Content Difficulty - Newbie Questions

Ok, so I've been playing since launch.
PvP, multiple VR toons etc...
Due to RP real life etc...just now getting to Veteran COA, probably gonna crack 3rd boss tonight. My group are avoiding looking up fight mechanics to have the fun of learning the fights the hard way.
Anyways I'm trying to figure out what content is harder.
Figure it's something like this:
Everything else < Vet COA < DSA < Vet DSA < SO < Vet SO
Also what are trials?
I know they exist but I dunno where or what they are.
am I close on the difficulty scale?

✭Trials are Aetherian Archive (AA), Sanctum Ophidia (SO), and Hel-Ra CItadel (HRC). Sanctum Ophidia Hardmode is probably one of the toughest challenges.0 -

Other content < Vet COA < DSA < Vet DSA < trials < hardmode Trials (with SO being the harder end of trials)
