Console text chat discussion

Ok so I haven't played the game in quite awhile. I have yet to come across any voicechat etc... Is this confined to console only? Or are those of us on PC able to hear it? Not that I'm complaining, I just want to get an idea of how bad it truly is so I can give my opinion properly.

Yes, it's a console thing. The poor sods have only voice chat to communicate, no text. PC players are on a separate server and have only text communication, no voice. Voice chat on PC requires a separate program, like TeamSpeak.

Uummm...you opened a thread named; "Console Text Chat Discussion"...that didn't give you a LITTLE clue that it might have to do with things on the console version?

You dont need a keyboard for text chat, DCUO doesnt require a keyboard,neither does warframe, does war thunder have text chat? Cant remeber but i tjink it does, again no keyboard required. And why should we pay full price for a game with less features than a version thats over a year old? There is no proper reason for them not adding it, they're just being lazy skeeving horkers.

I'd like a text chat box on PS4, I don't see the point of having keyboard support if we cannot take advantage of it, but only if I can hide it at will due to the inevitable barrage of gold spamming we will get.

chat / keyboards / text would help guilds and trading so much easier please consider it

While waiting for Server Maintain, I try Never Winternight, and OMG it has a text chat! Its all the same on PC, every aspects!

Well maybe one day a dev will stop by and say yes or no..

I'm already logging on less and less, it'a just less fun when no one really responds to chatting attempts, that's when voice chat even works, which it hasn't been lately on the PS4 for me at least..

You can use any keyboard/mouse on PS4 i believe Xbox One has the same compatibility.
There are also the keyboard on Playstation app and Xbox has Glass, there are controllers accessories to put a keyboard plugged in your controller...
A OPTIONAL text chat box that YOU CAN CHOOSE to use or not, turn ON/OFF, ENABLE/DISABLE, HIDE/UNHIDE will not hurt anyone.
But only voice is a problem, that way we have no choice.

There are a lot of online games on consoles with Text/Voice and you can choose what you want to use. Why this, a MMO don't have that option?

Look at other MMOs/multiplayer games on PS4/XBONE, all give you the option.
Less the FF14 that has only text, but we have voice chat party on PS4/XBONE, so the only text is not a problem and you can just CLOSE/HIDE the chat window and use the bult-in system voice chat....

-There are deaf people
-There are people with different languages that can read and write in english but are blocked/ashamed to talk
-There are speechless people
-Voice chat has no log
-Voice chat has no control, you can only join or leave (you can't even mute someone, you have to leave the chat or block the person account)
-Voice chat while making quests, talking to NPCs will constantly struggling you to hear what NPCs are saying if you are in a group and people are talkning non-stop, you have to leave the voice and will not know what they are saying to you because theres no voice log....

It is more problematic to have only voice in a console MMO than having only text, because the system (PS4/XBONE) has a built-in voice chat, but theres no way to have a easy access to the system text message while playing.

Think text chat is a must, then I can turn voice chat off, there are to many idiots out there that don't know how to control their mics. Voice chat is a great option especially for group dungeons etc but there definatly needs to be an option of text chat. If it's able to be turned off then anyone that doesn't want it has that option just like I have to do so often with voice chat.

i would for once like to see them respond to us and tell us if they are working on it or thinking about it at least i think they should release a text chat and the combat log together and asap it would make sense. ZOS its time for a new start dont treat your players like you did pc players. change and actually answer our questions when its this many people asking like just tell me it is or isnt coming so that i know if i should keep investing my time and money into this game i love this game but without text chat and a combat log i dont know how long i will play this.

I find it annoying without a chat box. some people have hearing disabilities and having to constantly sending mail takes longer than just having a pm or group text chat would make things so much better. Maybe you can have a text chat option when you start a group? That way text chat would not interfere with people not in your group. As for trading outside your group, why not have an option for it when you walk up to someone. In the general area people could still use the generic want to trade text to advertise they want to and if you are interested just go up and click on them to text chat. It would be up to that player if they want to accept the communication to text chat. The results are everyone is happy. no text chat for everyone to see, no trolling, but available for those hearing disabled or those that want the option. I have played Defiance recently and I understand the complaints about text chat in an area or open world but they have options to just do group or private. The color of the text is even different colors depending on which kind of text chat you are in. Green for group and purple for private. They even have a text chat just for trading.

Well i will never be getting the console version. No text chat, you gotta be kidding. Most console players talk anyways, but it should still be an option. At least for zone chat, Group finder doesn't work so how do you guys find dungeon group?

I haven't.
I have tried many times, and have not gotten a group together even once.
I pretty much have given up on group dungeons until ZOS either fixes the matchmaking, or puts the textbox back into the game.

Surprised there's still no word, though, it's interesting those trolling the thread seem to have given up.

Meanwhile the voicechat noise seems to almost be getting worse as more and more people have just been actively trying to be disruptive. Came across someone lastnight generating immense amounts of feedback and laughing like an idiot. It's kind of a shame the share function on PS4 doesn't record the chat audio...

I agree about people being annoying on purpose. I ran into a group, where one member was blaring music and the others dancing. It looked like they were having fun, but in area chat, the blaring music was annoying. What I have done 5 times now is click on the player and send him/her a message through live that they could be reporting for spamming the area chat channel. All 5 times they stopped blaring the music.

But even doing that, I still think Text Chat would/should be an "Option". If people don't want it, they don't have to use it, but for those that do it would be there. I also understand the challenges, especially for people with smaller sets. My friend has a 42" HDTV, but sits about 10' away, I think a chat box would be really hard to read, but if they would still offer it he could choose to use it or make it larger for him to read. It is about options.

I guess the question I have for ZOS is this. Would it hurt to offer your customers the option to have it? Letting people that like it they enable it through the menu, those that don't want it they leave it off.
