Disappointment in ZoS - Console Transfer

  • Obsicarius
Im not asking for a company to be profitable here necessarily. Im asking them to be considerate. Now if they want to make money off their customer, i should not have to sit here a break it down for them on how to do it. They should understand what we want through our feedback. They already fished the money from me is the sad part. So they don't need my money, but when they do look at some point to see why customers are leaving, here is just one reason. And its something they couldve stopped.

Why was there a deadline for transferring anyway? THis should be a thing all the time. Other games allow you to transfer between servers at the drop of a hat.

Because, this also included a digital copy of the console version of the game for $20. If this was just about the transfer, things might have been different.

Like I mentioned in the post, it is one thing if the money offer was limited time. But why limit the time for transfer of characters as well. I am at this point fine with paying another $60 for the game. I think the studio did very well with the game and how far it has come at this point. But not having the ability to transfer my characters and items is upsetting because everything on PC now seems to be a waste. The point of transferring to console was to have more people to play with.[/quote]

What makes other people more special then me since I have been waiting for this game on console since oblivion? I work as well but Google is the future on finding answers to pc copy to console. I was harressed last year during beta when I walked into to my game store about pc to console transfer. I sucked up the pc miserable keyboard for over a year. I understand people were not organized and expect symphony to be able to transfer even though they did not follow the rules like I did. I hope you can still transfer but if not I can't feel sorry forcyou. Sorry but you should have wasted 30 seconds of your life to look what had to happen to be able to transfer. Should the over a year delay ring a bell? I just don't understand sorry.

    I didn't get it, either.

I was waiting for the console release to come back, since they'd said I'd be able to transfer when that option was available. With the console release finally coming up shortly, I decided to take a look into it to see how to proceed only to find out that the window to do the transfer was over a month before the actual release date and I'd missed it.

    So I won't buy it.

I'd argue that it's a stupid way to do things, the only thing that the process was good for was leaving some people screwed by their way of proceeding with it, and that their notifications of the limited nature of the transfer and its expiration were poor. Even if you missed the original email there really should have been -something- to say at least "hey, you're going to miss out on this forever...last chance." But there wasn't.

Since none of us expected it to be open for only limited time, with other things going on in our lives, we thought there was no reason to check up on it. With the original way they explained it. It seem as if there was no reason to follow it until it was released.

You cant fool me into believing that someone would write a new bible because he/she missed a chance to "show off" the pc character for family and friends.....

Supposedly this is due to not checking promotions and deal in the email preferences in account settings. That was my understand of the OP.

How else would they know who to send to apart from being qualified (based on account history) and having the proper account settings. They aren't going to spam people who indicated they don't want email updates.

While I understand the disappointment of some, I personally stay on top of these things if they are significant to me. If I miss the deadline, I deal with it. If circumstances hinder me from doing what I would have like to have done, that is life.

Regarding those who like to say they should just allow this on demand, how? There is no indication that they developed any such system. Doing a one-off mass migration of accounts to a system that is not yet in production and is not yet populated with data is a completely different beast than the automated copying of records between separate live systems on demand. Especially when the 3 ESO backends likely won't be connected to one another to allow direct copying of data. I can't imagine that XBox Live would allow it.

You're absolutely right and i agree. That is how the real world works. But i do also believe there is room for exceptions depending the cirumstance. Thst being said everyone that was entitled to a transfer might not have been aware or capable of fulfilling the 30 day limitation. I personally believe if they were going to do this 30 day only offer, they should have advertised a month before hand. Or had two 15 day periods in 2 different months. Thanks for the positive note. :)

Only people that were eligible received the email. But I think this offer/promotion is a little different than normal case since it was an original incentive to buy the game. I feel like it should've been handled differently.

I agree as I am in the same boat I also only found out today that I won't be able to transfer my collections etc to console.

I never received an email which is odd because I get lots of emails from them and check and keep them all so it was obviously a mistake on there part.

I don't follow twitter or Facebook I would have thought the dashboard and clearly posted on forums would have been better.

I'm more mortified for all my loyalty rewards that I will now never be able to get on console aswell as all the money I have spent on the crown store which is basically everything.

My account has been linked to the xbox one since the beta and it asked if I wanted to tranfer my details when I started the beta I remember it clearly and so all this time I figured I was covered until today.

Very upsetting this has been I keep track of eso news regularly and cant believe I never saw this deadline.

well I didn't read your whole post but basically its your own fault... there have been plenty of infos on multiple channels: emails, social media, website, your account and so on... and if you were so interested in the transfer then you shoulda payed more attention to it...

im sure the deadline has a reason.. maybe they have to prep the data... and that the fact that it will be a limited time frame has also been announced...

ok you had somthin else going on... but I cant blame companies for my own problems :/

and theres always the chance they will offer this service again at a later time...

I mean, being the situatuon i am now. If they clearly advertised the offer ahead of time and even had a follow-up of a day or two for all the people that were not fortunate enough I would be happy. Just something at this point. And i honestly don't think I am asking for too much here. I would be fine if they still charged me full price at this rate. As long as I get the transfer of my accout and all the loyalties and what not.

I admit the 20$ copy is nice. On the brightside many people will be rolling new characters. I actually am doing that to meet possibly new people and dungeons will be fun. I look at it as a new experience and hope lots of others will. Also changes have been made in zone delves and some stuff compared to launch and 6 months ago. I look at it as almost a new game. Voice chat has me excited also. Should be loads of fun.

I am in same boat as you Obsicarius. I received no emails and i don't have social media and i don't consume myself in news feeds. And i have the bad taste after posting my concerns here.

The balance scale is completely lop sided. On the right, there are dozens of valid reasons why this deadline is absurd. On the left, it's the same single comment of oh well, you missed it.

Unfortunately this isn't the place to express your discontent. Just as you, i posted my disbelief of how ZoS is treating this matter. People here just view our feelings as a "tantrum". Meanwhile if half these people got a bad steak at a nice restaurant, they would boycott the restaurant and tell their friends to do the same... but that's different.

I don't care about the financial aspect of this deadline, which i also believe shouldn't have been to begin with. I just want my account available for transfer.

Yes they sent multiple emails. An advanced noticed prior to April 9th and then again once the offer was now running. Both mentioned the end date as well.

So, if people didn't check their emails for an entire month or chose to ignore it then that is NOT ZOS' fault and they have no responsibility to do anything further for those who did not pay attention or care to act in time.

I didn't play long on the PC (didn't like keyboard mouse control) and never seen or heard of an offer allowing me to purchase the game for console for a discounted price.

I really don't care about the character transfer from PC to Console but would have liked saving a few $$ and not have to paid full retail for the game for 2 systems.

How long ago did you buy the game? Unless you bought it between launch and I think it was June 30 that was the only way anyone was eligible for the upgrade/transfer offer.

Completely agree with you, at this point all I am requesting is a way to transfer my account. I will pay the extra $$. No one on here listens and it is truly a shame, they are ignorant towards our responses. The worst part is that you will see the same people commenting on this post that commented on others about this topic. What is even better is their responses are nearly the same on all their posts. I wish a mod or someone would see this. Over half of these people wont even read the post before commenting. Wish people would listen and support our ideas instead of telling us its stupid. How does our proposal affect them for them to comment on it and point fingers when the subject matter does not affect them. Why are they wasting their time arguing against us when all I am asking for is support on an idea that I feel is important and should be brought up to the developers. If you don't agree than don't comment, we already have plenty of negativity. If you support the idea leave a comment and help us advise a plan to propose to ZoS here. But if you do not agree don't waste your time here.

They shouldn't make promises they cannot keep, or at least be fair enough to explain all the limitations before having someone buy the game and waste their time on it. They fished money out of my pocket in this situation just like they did others. Whether you agree or not does not matter here. You are being ignorant to say that everyone was capable of seeing the news at the time, especially since it was a limited time offer. They have plenty of room to give incentive to old players here. All I am asking for is a character transfer like they promised. And your dad is right with the saying. But its not snoozing when you have other things going on in your life. Just bigger responsibility.

I'm jumping in cause I shared this in another very similar thread that is now locked due to personal info

As of 5-2014 this is what you were "offered" and note nothing was "promised"

    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2014/05/08/eso-on-consoles--update

Read our update regarding ESO’s availability on next-gen consoles.

We know from the frequent questions we get that many of you are excited about playing ESO on the PS4 and Xbox One, and today we’d like to share an official update on the status of these releases. Read on for the latest information:

We've been grateful to our fans for the wonderful response to our recent launch of The Elder Scrolls Online for PC/Mac, but we know many of you are eagerly waiting to play the game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks—which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.

We know that the news of an ESO console delay is as disappointing to many of you as it is to us. We want to do what we can to make it up to our fans who want to start playing now, so we have worked out the following arrangement with Sony and Microsoft:

Via a special offer, anyone who purchases and activates the PC/Mac version of The Elder Scrolls Online by 6/30/14 (11:59pm UTC) will have the opportunity to transfer their character(s) to either console version when they are released. The offer will allow you to begin playing immediately on the PC/Mac, and then add the PS4 or Xbox One version and transfer the character(s) you have created and developed. And, you don’t have to pay full price for the game twice. For $20, eligible PC and Mac players will have the option to add a full, digital version of ESO on either the PS4 or the Xbox One with your character transfer(s), and another 30 days of included game time.

Whether you decide to take advantage of this offer or not, we promise to do everything we can to get the game released on both consoles as quickly as we can. We will keep everyone updated with additional details regarding character transfers, specific offer dates, when you can expect console beta to start, and of course, when ESO on consoles will launch.

Thank you for your patience and loyal support.

So that was in 2014 and then on April 9 2015 everyone got another email
    ...more to edit

At approx 10 am EST I got this email

IF you still missed all of this as of March and April on the help site you'll find this:

    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/list/kw/Console transfer/search/1

I'm sorry but anyone who missed out, did so and is their own responsibility as the info was out there officially and via 5 or 6 other social media and another 4-5 gaming sites

Like I told you, I had my reasons like others did to not see the promotion. All together whether you want to classify it as a promise or not, This is massive slap to the face to their veteran customers. They weaseled out of it to their veteran members and now gave me no reason to come back to their game. Yes, they didn't guarantee anything and they don't have to do anything about this. But I like many others obviously feel betrayed by this company. I am the voice of many that are upset.

so...........your blaming ZOS for YOU not doing anything in the whole MONTH that it was available.....

I hate on ZOS constantly, ask many on this forums, i am cynical and tend to think the worst of ZOS, and even I think this is your problem, that has nothing to do with ZOS.

This is what I mean. I come on here for a discussion and only one person has provided it thus far. Every other comment is youre're SOL or shut up and deal with it. On top of that it is the same exact people that have commented on every post about this. No help at all here. Its not about getting what I want. But even if ZoS released a statement to speak about all the people in uproar about this. There is no response here from anyone that can actually do anything about this. And not a single true hard fact as to why they did it this way. So on that. No other comment here is relevant to the issue at hand. And I like everyone else atleast would like to know why.

You made a well thought out post, you took your time to come here and try and either get information, get support or maybe just vent what you see as a wrong. I appreciate that. Your post and followups was interesting and provocative.

Unfortunately there are a majority of folks here that don't read the posts, skim or just exercise their right to ship all over some one else's troubles...I'm not one of those, even if I disagree. And I don't disagree with you.

The bottom line is (whether you were informed of the narrow window of redemption of offer or not. Or put yourself in a position to receive that offer by being on every social app there is) it is a tiny window of opportunity to redeem the offer you are otherwise qualified for. It is an arbitrary time frame. It could have been 15 days or 32 days. They picked 30. I think that sucks big time. Either more time (I dunno 60 days? 90?) or the option to pay more dollars to transfer that character (crown points) in the future would make sense to me. Then I am someone that enjoys the game and wants everyone to be able to play. You know, I'm an enabler. Kind of like what ZOS should be doing. Making it easy to play.

After all ZOS got people that were waiting for console to pay for and play the game this past year to get off their back about a broken promise of being ready JUNE 2014. These people made & played characters for a year. The loyalty alone of playing and paying for a year should resonate with anyone with a reasonable view of "fair-play".
A 30 day window and the expectation that you receive emails of every plushie and Fallout4 bobblehead promotion is not reasonable fair play.

Good luck to you playing something else. Most of my friends and guildmates have left too.

it is likely NOT arbitrary, it could have something to do with how the servers are set up, or even something that MS or Sony made them do.

it would not matter what they say, because people with your attitude would STILL be angry. The fact they did the transfer AT ALL is something most MMOs had never done.

It's amusing to me that the forums are blowing up with posts from all these people that finally crawled out from under their rock and realized they missed the promotion.

I guess email, the launcher, the official website, forums, various gaming news platforms and social media sites weren't enough to reach these luddites.

Don't worry though, next time Matt Firor will personally send a carrier pidgeon and a singing telegram to get the word out.

The highlighted portion is my major point to anyone. The complaints....or lack of responsibility of others who then blame the company is concerning.

LOL I can't believe this is still going on, maybe I should start up 3 4 or more threads on how I supported this game for over a year then found out they weren't even working on the PC/MAC version. A whole year of my money all for a senche, 10%xp and all DLC's in the future as long as I keep paying. But nope I have accepted it and moved on. Something some others should adopt.

    Oh well back to game.

The balance scale is completely lop sided. On the right, there are dozens of valid reasons why this deadline is absurd. On the left, it's the same single comment of oh well, you missed it.

The biggest reason why there is a deadline is because copying thousands and thousands of database records across potentially several databases is no joke. They figured out how much time they needed to do it while being able to make sure nothing explodes in the process. The group of people asking for exceptions are inadvertently asking for the success of the entire process to be compromised. So unfortunately, yes, you did miss it. Hopefully the copy is successful, and they can figure out how to downscale it to individual copies in a way that is profitable so other people (including those who bought the PC game after June 30, 2014) can copy their characters too.

    - It has also come to my attention that this was sent by an email notification so the first thing I did was check my email all the way back to April 9th, 2015. When I noticed I did not have an email regarding this, I sent in a ticket and had customer support contact me by phone. Upon talking she had explained that I did not have promotions and deals checked on my account but did have news email notifications. Now I began to question, did I really miss this promotion that was promised to me a year ago because I did not have that box checked upon purchasing the game? How can you promise veteran members such an awesome offer a year ago, and then make it that limited that since they do not have that box checked they miss out? I just like many other people, have more important things to do with my life than to follow every single deal made by video game company in email. I am not going to let video game offers flood my email when there are more important matters at hand.

You decided not to opt in to receive such updates.

You're just missing the point. I am requesting a follow-up for those that were unable to make the dealine or understand the limitations. That is all at this point. Whether you agree or not i do not care. Its a post requesting a follow-up. I do not care why at this point. But just say it is a fair request. Ive stated this many times if you read the posts.
