See I think what people are confusing here is a tank and a tanky player. IMO all players should be tanky, but a tank is utterly useless.
Unless you can somehow "aggro" the opposing players, you don't need a tank. Especially in 1.6 where most people expect fights to last 20 seconds or less, the team that can keep pressure without dying will win.

Call it whatever you want - I mean someone who is focusing on protecting his group members and controling the enemy by focusing on defense and putting himself in the line.
In order to force enemies to attack him he can use CC, support, rez group members, or anything else that helps his group/hinder the enemy from playing their game without the need of high offensive stats.
