pay to fast travel.. whats your opinion on the matter?

I feel its one of the more annoying features of the game personally.

I understand its there to promote exploration (at least I THINK that's its purpose) because im much more likely to walk or ride somewhere if I see that itll cost me 100gold or more to get there.
and in turn it helps levelling since youll almost definitely run into a good handful of bad guys on the way or discover some dungeon to clear.
however im still not a fan. theres enough in this game to spend your gold on without adding fast travel to that list. especially when theyre charging 42,700 for a mount.
ive taken to looking at it as the ESO taxi (and I don't like taxis either lol :P) it takes you where you want to go, you don't have to do any of the work but itll cost you.

I like the fact that you can fast travel from anywhere, unlike the witcher 3 where you have to find a sign post first. even if there is plenty of them its still a bit of a pain. but this is the first game I know of where you have to pay to fast travel. that being said my experience with mmorpg's is WoW 12ish years ago, destiny in the last year (if you can count destiny as an mmorpg) and now EOS.

I just hope it wont become the "new thing" in games in the future.

how do you feel about having to either pay to fast travel or spending a good 40 minutes (if not more) running through the wilderness trying to get to the other side of the country?
its not like your paying an npc to coach you there or anything.. you teleport yourself there using magic.. call me crazy but I always thought magic was free.

Yeah. if you click on the center post of a wayshrine, you can go to any other wayshrine you have ever been to... for free.

The only time it cost gold to travel via Wayshrine is when your not currently at a Shrine. The way to get around this is to travel to other players. Anyone on your friends list or on the guild roster can be traveled to as long as they are in the same Faction as you. Just right click their name and select "Travel to player". It will drop you at the Wayshrine closest to them. Then you can use that Wayshrine and port to anywhere else you've discovered with no costs at all.

I had no idea that it was free from shrine to shrine :) Wow, glad I read this thread. I always ended up just paying 88g for transport even if I was beside a shrine.

    Thanks for the info!

When you're close enough to the middle of the wayshrine a prompt should come up telling you what button to push to use the wayshrine. No idea what it would be on PS4, but the on-screen prompt should tell you.

When you do hit the correct button, it should bring up the map, and then you select which wayshrine to go to, just as if you were doing it the way you have been. One thing to note, though, is that there's a bug that makes it so that on rare occasions when you do this it won't properly recognize that you're at a wayshrine, and you'll notice that it shows a gold price to travel to another wayshrine. Just exit out of the map and try again, and you'll be fine. Of course, this might just be a PC bug - it might not exist on consoles.

You can also travel to a friend or a guild mate (if they are in the same base alliance and in a zone you can reach) by selecting their name in the list and choosing to travel to. Don't ask me how to do that as I am not sure. But traveling to a grouped player or a guild mate or friend is free. You will be sent to the nearest wayshrine to them.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I actually have noticed the prompt. a few time ive gone near a wayshrine that ive already discovered and its prompted me to press x I didn't realise it was for free fast travelling though. I thought it was prompting me to activate it and being that id already activated it I just brushed it off as a bug lol.. go me :p..

Don't buy the 42,000g mounts! Once upon a time they used to have better stats than the 10,000g horse, but mounts no longer have stats. Your character has a "riding skill" that determines how all mounts behave when ridden by that character. Unless you really, really like the look of the 42,000g mounts, don't buy them. They will behave no differently than a 10,000g horse.

Friends list doesn't populate on Xbox currently (dunno if it is fixed in patch) , but I suspect it is just like doing it from group or guild.

I had an idea for Wayshards (pieces of a Wayshrine) that would let players teleport anywhere they wanted to.

I still think it would be a cool idea.

oh god no. I wouldn't pay that much for a mount. id spend that on buying more storage slots or soul gems or something.. anything besides a 40 grand horse. I got the nightmare corsair from the crown store about 10 minutes after I first started playing anyway.

As stated, you only need to pay to fast travel when you're not at a wayshrine. Travel between wayshrines is free. Additionally, you can always travel to guildmates, friends, and group members for free. I often will go to the roster of my largest guild and just port to somebody in the area I want to go. I'm lazy that way

That's correct. You won't travel directly to that person, but will spawn at the wayshrine closest to their location. This only works with guildmates or friends that are online, and logged onto a toon in the same faction as you.
