That middle finger error though

I am rather shocked to have not found any topics on this error.

From my experience, I only ever get this bug in association with Cyrodill. Whether it is during a loading screen entering or exiting Cyrodill or a loading screen from entering or exiting a delve in Cyrodill. Eventually I end up getting the dreaded middle finger error message. And this error really does apply the middle finger because not only does it boot you from the game but it also prevents you (well, me anyways) from logging back into the game for anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes.

While this bug/error is not game-breaking, it is extremely frustrating.

    Yeah I had that error yesterday lol I turn the computer on and tried to log in, got error 1 and just turned it back off.

    Often means not enough server resources for the zone or instance. IOW bring back the overflow server.

    Seriously though, think about it. Some programmer actually put that middle finger error message in the coding.

    i just keep repeating, trying to login. worst case was 3rd time the charm. never get longer than that.

    If <<1>> really means a lack of server resources, I find it amazing that they run low with so very few players still playing the game. They were actually preparing for millions of players, and now we have only a very small fraction of that.

    Ack, the <<1>> showing up has been fixed internally for a while, but hasn't made it to the live servers yet. We'll be merging it over soon, and once that's done it will show up in an incremental patch.

    Incidentally, the text for that error is essentially "An unknown error occurred", and it happens when you get disconnected from the server without an error code -- a 'catch-all' of sorts. As for the <<1>>, it's not actually intended to represent anything graphically, it's a placeholder for "parameter #1".

    We're still investigating why the disconnects actually happen, but in the meantime, the UI should at least display correctly.

    Good to know that this issue is known and that a fix is in the works for error <<1>>.
    I have been getting this occasionally since 2.0.7, when loading a character from character selection screen, or (rarely) when zoning to a different (and busy) zone. It seems like some sort of timeout - and is an indication of how much the game has slowed down for me recently. (Bigger cities are becoming unmanageably slow - very low frame rates, high latency).
    Some guild members that I speak with have this error much more often though.

    ZoS races to hot fix the misuse of Bear Traps, but leaves this fix hanging in the wind? How long ago was this fixed internally? Never mind...lol. I will never understand ZoS' priorities. Hoping to see this make it into an incremental patch Soon.

    Note that the fix is just to display the correct error text, not to actually fix the connection problem.
