Well, maybe company policies have changed a lot since the late 90s? The console manufacturers nowadays certainly see their respective networks as continuous sources of revenue, even, or especially after the initial sale of the hardware. Today it's hardly imaginable that Sony would allow for PS traffic to be routed to the Xbox Live network, and vice versa.ZoS cant handle something of that nature. Though games in the late 90s did it pretty well. FF11 did mac/pc/xbox/ps2/ps3 no issues. Sad ZoS cant do the same

Maybe consoles are such a voluminous market, that routing all the traffic of all platforms to a singular regional server just isn't viable. It's not that people complain enough about lag already...
What can I say? You're right? But that's that's hardly the fault of ZOS then, is it? What we're seeing here is the 21st century equivalent of mercantilism, and we as customers can only completely abstain, or else we're automatically supporting the system in place.Let me fix that for you $$$$$$$$$$$$$ thats the only reason we, as gamers (not divided gamers), cant play with each other. Without the feeling of competition of which platform is better, with the never ending war between the two systems, we will never see cross platform games anymore. They are a thing of the past.
The whole Microsoft/Sony proprietary systems aside the PC players would destroy the console players if they were allowed to mingle. That being said when Windows 10 goes live there should be know issue software wise for Xbox and PCs to play together.

XBox figured the could make more money by limiting games to the XBox platform so they let PC games wither away. Time will tell if they change after the release of Windows 10.

Microsoft are more upset that they did not come up with Steam on PC because they want more PC users then Xbox users, their CORE business is PC software (Windows and Office). With Windows 10 they want more PC users and I wonder if the new version of "XBOX" will just be a pre-made PC with Windows 10 and them launching a steam like platform.

Microsoft missed on search engines (Google) and mobile phones (Apple) so not much surprise they would miss anything but they didn't miss on PC games. They just got beat by Steam. Remember Games for Windows Live?
In the end PC/Console is about to get a lot closer and further away as Microsoft continues its move to incorporate the ability to play xbox one games on the go with a Windows 10 machine while making the XboxONE not PC the center of the living room. People are more willing to buy into a console as a media hub than a PC in mainstream as a plug'n'play is all the rage. Why do you think people get roku/fireTV/appleTV and others instead of just hooking up a HDMI cord to a PC or running it through another service? Console is the ultimate plug'n'play device with TV, Media, Gaming, Streaming all in one.
They also said it would never be F2P.Forestd16b14_ESO wrote: »ZoS has stated many many many time even all the way back in 2013 beta that they will not being doing cross platform.
Remember Microsoft did steal borrowed Apple Sauce from Apple's Macintosh in the 80's as the basis for Windows. But to be fair Bill Gates did tell them to copyright their stuff and they didn't so......

Literally none, unless you want Xbox One exclusives. All of the peripherals for Xbox One work for PC and pretty much every major title release is also on PC. That had to be the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time when I heard Microsoft chose to market that way.
People buy Roku because they don't want to mess with multiple functions. Consoles are simpler to use than PCs. There are also space concerns (laptops might not fit on an entertainment center, etc.) and accessibility to the physical functions are also reasons people prefer TV made devices. People also buy devices to conform and just because they are new.
Sadly the only game on the market that allows multiple platforms to play together is Final Fantasy 14. Which I'd hate to say it. if Square can do it with Sony, why can't these guys?
