No since people starting using it more and once I figured something out, it has stop knocking me back, its simple enough to avoid trhe knockback effect.

the knockback itself isnt the issue it's the effort and strain on the server needing to proccess more changes, the meteors currently direct damage, knockback, dot AND depending on the morph, debuff/grant ulti.
now 4 things is no big deal but when you start having many people at once slamming them out. thats alot of things going on at once (not including the change in hp caused) and with many going off alot it can slowly hammer the server, most AOE abilities are the same so if you remove alot of the pointless or not needed actions maybe we can see just alittle more server stability

I would guess the problem is not Meteor itself but simply that is a good skill and gets cast a lot. If they nerf it, some other skill will become the "go to" skill in PvP and that will become the new skill that gets blamed for lag. I suppose they can just nerf every skill until we are down to nothing but light and heavy attacks. Then staff attacks will probably get blamed because they are the most colorful and noticeable.
