Sure, players will be established as soon as it is launched on console but new players even on PC are at that same disadvantage anyway. There are non-vet campaigns too, so again, not as big an issue as people are making it out to be.
People making a mountain out of a mole hill.
How is this any different from someone starting this game a year after everyone else? no matter where you go if your joining an MMO late especially a year late you are always going to have this problem of unbalance until you rank your skills and equipment up. This isn't anything new for an MMO so why act surprised when you join a game over a year late, not like other MMO's that shared both a console and pc didn't have this problem.

I think the problem isn't that there are players who will be higher rank/whatever than starting players. the problem is that ZOS is MARKETING this game as BRAND NEW, not "Oh we released this last year on PC but couldn't get consoles ready in time, btw we're also letting any PC player that qualified and gave us some more money transfer all their progress over to your BRAND NEW GAME."
If you figure in averages, the amount of vocal players on the forums gleefully waiting to go ruin some new players day I would imagine there will be enough of them to make an impact.
Yes players can close some of the gap after playing, but if you are trying to do that and play how you want to play but there is always a vet14 there to spoil your day how long will you continue to play before you just go grab another game? This isn't any fault of the players, good or bad. They want to enjoy themselves and sadly with the lack of content the "new content" some players have opted for is to transfer and mess with newcomers. The fault lies with ZOS making this possible forgetting the #1 rule of the internet "If someone can find a way to ruin someone else's day, they will do so with gusto".
This is harmful because if enough of these new players leave, it lowers total pop which is part of the "content" of an MMO. As that number dips lower and lower the game will fail and how long before they decide to scrap it and try again with another game? This might be an extreme example, but it illustrates the point that players, (Console especially) are not going to bang their head against a brick wall for the two months it would take them to get to a point where they can only start competing against veteran players.
I hope that my outlook on this turns out to be all smoke and no fire, but the fact such an occurrence could happen and would threaten our gameplay on the PC is worrisome to say the least.
Transfers will indeed be more powerful than new players with no way for new players to catch up.
Even if the Veteran Rank gap is closed after a few weeks, or Veteran Ranks are eventually removed from game, transfers will continue to have more Champion Points.
It is an imbalance that the servers will have to face, and it will impact PvP as well as end-game PvE Trial times meaning transfers will continually dominate all competitive content. Transfers will also dominate the economy.
What portion of the console playerbase this upsets is what remains to be seen.
That said, most console players who were genuinely interested in and following information about this game were provided the opportunity to play on PC and pay extra to maintain their progress -- nothing is particularly unfair about this situation.
Ultimately the people who are being punished are:
- Players who only learned of the Elder Scrolls series recently and did not know about the PC version and transfers when they were announced -- such players would be just as far behind if they decided to start a new game on PC today as well.
- Players who actively decided not to participate in the transfer program and completely abstained from playing on PC -- such players come into this with the awareness that they would not have the progress transfers have
- Players who did not have sufficient computing power for ESO and were stuck waiting for console -- such players are the only group that really trigger my sympathies as they got short-changed due to technological or financial reasons rather than choice or being genuinely new to the series

that's just moronic.
What a useless thread no offense. I will be transferring 3 14s and a vet 5. I will be transferring my gold and mats. I will be helping guild mates through dungeons and be a master crafter for others. I don't see what you really have to complain about.

It also is worth considering how different the markets are, I've personally found that almost all (if not all) PC players are better about keeping themselves informed. Console players largely wait until they see an ad for a game, a console player would have seen the ads for ESO back in the day but shortly after launch they all but disappeared so they would like go off of the radar. Now the game is being advertised anew, but the marketing frames it to make this seem like a brand new game. Now I don't believe in arguing fairness because tbh that is silly. What I do find worrying is the marketing is leading newcomers to believe something and when they find out it isn't that could have negative connotations for the game as a whole. Enough bad word of mouth gets around and that is pretty much that for a game, then is just becomes a matter of waiting to see what ZOS does with it. Console players have my sympathies and I truly hope they can stick with it, ZOS seems to be betting a lot on this console release so for everyone's sake I hope it does well.

No one should be surprised by misleading ads for the console. As to the major point of the thread, any console player who buys the game believing it is brand new and is unaware of PC players porting must be living under a rock. They sorta deserved to get stomped if they venture into Cyrodiil unaware. Stupidity brings it's own special awards.

How would they possibly know unless they stumbled onto a forum thread or specifically searched? It's not advertised on any console product info pages for the console versions. I couldn't even cancel my preorder after I did find out.

I'm extrapolating from my own experience. I've never bought a game in the last decade without checking it out on the internet. I guess not everyone checks as carefully before swiping their credit card.

I don't or haven't every time. I started LOTRO blind based soley upon the story based on. Never saw a Skyrim trailer or anything bought it because Elder Scrolls, and I saw very little info before hand of ESO, simply signed up for beta and waited...because Elder Scrolls. Every Fallout except the first was bought just because the first lol, 4 being the first trailer I looked for.
Anyway, my point was only that not everyone investigates every game they buy before hand if they believe they know about what to expect.

Because the game isn't a year old.... the PC version is. To think that it's 'fair', because someone played the games previous iteration, they can borrow gold and basically dupe it by friends sharing lump sums with each other, and without violating any terms of service, now that is moronic.
MMO's often don't even allow new servers to transfer over, and when they do they COMPLETELY move over as in you would no longer have access to play your PC character or use any of the gold/items that was moved over.
This copying of the character, I've only ever seen this for MMO's when they allow players to copy to the TEST SERVER.
You don't think every gold farmer out there didn't just dupe their entire inventories over multiple accounts? These are people who are NOT coming over to console to help players, invest in the economy, etc etc as others have claimed in this thread. They're there for one simple reason, to take advantage of this blunder of allowing gold to be easily duped into an entirely new market of players.

It like letting in cheaters and bullies coming into a game and bully the new console players that not touched or have played the pc version but hoping for fresh start and one would be better then a PC Launch.
