[POLL] Do You Think Consoles Will Hurt PC Population?

Yes and I do not care. :) I hope ESO is very successful in Xbox One. I stopped playing the PC version since the account copy and will probably never play in the PC again. Sorry for the PC crowd but you have lots of good MMOs to chose from. Xbox One only have Neverwinter and now ESO.

I'm in four trading guilds and the total number of sales tracked by MM has been declining.

I wonder what the number will look like after June 9.

This game is about to go main stream once it hits console. I'm predicting a big next couple of years at least on both sides. The naysayers and "pro gamers" talking *** on the forums will be greatly outnumbered by every shmuck with an xbox or ps4, and I think those shmucks are gonna love it and the all around player base will be huge.

ESO is waaaaaaaaaaay better than Destiny & Neverwinter. Dragon age is good, but I played through it in a couple of weeks. The witcher was bundled with an overdose of sleeping pills. (It works so much better than ambien)

After it is a massive hit on console, I predict a big bump in pc pop as well. (like skyrim)

IMHO ESO is here to stay

Wouldn't that drive up consoles vs PC?
Unless something changes it seems PC interest is at its max or rather was at its max

Console has three - four months and if no removal of VR and lots of endgame without grinding the game will stagnate

pc play forces you behind a desk,. console play allows for relax/chill position on the couch

that said I hope it wont affect the game population negatively

is a option I am missing. going with it anyway

lol...dude, I'm on my pc sitting in my awesome recliner on my 50 " tv...pretty sure pc doesn't force you at a desk. Wireless mouse/keyboard + Hdmi to the tv = love.

simply because ZOS is apperantly so bad at coding they felt the need to separate the console players from the PC players..

easily the most moronic choice in this gaming era i have seen.

It has nothing to do with coding. Using dual analog sticks to move is vastly inferior to mouse and keyboard. The pvp balance would be highly PC favored if they allowed everyone to play together. That's why they separate pc from console in every competitive game out there.

My opinion is that everything will revolve around text chat (or lack there of) with console. Keep in mind this is an MMO and regardless what franchise it is, or how successful all of the other coop console games are w/o text chat, there are going to be alot of people expecting to play ESO as an MMO. And an MMO w/o any standard form of text chat will turn a lot of people away.

I think that is the main reason the servers are separate.

I think a large % of PC players that switch to console will return to PC because of this.

I think a large % of console players will like the game but will switch to PC because of this. (If they have a PC)

In comparison, I think a small % of both platforms will stick with console because of this.

So in summery, I think the lack of text chat on console will actually boost the population of PC in the long run, while console population will steadily and dramatically decline after it's initial launch spike.

Text chat hurts the game in my opinion. The game will feel more ES like without it. Voice chat will be great for dungeons \ guilds and questing with a person you run into while perhaps solo questing. ES games will always be console games to be enjoyed on a large Tv in my opinion while on a bed\ couch. Personally I think pvp players will like PC more but PVE wise for immersion and instant group chat console will rule with an iron fist. No contest PVE wise.

Given that many of the game's problems are ascribed to lag and player congestion, I'd say separation was the intent.

    That's odd.

Then how come I play TESO on a PC while sitting on my couch watching the game on a flat screen tv?

Oh wait, I know. Because my PC is linked to my TV and I have a wireless mouse and keyboard (and an extra long cable for when battery is dead. I have a special table to put ove my lap for my keyboard and mouse and (most important) it even has a cupholder for coffee or even beer. I even have room to put some peanuts on it.

Edit: I voted 'I don't know', because I don't know. Game already looses players so those few console peasants won't be missed with the masses.

My worry is more... I also have a console. I play games on it for a while but move on pretty quick. The same is with many shooters these days on PC. Some of them (battlefield, COD) keep players. But other new games (syndicate, serious sam 3) cannot hold people in the game for long. Only a few most of the times. My guess is that the console people will move on sooner to other games and forget about the teso game quick. Also because there is no monthly fee anymore nobody feels obligated to play.

And when console dies out... will they keep supporting the PC just as good as they have now (ie, abandon it)?

The only hurt it will do is by those that have been playing the past year waiting for the console release, obviously their disappearance (depending of course on how many there are) will make some sort of difference.

On the other hand, if the console release is a long term success, and more money is ploughed into the game, more newer players could be drawn to the PC version so it could end up with a long term benefit for the PC

However, IF Zenimax don't get it right first time on release most console players won't mess around waiting for updates, they will go elsewhere, and if this happens (and I hope it doesn't) the forum complaints across the web could seriously harm the whole of TESO.

    Time will tell.

There are no good MMOs anywhere anymore except for kind of ESO. I play it because I personally like the theme but I honestly wish they added some things in from WoW which SUCKS now like the global auction system for instance, but not change the game entirely. Sadly people think that if one element from WoW is in a new MMO it is exactly like WoW

To be honest, the majority of "PC transfers" I have spoke to.. Bought the transfer, but really just to check it out and maybe play once in awhile when they really just want to lay on the couch. That includes myself actually.. So I don't think so. I imagine most of the PC blayer base is playing on PC because that it their preferred platform (and when you try console you suddenly realize how much of your game is addons haha)

No. It will only "hurt" the population, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Less lag is bonus.

Earlier, Daggerfall seemed more empty. Yet still crashed. Crashed again in Evermore.

Streaming the NBA finals on the second monitor probably contributed, as I usually only get crashes in town when streaming video. Never crashes out of town though.

I'm enjoying ESO on PC, looking at it on 42" HD TV, sitting VERY comfortable on my couch with keyboard & mouse
I don't feel 'forced' :astonished: to play anywhere else
Yeah, many options for couch. Especially when nVidia Android TV comes out along with ESO controller support. Mostly so my wife can play Stick of Truth in the living room.

On the other hand, I hate gaming on the couch. crap posture. Recliners are okay. I prefer my desk. The worst is browsing the Internet on the couch on a tablet or laptop. Desk please.

Absolutely correct. By focusing on the console launch and almost completely ignoring the PC game for the last 6 months has already driven a huge chunk of the PC player base away.

PC players who left because of 'lack of content' will return once new content is released. Not sure why this surprises some people, almost all MMOs are like that at 'end game'. Some players leave when the new content is finished and only return when new stuff is released, that's just how it is. Gone are the days of WoW where people's entire lives revolve around a single game- there are too many other options these days and for some, they have a short attention span anyway.

On any multi-platform MMO, the majority of players are console players, but that doesn't mean the PC version will ever cease to be supported. I've read where some people have the opinion that ESO was 'designed for the consoles', which I laugh at, because if that were true- the PC version would already have the console UI and it wouldn't have taken them an extra year to get the console versions finished.

I also think that with the attention the console versions are having, it will also attract PC players to the game. I know many were turned off because of the poor PC launch and may well have forgotten about it, but now that it's back in the news, may draw more people. I have also seen a VERY ACTIVE starter zone on the AD side, so clearly there are still new PC players coming into the game. Perhaps some of you veterans haven't noticed because they aren't at your level, but being new to the game, I constantly see a lot of people in the lower levels along with new player questions in text chat.

I wonder, is it a common theme for MMO forums to be filled with the "sky is falling" crowd? Because I saw the same thing in the DCUO forums... so many claiming that the 'game is ending' over and over and yet, how many years later, and the game is still going.
