Motifs?

I notice that about a day ago Motif prices dropped and sales of motifs all but stopped. Looks like prices in the crown store are the same as they have been. Anyone know what's up?

But most people who want them already have them. In game price drop is not new.

Its not a sudden thing... they've been going down since just after they went into the crown store.

Which is totally to be expected.

Also most people who have been here for a while already have them now... so anything they find gets added to guild stores etc.

SO we now have A. a method via cash to buy them. & B. A surplus in the in-game market leading to lower prices anyway.

Combine both those things & the prices have gone quite low & will probably go down a bit further at a guess.

Pre 1.6, Motifs were selling for less than 100 gold in the Kiosks. Post 1.6, there was some scarcity and the prices went up to 800 each, then have floated back down to the 400 to 500 range (last time I checked).

However I have noticed less sales on the Motifs lately, and a lot more stock in the Guild Stores. Which is really curious as I have raised 3 toons into the Teens in Legerdemain from looting alone (no pickpocketing or murders ever) so I have looted a ton of containers. I have seen 4 Blue Motifs and 2 Purple Motifs since 1.6 dropped. This compares to finding 3 to 6 motifs a day pre 1.6

So, I don't know where all the Motifs are coming from myself. I for sure am not finding them. Just selling from my stock acquired pre 1.6

You might just have been unlucky. I also tend to loot a lot of containers and I found that blue motifs drop very, very often, in 1.5 just like in 1.6, practically unchanged.
So yes after a while the market is overwhelmed. I just give them to my guildies or sell them to the NPC vendor now. They're too cheap to deserve a guild store item space :-)

Exactly. I keep up with sales in about 15 guilds and I have seen this across the board in all of them. Lots of motif stock, prices dropping sharply. In the 5 where I am a member sales have been steady at ~20 blue motifs a day for weeks but today only 3 have sold. Maybe this is anticipation of the Crown store fire sale. If so then I just need to hold onto my stock for a while. With those items being removed from the crown store, prices should go back up soon.

A toon's gotta make a living, ya know.

So ZoS are selling motifs off at half price to ruin the economy before taking them off the market for a while? Market manipulation at its best

Pretty sure the next big seller will be Lucky Dip Trait Bags - buy a bag of five trait stones and maybe, just maybe, one will be nirncrux!!!

Followed by Temper Bags - one in a hundred contains a gold!

Motifs are one-time-use items so the market is doomed to disappear sooner or later anyway, with or without "manipulation".

Toons that need to make a livin' should rather sell consumables ! People will always need potions and thus plants :-) and they will always use tempers since there will always be a new "FOTM" item set that people will want to try.

Not exactly. They're selling the individual common motifs at half off before taking them off the market. The packs of motifs are unaffected. So most likely they just decided that they didn't want to bother with selling them individually anymore.

Honestly, 500g for blue motifs is high. I attribute that to the influx of new players, plus the fact that they are no where as common to find as they were back around launch. Probably just hit market saturation, and the bubble popped.

I on the other hand have been steadily selling them for 200g since shortly after kiosks where introduced. Only recently did I start upping my prices a little.

While I am glad they are removing the Blue Motifs, this just means I have to hang on to them even longer.

I do have to chuckle at the term "Closeout".

Yeah, going out of stock is an odd idea when what you are really selling is bits and bytes.
