Fishing Bait? 2.0.11

OK so after a long, long, wait to pick back up fishing I have one question about correct bait.

I thought that if you used the correct bait for the type of water you were at you always caught a fish of some kind other than used bait,

Is this correct or does it just raise the percentage?

I'm asking because I get the types of fish you are suppose to get where I'm at, but I've started getting a lot of used bait as well.

If you're using the correct type of bait, you'll never get used bait. You'll always get a fish, or caught bait (like shad or roe), or a wet gunny sack.

Here's a good fishing guide that should help you:

I don't know. caught a river betty off of insect parts, then switched to worms after getting used bait and got longfin, must have got an influx of salt water I guess.

    edit: fixed post

Tonight in a spot in Stormhaven close to Bangkorai, I found two fishing holes next to each other. The area looked like a river, but one of them was lake and the other sea. The one farther inland was sea. It's hard to tell sometimes. Though I remember something about zones missing a type of water will have those fish show up in the other types of water.

There are actually some holes that are bugged. I bug reported them dunno 3 months or so ago when I was really working hard on fishing.

You fish a spot and get a longfin. ok.. you know what bait... WRONG. You still sometimes get used bait even though the node is very clearly an ocean spot and gives ocean fish. It can be any type of fishing hole too. You will get used bait no matter which bait you use. it will be like that till you clear it. later if a hole comes back in the exact same spot, it can be 100% normal, no bug.

Not specific to zones where spawns share hole types (ocean in rivers for ex.).

    makes me crazy.

BTW, you can sometimes find legit 4th type holes in zones where spawns are shared (ocean node where ocean nodes aren't supposed to spawn and are shared in other nodes).

Also, as most master fishers know. There are a few zones where a hole type is supposed to be legit, where there are only 1 or 2 spots that exist TOTAL... and they aren't always up and share a rotation with other holes.

You will basically never 'catch' used bait if you're using the right bait.

It was a river location to start caught 2 river betty in a row then used bait. After about a half a dozen I changed to worms and caught ocean fish until it was dry.

It was probably just luck to catch two river fish off of river bait (insect parts). Location was in stone falls south of Ebonheart at the docks between Ebonheart and Mephala's Nest.

Yeh I've noticed (and been fishing off and on for awhile) that if you are using the wrong bait you'll still catch a fish or two before you get the Used bait and have to change.

Few spots are buggy like that. Although yes, they do exist, and any I have found are always where it's a close call as to what water type it is (where 2 water types meet). If it bothers you that much.. move to the next hole and all will be well.

[EDIT] To be honest.. it's also been a long time since I ran into one of those holes. Was fishing last night and we would call out the first white fish and it always jived with what should be in the hole.

It doesn't bother me, it was late and I was convinced they had added some kind of unlisted patch stuff. I was afraid with the new changes they had put in a daily catch limit or some such, so I wanted to ask and make sure. Glad it was something else ;)

Ahahaa. Actually while fishing last night I shared my thoughts as well. I was concerned they would have changed something to.. to make it more difficult.. or up the amount of heavy sacks (while also making them worse) but nope.. they didn't do that. We still have our good ol' fishing :)

Now I wonder if the Perfect Roe I got was kind of like the first Kuta I got, where it seems to have a pretty high chance of getting your first one,,, then nothing. I got one on the very first fish I filleted.

    That's lucky!

I got one out of 59 fish yesterday (and the Rivenspire Angler achievement!).

Yes, the chance with the wrong bait is 50%. So in theory, you could fish through an entire spot with the wrong bait and never get used bait, but it's unlikely.

The one spot where I got different kinds of white fish out of a hole was in Khenarthi's Roost.

My friend logged on and had 5 fish in her inventory.. She got 3 roe lol.

So she says in guild chat.."well that isn't so bad" and everyone explodes. ha ha. She hasn't seen another one in 150 fish though.

I got 1 perfect roe last night from 200 fish. Not a large enough sample size to get a true feel for the chance percentage, I know. Not very promising, though.
