Guild vs Guild Tournament

I've been discussing some guild vs guild exercises with a few of our opponents over the past few weeks, and I believe it would be interesting to put together a guild vs guild tournament.

My thoughts on the rules:
  • Each guild is to have 16 people in their group
  • No outside interference from other members of any faction (no hidden people casting anything)
  • All battles to be in open field (no keeps, outposts, or resources) away from NPCs
  • The people in a team must all be part of the same guild
  • Names of team members (and alternates) to be posted in advance where possible
  • If someone doesn't show up, replacements from the same guild are permitted
  • All fights to be supervised by someone(s) from the faction not fighting
  • All fights to be in a campaign that is neutral (no emp buff, and everyone has the same bonuses from scrolls/keeps/etc)

Things to discuss:
  • Do the rules make sense? Is there anything that should be added?
  • I believe that "no siege" is a good rule, though it's part of PvP and can turn the tide of a fight. Avoiding siege is important enough that we may want it to be an option.
  • What are the stakes? Are bragging rights enough? Should each participant put up a few thousand gold (so 16 x 5k per team?) and the winning team takes all? Who is trusted enough to hold it all? I suppose streaming the collection of entry fees so everyone can see is possible though what's to stop a person from running away with the gold? Alternatively, once a team wins, everyone goes to a resource of their colour and everyone else dies giving them a nice tick? What's to prevent other people from running away and denying that tick to the winners if they are sore losers? What is a reasonable prize?
  • What happens if there are two teams from the same faction who beat everyone else? Is it declared a tie between those two? Is there a feasible tie breaker?

    I was just advised that giving a nice tick as a prize could violate the terms of use / rules. I've not checked myself, though someone should probably do so eventually.

    Another suggestion was to try and get a GM to supervise the tournament (think Phreak casting LoL tournaments type of thing).

    I say no siege in the fight and possible make them use ultis before the fight if possible. too many will just bomb at the start and it will never end.

    Yeah I'd much rather 12v12.
    8v8 would also be good. 12 is like a happy middle ground.

    6v6 is the format we've been theorycrafting around and playing with. We've had a few 6v6 with Vice, Decibel and GoS. I'd say it is the best size to prevent the instant vaporization of players that you would be getting in higher group sizes.

    As someone who took part in this i agree that 6v6 is the max you would want. Even at 6v6 it takes a good build to survive burst (FU sypher, i dont forget!).

    You could have more players in reserve if you wanted more involved, filling the holes as team mates die.

    Potentially a win for the faction, or, going by Cyrodiil lore, participate in a lag fight. Whatever group crashes first, loses.

    Assuming that the last player alive wins right. So is rezzing allowed? While unlikely, some can rez in a sec or less.

    Crown are you going to host it? You should make an officials rules post and have folks register (on forums is usually suffcient). Then you can make brackets - I recommend 2 out of 3 fights with double elimination.
    Honestly, you shouldn't restrict any gear (e.g. nirnhorn). It's too hard to enforce and for some people, thats their gear and they don't want to go spend gold on new gear (or dont have gold). If there are certain exploits (e.g. CC lock out) you could make it a rule, but I think that's going to be hard to enforce as well.
    You need to have a limit on how large the "arena" is... i.e. don't let ppl run across the whole map.
    I say res's are fine... adds an interesting dynamic.
    I'd say no to siege but don't feel overly strong about it.

    [*] I also think we should make this a weekly event.. the laggy blob pvp is real right now

    A guild tourney sounds good. 6v6 or 8v8 is probably good.

    I think we should discuss where is a good place to do this and what the boundaries are. I can look tonight but does anyone have suggestions? I think it should be big enough that you can retreat a little but small enough where people are losing sight of people who are res'ing etc. Good terrain is key.. a spot where you can line of sight some times, but should still be pretty open-fielded. Should also be away from the action so we aren't interrupted.

    I also say we do it on Thornblade.. its the least populated atm. People can then prepare for the tourney by not being homed there (therefore no one has alliance buffs)

    Are we putting class restrictions in? In a lot of games, players make rules, like no more than 50% of one class. I'm not sure that's needed but it should be considered. Is a group made of mostly templar healers going to be unkillable?

    Also what are the rules for stealth? Both teams need to start out of stealth I assume.. then after that it's whatever goes? I think if we find the right terrain, then that should probably be fine.

    Just don't make it as guild vs guild then, most of the best players won't be able to participate in those fights otherwise.

    • Fix Volendrung (spawn location - weapon white on the map causing the wielder to keep it forever - usable with emperorship)
    • Remove / Change CPs System, remove current CP/noCP campaigns and introduce one 30days with lock, one with no locks

    Update summary:
    • I can host and stream the tournament
    • There will be no prizes, just bragging rights
    • People seem to want 6v6 and 12v12 matches (we'll see how many sign up for each)
    • Matches will be best of three
    • No siege allowed
    • Resurrections are allowed
    • There are no gear restrictions

    Things to discuss next:
    • Should there be limits on classes (I don't think so, though minimum one of each would be interesting for 6v6 or 2 of each for 12v12)
    • How should elimination work - or should there even be elimination? I like the idea of having each group should fight each other group in a best of three series, though this isn't fair if one faction has more groups than another as points for winning a series would not be balances. I need your thoughts on this..

    Bonus game of capture the flag - we put one person from each faction (I vote Sarenvog as AD flag!) at the end of a field (imagine a big triangle with the flag person at the points of the triangle) about 50 yards apart. This person will be naked (no gear equipped) and not allowed to move (blocking allowed). All three teams start on their flag. The winner is determined when both of their opponents' flags are dead, and they have stacked back on their own flag (who is alive). Resurrections allowed. There will be strategies involved of who to send as attackers vs defenders and to which side. You're not out until all your team are dead and your flag is dead.
