Console Pre-Download

Please explain to us why we cannot pre-download ESO at all before the release date. 65Gb is going to take me anywhere from 3-4 days to be able to fully download, and I would love to know why I am not going to be able to pre-download this at all before the actual release date.

Every other game right now in the Microsoft store is allowing player to buy and download the game before the release date, so that when that date come you can instantly start playing. It really makes no sense to say that you are not able to do this due to some Microsoft restrictions.

Since you say Microsoft, I'm assuming you mean the Xbox One. ESO is like that too. I already have it fully pre-downloaded. It's been predownloadable/preorderable since May 25th or so.

I think you are mighty confused OP.

If you preordered the game through the XBOX Marketplace you are able to preload it already. If you preordered through a retail store you'll have to wait until the CD is sent to you.

    That's it.

The only games that I know of that can be pre-downloaded are ones you buy from the Microsoft store. The same is true for ESO, buy it from Microsoft and you can download the game before the release date. It's the carrot Microsoft uses to buy digitally from them.

    (a complete guess)

I should've thought of this weeks back and asked but I prob wouldn't gotten a response.
Ya know we all purchased the digital transfer from Zenimax rather than PS or Xbox.

If you look around you'll notice that a company like EB Games can sale you a digital game pre-order of a console game and many times they will not send you the code until the night before release ...maybe this is the "console limitation"

Sony is to blame likely since they don't allow pre loading until like a day ahead so everyone is stuck.

Sony seems to be the one bank rolling more of the launch it seems so likely why Xbox has to play by Sony rules.

I wouldn't point fingers at the console company as this isn't their offer.

The way I see it, the one sure way to play on game release day on console is to buy a hard copy :/

Not at all, you have a min of 15+ gig download.
Digital is the way to go to pre install

Assuming the digital version doesn't have a patch on launch, that is. ZoS has never answered that question, despite me and others asking it numerous times.

Either way, you're going to get the initial ~55 gb download first, and then the 15 gb download second. If the launch patch is ready whenever you are able to start downloading, then you'll see it after the initial download. If it isn't ready, then you'll see it whichever day it is ready.

He is obviously talking about people that did the Character Transfer. He even clearly states that he received the email, which refers to those that paid for the PC to Console copy. So OP is not mistaken, it seems like you have mis-understood and/read mis-read what he was saying.

The issue he is referring too is that ZOS is not giving us (us means the people that paid for the PC to Console Transfer) our codes to begin the download until the 8th, which is the day before launch. For some, like the OP he has a slower internet connection which for him it would take a few days for him to download the whole game.

Unless I mis-understood what the guy was saying during the ESO LIVE that I just watched, but he made it sound like even the digital version will required the 15gb download. So even if you are pre-downloaded, when it launches it will prompt for the 15gb download. Again, I could of mis-understood what he said, but it sounded like we all need to download the 15gb update regardless.

During Twitch live today they confirmed that the game is approx 44+ gig on disc and another 15+ gig update to get the full game. Then there are a few other incremental patch updates

The game is 44+ 15gig and maybe after all updates that's another 1-2 gigs of patches knowing ZOS updates. Maybe less

I just watched that. The problem is he was inaccurate on a few cases. The most notable was the fact that the downloaded digital client is not 44/45 GB as he says, it's a 55 GB download right now on Xbox Store. That alone makes me question if he got something else wrong on that regard.

I'm still hoping that the digital edition patch won't be very big.

I caught that too. My hope is that the digital download by June 8 11pm EST grabs the game and the patches.

Yes, they did say this. I am just wondering, if there has been a change in when we can download. The way they talked about it and they mentioned it a few times about pre-loading etc. But tomorrow is when they said they would post information in the forum.

It might not be their offer but they control the release of the offer. What likely happened is ZOS worked out they were going to do this and requested the codes for the transfer games. Sony told them tough you get to give them out after we start our preloading so ZOS is holding back X1 codes so everything goes out at the same time otherwise they would have people complaining saying they would have just bought X1 instead or saying ZOS hates PS4 users.

I highly doubt ZOS cares and if anything based on previous emails they wanted to give out the codes when they did the character copy.

    Ok [/quote

You know Zos would have been a lot smarter if they had just let xbox users go ahead and download their transfer copies now. Would lesson the load come the 8th when both consoles are downloading at the same time. It's not microsofts problem Sony wants to be jerks. :/

I am talking about the e-mail those of us who chose to do the Character Transfer received, sorry for not making that clearer.

Really its a crappy move that its those of us who have been here from the beginning get screwed with not being able to pre-download the game.
