Anyone know how to shut the voice chat up?

No, not what you're thinking. Dropping the bar on Player Volume was my first edit, lol.

What I want to know is how to either stop the voice channel from changing, or shut up the annoying repetitive ding.

This has been driving me crazy and giving me a nasty headache for the last few hours. I don't know how to stop it from changing and playing the ding, but I have worked out how to turn the volume of the ding down to zero. Go into options and towards the bottom there is a setting for Interface Volume. Set that to zero and no more dinging. Obviously there'll be no noises for working through the menus and whatnot either while that volume is at zero.

I really hope they fix it soon

If you go to Social > Voice Chat, you can leave a channel.

However, when you enter a new area, it seems that area chat will turn itself back on.

My solution was to send voice chat through the headphones... and then not wear them.

Won't work if you want voice chat for some other things though. :-(

As AdamBourke says, you can leave Area Chat from the Voice Chat menu. The fact that it keeps coming back on must be a bug.
