There has been guild and technical support forums made for consoles, but last I heard that are the only console specific plan they had.

We'll be adding console-specific forums to the Support category next week.

Console related threads are dominating General Discussion at the moment, but this is expected leading up to console launch. Afterward, this matter will start to calm down, and many of the topics currently being brought up in GD will be better suited to the Support section. Platform-specific discussion won't disappear from GD entirely, but then there have been several threads about Windows 10 in here at the moment.

We won't be adding console separation for General Discussion or other sections, as most topics are platform-neutral. Splitting them up adds some organization, but the increased granularity risks redundancy and not reaching sufficient critical mass to really sustain discussion. Last February we reduced the number of forums quite a bit when we restructured, and it's been a bit help.

In situations where someone does have a platform or megaserver specific discussion, making this clear in the title is helpful. Not everyone will do this, but people will notice that this tends to make their threads more successful.

    No.

You're going to have to share your toy with others

A console only forum would be good, admittedly. But if not it's not the end of the world.

They did officially say something along the lines of, "If GD continues to be dominated by console threads, we'll consider creating console-only forums in the next few weeks."

There are platform specific forums in the Support and Guild Recruitment categories. At this time we don't have any plans to split General Discussion by platform, or add general feedback/suggestion forums by platform. We recognize that console discussion has taken over GD at the moment, but in time the amount of platform specific discussion will likely ebb or move to the Support forums. In the meantime, we're moving/consolidating discussions in here.

If this continues to be an issue after launch we're happy to consider new forums, but we don't want to add them during the launch surge and then find they don't have the activity to sustain themselves afterward. We also don't want to inadvertently siphoning support requests out of the Support section.

Launch is always a hectic time, especially for a catch-all forum like General Discussion. But most game-related discussions are the same for all platforms, and this is true for most of the sections here.

I'm just curious, but do you guys have an approximate length of time to define "the launch surge?"

If console discussion continues to dominate GD in a few weeks, even with aggressive moving/consolidating, a structure change may be necessary. We're open to that, but we need to get past the launch bump first to see if there is sufficient long term activity to support this. The next few weeks may be a bit rough in General Discussion, but the rest of the forums aren't seeing the same surge in platform-specific discussion.

Dividing GD by platform would result in a lot of redundancy of topics that are not tied to platform. Alternatively, adding forums for non-support platform discussion confuses the divide between what belongs there and in the support section.

Safe to assume it would take a few weeks of this to continue before they consider new, console-only forums.
