Exactly my point.

I hope they keep a close eye on this thread, and remember to report anyone that lobs a clear personal attack at anyone else. Common debating is fine, but (for example), an entire post about insulting a person's nationality (as someone did to me in a post that has been deleted) is not acceptable.

I to have felt the wrath, and thankfully the ppl who took shots at me edited their own posts, and some a mod deleted for me. I feel better now. I'm not just a piece of meat, I have feelings and opinions that i shouldn't be scared to post here for fear of being persecuted.

Of course it should,Its especially a problem if you are on EU.
Some people may not be able to speak english or may not be able to speak english good,Some may be able to write better then they can speak. ( i am suffering from this problem myself)

And so, here we are...the great, visionary direction to go with only voice and no text chat. How's that working out so far?

It's not.

Let's start with guild recruiting. I'm running a very productive trade guild that's growing daily. We hold the DW guilld trader in EP 12 hours after launch. You know how you invite people to the guild in ESO console?

- You go to the guild roster, add member and either TYPE in their gamertag or you copy and paste it from an EXTERNAL source like a guild recruiting thread and paste into an EXTERNAL app like SmartGlass to just get a gamertag into the text field. A gamertag like 'zxAnOP1OvIOlxz' ...yea, was that a 1 or a L..a o or 0...yea, a nightmare that you multiply by 50 members you are trying to get invited into the guild at launch. You notice how many times I said EXTERNAL...meaning leave the game and go outside of it to do something you can't do in game.

No @gamertag matching or autofillin, all manual. You can't even go up to a player and select 'Invite to Guild'...here is what you have to do...
- You open up Social > VOICE CHAT > Area and then it shows a list of people who are PARTICIPATING in voice area chat, withing 20yds...WHO haven't figured out that they even were in Voice chat mind you...and this is what you do...you select to interact with Area participants and it gives you the option to literally SPAM 'invite to guild' by selecting their name. No warning, no voice response, just spam away. This turns into the most abusive, unfriendly way to interact with random people, cause this is the only EFFICIENT way to get players into your guild! No one talks in area voice chat, don't kid yourself....all you hear is screeches and living rooms of moms yelling at random house members cause Kinect is picking it all up. No one is going to say 'Hey, I'm going to invite you to the guild' because no one is frickin listening to Area chat!

Now...after that painful experience, you have your guild established. You then proceed to manage and communicate with your guild members. Oh, here we go...6 voice channels, 5 member channels of 100 and a officer channel. Now...how do you monitor the guild to make sure there isn't anyone breaking guild rules? Oh sure...as a guild officer, just join all 6 channels....WhaaaANNNNT..wrong answer. You can only join ONE voice channel anywhere in ESO console...ONE! You group with people....well then, you leave your guild channel you were in entirely. You need to discuss a issue with officers and a guild member? You have to form a group with those individuals separately OR PROMOTE the guild member to Officer so he/she can land I the officer channel. Yes folks, ONE voice channel at a time. Oh, and don't get me going on how to run trivia contests or raffles to raise gold for guild traders, that's gonna be awesome when you only have one voice channel..not.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. People aren't using voice on console as much as some people think they would...and without it, you are left with a quick chat wheel. Let me go into this gimmick. It's not a separate chat wheel for common phrases that really have no value, it's SHARED with the 100 emotes already in game. So you have 8 total slots...for emotes and text phrases that pop over your head....eight...again, that's eight. Yea...you wanna know who I see using this? Right...no one..

It's a quiet, solo world out here in console. And before I secured our guild trader, people had no clue how to get their stuff into other players hands. Trading does NOT exist with voice chat. Sorry, doesn't work. The guild traders offer this solo experience a way to interact with other people. But why?

Well, because we don't have a simple feature that's been part of MMOs since the dawn of time. Text chat. A simple way to communicate with anyone, anywhere in the game. Across a zone, within your guild, within your group. A simple 'WTS stack of Jute 200g'...nothing major, nothing complex. Just a keyboard and a text box.

That's it, that's all.

Ign is already making little comments on your side. Wonder what other sites will follow suit or love it like it is? Should have offered options even if voice chat was main option..

Anything that'll get the crappy 'voice chat' removed. Good LORD, I don't need to hear people throwing up, coughing, scolding children, etc on my system!

Yes this needs to be implemented asap. You can attack keyboards to your X1/PS4 or use smart glass. Don't want it, would rather not see the window or instead listen to all the babies crying in the background, horrible quality music, N-Bombs and F-bombs from all the children and imbeciles in the populated areas. Well turn it off. It needs to be an option for those who want it.

Loving the game on console, but this decision was at best ill though out.

Yes and yes. It would be easier to communicate with people. Let there be an option to turn off chat for those that don't want it. I feel a majority wants this feature as it works great on pc.

I hav a blind friend who needs vc only...kinda be discriminatory to him if text is added

USB keyboard. Both PS4 and XB1 accept them natively.
