I agree text chat is a must for an MMO even if its a option to turn the box off like most of the UI, endgame, selling items GUILD CHAT, the needs are endless I understand people not wanting it, I myself want to play a lot solo but I still would much appreciate a text box for many reasons

If the plan is to go without chat, please add stuff to quick chat like "Follow me" "Would you like to help me with Dolmen?" Or World bosses, or public dungeon.

    Yep we need text chat.

Numerous threads saying the same, all end up locked after a small proportion of the minority who don't want text chat, bait players and it ends up a slanging match.

When console players get into PvP, zone chat becomes a must.

You need to be able to communicate with your whole faction no matter where they are on the map. Even if only group leaders could use Cyrodiil chat, some form of faction wide chat is in my opinion essential.

I don't play on consoles but I can easily figure out that text chat is a necessity.

But I'm curious as to how it would work : using an on-screen keyboard is a PITA, using an attached keyboard is not really easy (especially on a couch/TV configuration)... how's that supposed to work ? (or how does it work in other games ?)

I say take out the voice chat. I could care less. Just add the text chat. At the very least add city text chat so everyone in the city could see the text. Even more though add guild text chat. I started a trade guild, east empire trading co, right now we have over 100 members but the only way I can communicate with all of them at once is by using the message of the day and that just sucks. This is not cool.

Works fine, press a button your in the chat window. Start using the controller to input text, and it remembers words you've typed before

Hence saying "Fort ash under attack" first time you have to type it all, next time it takes next to no time.

    Works fine in DC Universe

Ah yes, this thread again. The majority of people want it, but the anti text chatters are EXTREMELY vocal, causing mass arguments and insults from both sides, and then eventual thread closure.

Still, I'll say my thoughts again: I simply need text chat to actually be able to enjoy the game properly. USB keyboard supports both XB1 and PS4 natively, so that moots out people saying it'd be too inconvenient to bring up the virtual keyboard.

i heard keyboards or mouses on consoles are not fast or precise as PC

False. Software based qwerty or emote wheels are not as responsive though, especially in populated areas.

I'm with the majority (console players) on the leaving text chat out. And it seems every time a topic like this is started, the anti voice chat ppl get EXTREMELY loud trying to bait the harmless good folks who just want text left on pc..where it belongs..and already is. The Vc haters then end up getting the topic closed by causing the mass arguments/disagreements :/

We console players aren't on the pc gamers door step causing a scene to add vc...not sure why they like to picket on ours :s

Just because something will 'plug into' something, doesn't make it easy to use. The majority of console ppl are used to having just a simple controller (not that big bulky brick 'thing' that has a mini keyboard on it) in their hand and a mic for coms on there head.....and it's worked just fine for many many yrs...and is working just fine now
    I'm offended that ur offended....

It's really not a majority. Get on Xbox and ask new players.
