A day after you get text chat you will be in here complaining people are try ping stupid questions or troll comments or just dumb arguments that play out in every text chat.

Why would they? Have you seen many threads here complaining of such in PC text chat?

Strange, I haven't seen goldsellers in chat in well over a year. I wonder what game you're talking about, because it certainly isn't this one.

Unless we are talking about what text chat would've been like if this game launched on consoles in April 2014, of course. <.<

Perhaps if you could find me ANY post complaining about this on the PC since ever, then maybe this argument might hold water. But we both know you can't, so it doesn't.

IOW, youre basically saying ' You want to play a mmo. I want to play a single player game (every Elder Scrolls before ESO) with the possibility to coop with 2-4 friends.' (Basically exactly what many of those who were hoping for 'Skyrim Online' when the PC version was release, and were rather disappointed).
I can agree that this where where the whole argument comes from. I really think this is a main difference between the 2 sides, and if they had just advertised the console version as a single player game with coop possibilities, rather than a mmo, than theres a good chance that none of this would be much of an issue..

Heh, either that or he fully expects for the next TES game to feature loudly blasted rap music in every major city while random NPCs make sex noises and call strangers racial obscenities.

Because if not, Voice Chat isn't exactly doing anything more to make this an "Elder Scrolls" experience than a textbox that you can minimize would.

I've followed this thread for a while now and I think I'm done. The fact that ZoS doesn't even respond to their customers in their own forums tells me this whole thing is a waste time so I'm just going to enjoy the game in a single-player type of way. To be honest, that's how I've been playing since I bought it so why stop now?

I really do hope they add text chat eventually, but in the meantime I'll just pretend i'm playing a suped-up version of Skyrim.

The game is great, I love the story, but this is simply not the MMO I was looking for and it's sure as hell not the MMO that was advertised to me. My only regret, again, is that I bought the digital version so I can't even trade it in when I'm done. Oh well, lesson learned...

I'm not basing these statements solely on my week-long console experience, either. I've spent days reading these forums and noticed complaints on PC from last year have also gone unanswered. That tells me they are only interested in the money they make off their customers, not the customers themselves. Trash them all you want, but Blizzard has a very good reputation of listening to their customers and responding to them regardless if they like the answer or not.

In all honesty, if this is the kind of company ZoS is going to be, then they will never receive another dime from me. Not to take away from the great game they made, but their customer service needs a tremendous amount of work; and that is something I can say for a fact, since I teach customer service techniques to my fellow members in the military.

Best of luck to all of you, and I mean that for those on both sides of the argument. I think there is a middle ground that only ZoS can put into place, but I'm not holding my breath for them any longer.

TBH I don't play this game on PC, only console. My current PC games are WoW (generally toxic community; lots of gold spammers) and LotRO (generally awesome community; little gold spamming). I realize that ZOS has taken major and wide-ranging steps to minimize botting and gold sellers in the game on PC in the year since release. I'm only trying to illustrate a point that the same negative issues that occur in VOIP can also occur in text. Some people tend to gloss over that. I believe text is needed on the console, but it's not a panacea.

No, that's not what I'm saying. You folks sure do like to pretend that there is some hidden meaning behind my statements that you need to translate into text-cult speak. I'm saying, very plainly, that some people are looking for a standard PC experience on console. I'm saying that I would like an ESO experience in a massively multiplayer online game setting that is designed for consoles specifically. What I am not saying is the twisted babble in your quote.

But problems that come up in text are a LOT easier to deal with than those in voice. Someone who writes obscenities has their name directly attached to it. In a large group, tracking down someone shouting obscenities in voice chat can be a time-consuming effort. Additionally, it is extremely easy, at least on the PS4, to record evidence of a text violation of the ToS. Literally just a few presses of the Share button on the PS4 controller will take a screenshot that can be sent to a GM. To record evidence of a vocal infraction, you would have to be recording video prior and during the infraction, plus it would take much more time to edit / upload, etc.

In short, IMHO many of those who are so vigorously against text chat being an option on the consoles are holding that position because they are the chronic abusers in the voice chat and don't want for people to have an easy option to avoid their sick behavior.

Text chat really needs to be in the console version. I am a player of WoW, and not only do I enjoy leveling characters, but also RPing some of them. Text chat in WoW allows me to RP characters that are not human (therefore not sounding like one) an also not men. Though my main in elder scrolls online is a dark elf female. It would be ridiculous to RP her with my male voice, and it would sound dumb. It takes away some of the immersion when the woman character your RPing with has the voice of a dude. I am far more comfortable RPing text wise. If I am never given the text chat option in the future I may just create a male toon for RPing purposes and just use my main for leveling. Hopefully that won't be the case.

Well text box would be better then the voice since I cant mute it unless I'm in party mode. I have to leave voice chat cause if the TV or radio is on it just feed the sound into the voice chat and I don't understand why I cant mute it and still listen so if I hear something I want to know I can just unmute and reply. That on the Xbox One

No, not looking for a standard PC experience. Many are looking for a standard mmo experience. And a standard mmo is a standard mmo. At least of this type mmo. Makes no difference what platform it is on. It contains certain elements and/or features.
The console version is set up in a way that standard mmo practices such as recruiting for guilds, selling things to zone, calling for help when needed etc can not be done. At all.
Im not saying it can be done, but just not in the 'standard PC' way. Im saying it cant be done at all. It just does not exist in game.
So this is not a mmo just specially designed for consoles (otherwise we would be able to do these things, but perhaps in a different way). This is much closer to a single player game with coop capabilities. Unfortunately, this was not how the game was marketed and I think thats whats causing a problem..

Then how did my guild get it's members if it's impossible to recruit? I was just trading last night. These things can be done in game, just differently. Different isn't a bad thing. In fact, I would submit that games that have differences should be celebrated.

The "This game doesn't play like <insert your favorite MMO>, therefore it's not an MMO" mentality is sad. Let the genre advance. Change isn't always easy, I understand, but I'm sure you will all find solice in each other's arms as the teardrops fall in the church of the text-cult.

I actually do agree w/ you, but I've never personally seen text chat as some form of remedy for the trash that people spew in Area Chat. That's just part of the territory in most multiplayer games, unfortunately.

The main reasons that I would like to see voice chat implemented are:

    1) Easier use of designed in-game systems, such as Guild recruitment, non-guild trade goods, procurement of groups for non-dungeon content, Cyrodiil zone-wide strategies or groups, etc. VOIP is a great tool, but so is text, and they both excel in different fields. Trying to use VOIP for all of it, especially systems that were designed 100% to be dependent upon text chat that no longer exists is simply trying to force the round peg into the square hole.

    2) Accessibility for many people who are either reluctant or entirely unable to use VOIP. This includes the somehow disabled, the socially anxious, it doesn't really matter what the reason is, some people are simply averse to the use of VOIP or couldn't utilize it even if they wanted to. Of course, the same goes for text chat as well, but having more avenues to access the game on every medium can only be a good thing for player comfort and retention, imo.

There are a few other minor reasons, but those are my two biggest gripes w/ the lack of included voice chat, which I've expressed since @ZOS_JasonLeavey first told us that text chat would be limited basically to the naming of your guild that you now have to go outside of the game and post on the forums to recruit for.

I agree with you in that someone saying that it being impossible to group or trade was dramatic. I don't agree that simply being different for the sake of being different than other games is a cause for celebration. Most attempts to break tried and true mold for real purpose fail miserably and are not much talked about as a result. Excluding text chat is not an attempt to break mold in this case regardless of the merits of successfully breaking said mold, it is just a lazy way to avoid policing the game.

    Agreed.

Just ignore the trolls who like him/her/it.

He actually earlier said he would be more bothered by 10 books open to an offensive page than having 10 people people scream obscenities in his ear.

Just skim past the waste of time posts from someone like that.

Ive yet to hear how they can be done is the problem. Though I will admit I had a rather interesting and amusing console experience the other day because of the lack of text chat and someone deciding to do things a 'different' way.
Was wandering around collecting mats somewhere in the world when I spotted a player jumping in place on a large rock and using his fire staff? I ignored him for a few minutes but he continued, then finally noticing nothing/no one around him, curiosity got the best of me and I started to head his way.
He saw me and and started running towards me. Then he suddenly took off in a different direction away. I stopped, puzzled and ready to head back to mat collecting then he stopped and looked at me and at some point I thought he wanted me to follow him.
As I did so, I was rather amused, thinking 'What is it girl? Did Timmy fall down the well?' We reached the destination and turns out it was a WB he wanted help with. We took down the boss and parted ways.
As I headed back to my mat collecting I started to think that jumping , running to and fro, and making noise to attract attention/get help may have been the only way for Lassie, but surely we could come up with something better?
Dont really know if its a 'celebrate the difference' moment, though he did get it done in a different way.. And honestly I can not remember any WB pc interaction I had that surprised, puzzled then amused me so.
Texting 'Need help (insert name) WB' to zone just seems a bit mundane now..easier of course, but still mundane..

Guild Recruitment: Run some dungeons, be social, it's not hard to find people in game. I guess if you turn voip off, it's harder. People are chatting everywhere... or if you read this thread & believe the B.S., that's on you.

Trading: Hold down the "Option" button when targeting the player you want to trade with. See above for social status.

If you're waiting for someone to tell you how to play the game, good luck. Man, would I hate to be stranded on an island with you. "How do I start a fire without matches? Great, we're dead. The world will end without matches!"

Is that actually how you guys get in guilds by someone spamming to try and get you to join? I thought you guys would come to forums go down to guild recruitment. I know in any MMO I have played it has always been rude and normally not accepted in MMO's I have played. To this day if you don't get a conversation going or at least ask me if I would like to group or join a guild I just ignore those others.

Then how did my guild get it's members if it's impossible to recruit?

Dont know, you tell me? Is there a certain place they go to make their recruiting speeches? I am in a guild now on 1 of the console servers, only because the recruiter spammed me with an invite while I was in the bank. Otherwise I would not be, but I know many people dont like that so its not often done.

I was just trading last night.

How? This is something I would like to know for my other console server where no one has spammed me into a guild yet..and Ive spent time hanging around banks there but no luck.

These things can be done in game, just differently. Different isn't a bad thing. In fact, I would submit that games that have differences should be celebrated.

No, not waiting for someone to tell me how to play the game, I know how to play the game I been here from pc beta and the early access. Im just waiting for someone who said these things CAN be done in game to tell me how, thats all..
I asked where to go to hear various guild recruiters pitching their guilds, you tell me run dungeons..Somehow I suspect people there are probably too busy killing things and trying to stay alive to want to have a guild information discussion..
I asked how to sell items to people in zone, you tell me to go up to random players hit options, then trade?? If this is what you were doing last night and it worked for you (still no idea how?) then all I can say is more power to you..
Personally I think these methods you describe as a 'standard' console way are really a bit too different for me (not to mention imo both ineffective and ridiculous) and that guy who came up with the "continuous hopping on a rock while firing a staff' method was probably much more effective to get what he needed then the ways you suggest.
But thats just my own thoughts on it, and if this really is the best console has to offer then I guess Im heading back to PC soon enough..

Man, would I hate to be stranded on an island with you. "How do I start a fire without matches? Great, we're dead. The world will end without matches!"

Oh yeah, I can picture that.. I would ask how to start the fire without matches, then you will just roll your eyes at my inability to forget the tried and true methods of doing such things and tell me 'of course there are other ways to do it'.
Then you will suggest I gather brush, hop up and down in front of it while chanting lyrics to 'Light my Fire' and if I do it long enough and Im patient enough, a bolt of lightning may come down, striking the brush and setting it ablaze.
Well, of course there IS always the chance that this may actually work, but I will tell you that my inner cynic will still say that its just not possible ;)

I'm sure the same ones that spam invites are the same ones that would spam chat to build a 500 member automaton guild in order to Zerg Cyro.

    :D lol'd a little.

But, I would still say that's a better method than pessimistic praying & weeping, hoping for some magical delivery of matches when many people around you are using flint just fine.

"The "This game doesn't play like <insert your favorite MMO>, therefore it's not an MMO" mentality is sad. Let the genre advance. "

wtf! lol leaving out a feature that makes it easy to communicate with others isn't "advancing". Are you freaking kidding me??
You have no idea of what you're talking about. You're obviously disagreeing just to annoy people.

Which is exactly why I stopped even replying to him, and the other two, that are obviously only doing it to be..."difficult".

I agree. The posting history of some of the worst of them is quite revealing in that regard.

I spent 60$ for PC version, and I spent 99$ for console. Im soooooo disappointed with the lacking social on console. Running aroud doing quests with silence like single play. Take an hour to find dungeon, on PC just 5' with chatbox help. Why should I waste too much money with a single play game???Is it too much for a simple chatbox? Answer me ZoS!!!! (Im so fukig angryyyy...)
