realise until my 6th character was on the last part of the main quest - you can use any wayshrine to port to the Harborage. I cannot tell you how much facepalming I did when I finally (after playing for MORE than a year!) realised that.

No, you can do everything you can on PC. You just need to hold Left Trigger/Right Trigger to zoom out/in and you can travel anywhere you have discovered.
