Removing Former Emperor Buffs OR Creating Former Players?

The former emperor buffs were far too powerful for something that requires more politics and free time than actual skill. I'm glad to see them gone. RIP we hardly knew ye.

Further, I have seen lots of former emps on forums saying the buffs are actually insignificant. So what's all the uproar about? Because you invested the time into something? Well the game (especially dynamic ones like MMOs) need to change to move in positive direction (hopefully).

Of course they would say that. Either way I'm not impressed by the achievement. If you got emperor because you killed the most people maybe, but the way it's measured has nothing do with skill. In fact given enough time you could theoretically become emperor by just being in the right place at the right time and do nothing else. How many times have I ran up to a keep and gotten the tick when I did absolutely nothing to contribute to the battle? How often have I not gotten the tick because I chased the enemies too far from the keep. The scoring system is terribad and really needs to be fixed.

I am going to be live streaming a discussion right now at twitch.tv/bladeboques while still enjoying the game I love so much ESO PVP on the PS4 this round. The community is in agreement that we want it to continue and strive for greatness and become better. ZOS has proven many times that they listen to the players, maybe we can creatively come up with a compromise together today.

If you buy a car that has 100 BHP,
and while you are driving it, the factory removes 2 horses, (2% emperor buffs)
you be unhappy, because you PAID for the full 100.

Are you going to trust this company enough to buy 500 BHp car,
when they might remove 400 BHP (the whole championsystem) if they feel like it?

The precedent is set if these small buffs are removed.

Something that seems to be overlooked,
all PvP bufs are being removed from PvE to avoid farming,
that is not what this discussion is about.

This is about PvP accomplishments being taken out of PvP environment,
and has nothing to do with PvE players farming emperor bufs.

Mr. Boques, I just came from your live stream on twitch which i took the time to step into for a bit. You keep mentioning about the 2% and 5% former buffs and that their removal breaks trust with ZOS. Maybe you misunderstood, but ZOS is removing the former emperor buffs to combat emperor farming and the resulting perversion of what the original achievement and title of emperor were meant to be.

No one cares about the 2% and 5% buffs (even lots of former emperors don't care). This is being done in an effort to hopefully stop emperor farming.

    HOLY *** GET OVER IT.

seriously if its such a "little buff that doesnt matter" like some of the more defensive people are acting like it is, THEN WHY DOES IT MATTER SO MUCH TO KEEP IT?

Because its a skill line, and though it is very minor it helps for those min/maxers.

Not only that but there is literally no point in getting rid of former emperor passive, no one asked for it and no one ever complained former emperors have to many benefits.

    1. No one complained, This is like when they changed the ult generation system.
    2. cant the same be said for you? if its soo small WHY NOT KEEP IT its a goal to strive for.

    1. this topic is a complaint, and people have been complaining about the emp farming that the former buffs have been creating since a year ago.
    2. im pretty sure we have established that it is not small, and especially when everyone in your group has the buff has a noticeable effect on gameplay, we have PLENTY of people go "oh ya that one passive i felt instantly" and such, but then turn around to defend them having that passive by doing a double standard with "its only such and such %". Some are even arguing that the champion points are worse therefore the femp passives are not as important... blantently ignoring that that arguement doesnt work because femp passives + champion points will always = more than champion points alone...

    2. ended up a wall of text huh? well TLDR, its not small and they are acting like it is to try and get away with it. arguement utterly fails as the issue was never the passives being balanced but the enviroment used to gain them being a determent to PvP

How about yes to removing them cause that will stop the emperor farming and emperor flipping. Former emperor buffs and pvp buffs in pve are 2 reasons in my opinion why pvp is a steaming mess right now cause it causes pve guilds to come in and gate camp and emp flip ruining the pvp exp for others who want to have a fun pvp exp.

if little buffs don't matter to all of you peacekeepers, we should just make cyro CP less and see how things go IMO.

they are not making hard decisions, this is the easy way to say "we are working", they dont know how to make a competitive game on pvp and this is what they can do now, but this wont help the lag or the emp farming, the game have many alternatives to make it work withou punish players and guilds that really worked to get emp and get this variable to make your character better. And as valnas said, in the future the former emp buff would be less important that is now, CP is that makes your char better, not former emps buffs... and as we see we have many ppl farming cp exploiting the game in many ways and they dont change anything to fix that... but wait! taking pvp/former emp buffs is the reason why they are doing that!

I guess one issue is that you can become Emperor at any point during a campaign, so campaign length makes no difference.

Maybe if you could only become Emp at the very end of a campaign, based on the winning faction and #1 on leaderboard? Then get rid of the short campaigns, and being an Emp becomes a rare and hard-fought title.

I honestly believe that to come to a compromise for both former emperor farming and the former emperors that worked hard for the title is to make it so that the passives only apply in PvP. This'll allow the ones who didn't deserve it to not have it in PvE while letting people who worked for it being able to use it in PvP. The incentive of going for emperor will still be there while PvEers who just want to farm it for their times in Trials and such will stop farming for they have no reason to now.

Another thing is they should have never allowed you to bow out from the top of the leader board and should not have let you change campaigns until the end of a campaign. This alone was a HUGE contributor to emp farming. They have made mistakes for sure and im sure they would admit to this but it is what it is. They cant leave a bad system in place just because thats what they thought was a good idea to begin with.

"it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days." - Matt Firor

He certainly could have phrased the post better, but I have to agree with him. Why would I bother playing a game where my progression could at anytime be wiped because someone else cried about it? I might as well just go back to playing Skyrim.

We'll be right back at this table in a year, only it'll be all of the people playing right now (if they bother sticking around that long) bitching and moaning that all the hard work they put into progressing their characters with be pointless when they arbitrarily decide that CPs need to be removed.

Fix the issue, not the symptoms.

Oh for crying the *** out loud not another one of these.

Emperor is and remains one of the most heavily abused mechanics in pvp right now. It's destroyed guilds, it's destroyed factions, and it's destroyed servers. My only complaint is this wasn't nipped in the bud sooner. Yes it sucks that people that legitimately gained emp and former emp status through actual combat are going to lose something they feel they earned, but this number is far outshadowed by the amount of scummy, inconsiderate, ***, manipulative players who exploited and scammed their way to the top and hosed their entire faction for it. If people are going to pitch a rampaging hissy fit over 1-2% extra regen and damage, well don't let the door hit you on the way out. The buffs did nothing but breed entitlement in undeserving players and hampered proper PVP combat. I'd go so far to say as most of 'pvp combat' that occurred since launch hasn't been so, more like business transactions with backroom negotiations with enemy factions. Players should want to support their faction to win, not despise it because of entire guilds that like to screw over everyone else so they get themselves a little bonus for their cheeseball trials.

I personally don't care if they remove them or not, but I wouldn't expect them to change their decision given that there has been a very small amount of different emperors since the game launched. It is basically the unhappiness of less than half of 1% of the population versus potentially making the game better for everyone else.

Mr. Boques, I just came from your live stream on twitch which i took the time to step into for a bit.

Right now, with the state that PvP is in, Emperor farming/trading is the last thing we should be worrying about. You can't get into one fight without ping skyrocketing to 1000+.

You can't speak for everyone when you say no one cares for former emperor passives, everyone I know that is a former emp really enjoys the passives and doesnt want to lose them, because they earned them. Sure there are a lot of people who trade emperor, but that is not the players fault. ZoS can put a lot of restrictions onto it.

To pair my suggestion with another persons suggestion (can't remember their name, but credit to them). Make a campaign that has Emperors and only that campaign (this could be the 'main' campaign). While players are in this campaign former emperor buffs would be active. Make other campaigns not have emperor with other special rules to make PvP fresh and different between the campaigns. If there was only one campaign that awarded emperor then everyone who wanted to farm emperor would have to go to that and there would be a lot of competition for it (all 3 factions would be trying to cap it at all times of the day).

Brian Wheeler did state in his forum thread and on ESO Live that part of the big changes coming was how the server tracks aoe abilities in a well theorized attempt to hopefully improve on Cyrodiil's performance. He further stated (as he has for a long time now) that the engineers are continuously looking into what can help with the lag. This change is being looked at alongside all the other changes, including the former emperor buffs. So it's not the last thing ZOS needs to worry about, everything should be worried about.

I didn't intend to make it seem that everyone doesn't care about their former emp buffs. I was alluding to many former emps coming out on the forums to say the buffs are insignificant and further, some saying they are happy to see the buffs go.

Your campaign idea has merit, but it seems like it would make things a little wonky with the real possibility of segregating the general ESO PvP population causing issues. Whereas removing the former emp buffs is a big blow to the attraction of farming emperor and should allow more "real" emperors to rise to the top.

Your post was laid out and structured with real thought. You have the respect of my biceps.

If former emp buffs were insignificant, people wouldn't be farming them.

The fact that people ARE farming them is the reason they need to go.

Yes, it sucks that legitimate players will lose them too.. But if it helps the health of PvP, then its for the greater good.

Think about it. If former buffs stay, they will become increasingly trivialised as more people obtain them illegitimately. Those buffs you played 18 hours a day for a week to get? Yeah, some guy just got them in 2 hours by repairing walls and capping empty keeps on a dead campaign.

Goal should be to become Emperor and help your faction not become former emperor to be "better" than majority of community! Those useless former emperor farmers are ruining game for everyone, you spend your time helping someone to become emperor and then that someone leaves the because he got what he wanted.

Emperor buffs are good enough reward for all the hard work and you shouldn't be rewarded for loosing it!
