If you look at Zenimax's videos promoting PvP you'll notice that none of them depict players stacked on top of each other spamming AOE abilities, so I don't buy into the claims that playing that way represents "playing the game how it was designed." In my opinion that's an excuse bads use to justify their bad behavior.

To answer your question: I think Zenimax is at fault for releasing a game in which zergballing is the most efficient form of group play when the game can't actually handle that style of play AND the players are at fault for continuing to zergball when they know the game can't handle it. In other words they're both at fault.

Since it's unlikely that Zenimax can actually do anything to fix the lag problem (otherwise they would have done so by now), this game is going to continue to lose PvP players because the zergballers aren't willing to accept their role in the problem & change the way they play.

They also depict players playing the game however they want.....they don't show the players who chose a less than optimal build getting wrecked by the optimal builds either. Just because they don't show it doesn't mean it doesn't happen or that they didn't expect it to happen.

    Found a zergbaler. ;)

And a impulse spamming, lagspoitting monkey that chants....POTATO....POTATO....POTATO....to ensure lagged out servers for those awesomesauce EP victories. B)

    @Rylana, post is spot-on.

But I don't think such well constructed summaries help increase retention of players. I think it accelerates them leaving actually. ZOS knows these things, and restating them again for us that have been around a while just feeds the monster of resentment.

What we need is more posts on the positive aspects of PvP, how to have fun with what we have right now and avoid yet another topic on lag, exploiting, nerfing etc... After the first 4 weeks of non-stop coverage on a topic, ZOS gets the message and the rest just continues to sour things. Doesn't mean every post has to be blowing sunshine either. So please don't take my thoughts to the extreme as that is not the intent here.

BTW, Rylana, I'm not targeting you directly on this because most of your posts are very constructive. Just thought it made sense to mention this and hopefully get away from the topic of 100% blame on players for lag.

The game does get a lot of deserved negative publicity, yes. I know there are good points, especially in the potential PvP has to be amazing.

But until some of the glaring issues are addressed, I cant help but feel very negative, thus I post the way I do. For me, this topic was more of a last ditch plea to finally fix things before even i give up. Im very close.

Believe me when I tell you id give this game the praises of a lifetime if they just fixed the crashing/lag problems. Just that alone.

Out of the 10 or so people that joined the game with me (several of which only joined because they came with me and a couple of the others), only two of us still play regularly, six or so will never return at all.

So yeah, i see what youre saying, but all the positivity in the world wont fix our game. Even worse it might give people the wrong idea and set them up for disappointment when the skeletons in the closet come out.

It's both the players' fault and the coders' fault.

Example of fault due to player: Players don't have to group up and spam AOE.

Example of fault due to coding: Players should be allowed to group up and spam AOE.

I just blew my own mind.

I dont often agree with Rylana, however, this was a great post and hits on many of the frustrations felt by all of us... or at least the ones that play this game with any sort of initiative. Some action is needed on the part of Zenimax in the form of stability and advancement for the game that includes more than the false promises, weak implementation, and added developer silence.
Listen to the people that theorycraft and really learn the game and its intricacies not to the more vocal lapdogs within the community, I personally have no hope for this "ambassador" community with all the pre picked candidates. But I still hold out a glimmer of hope for this rapidly failing game, mostly out of boredom rather than any sort of twisted loyalty to the game.

I would like to remind people that asinine means acting stupid.

Stupidity does not mean the same thing as ignorance.

    Also.......since I'm being serious:
It's a game and don't be serious anymore because this game is a mess.

The whole argument of blaming the players for causing the lag is flawed. Obviously if there are no players there is no lag. I dont think you can fix that problem by trying to eliminate zerg balling. Especially with the current combat conditions in cyrodiil. Impossible task I dont think it would be a pvp game anymore.

Blackwater Blade is proof that the game doesn't lag when there are no zergballs.

Think it is more complicated than that. Occasionally I run out of resources in BwB and the only AoE I have unlocked is lightning flood...
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

Whoever is telling you that there was no lag in betas is clearly having a hard time remembering the 30+ second delays which were the absolutely worst ones I've ever seen, including crashes and endless (yes, endless) loading screens.

This was in February beta weekends.

Crashing has nothing to do with the issue
    same with the Loading Screen

I also didn't notice any 30 second delays during Feb Beta test..Nor early final either.

in fact most people will tell ya that they didn't notice lag issues in PvP till 1.2 ..

I play on the US servers though, so no clue if EU was different.

People did notice lag issues before 1.2, but it became a lot worse after 1.2, same with the fps drops. I didn't mind the occasional 1-2 sec lag when it was rare. Now it's every night and for 10-20 sec.

I have to disagree though about the 24 man raids, they were present waaaaay before 1.6. I would know, I played in one during summer 2014 and there were plenty on the other factions as well (EU server, don't know about NA). Those groups brought lag but nowhere near as much as in 1.5/1.6.

It's amazing to notice how my framerate in this game has basically halved over the course of a year.
