Can't play modern singleplayer games. They are for kids.

if you think the witcher series if for kids I really hope you don't have any actual children.

And think, it's rated the same as ESO. Wtf? ESO is and should be E for everyone in Elementary school.

only because an AO rating would prevent it from being on shelves in the states, or sold at all in Australia.

I believe this has to do with context. while something like postal and grand theft auto have violence, gore and nudity for the "fun" of it, such things have actual contextual merit in the Witcher novels much as they do in game of thrones.

    I'm desperately seeking something else.

I tried The Secret World and found it kind of boring and the movement not very fluid. I may go back to GW2.

So far my list of MMOs people have recommended after I escape Tamriel is:

not sure if serious. given your list below you must be a pvper. so let my 22 years of MUD and MMORPG experience guide you here:

LOTRO - if you hated the secret world animations, you will despise this game. crafting interdepencies can be frustrating. you will never fight another player of the same class in pvp, it's is PVMP - monster play.

SWTOR - pvp here is limited to themed arenas. great single player experience, especially right now as with a sub you can level entirely through the main story. faction balance issues means that without a premade, pvp can be frustrating. raiding is not particularly challenging, and when you consider the game is over 3 years old really does not have all that much endgame content.

Rift - underrated game. great pvp. great and hard raiding. no soul - story is aimless. you do not feel attached to your character. without a solid and social guild, most people leave after the first month.

EQ2 - a relic. you will need 089790790978 hotkeys to perform adequately. there are more classes than raid slots, which really limits what you can play. as with all pve focused mmorpgs, pvp here is mostly an unbalanced joke.

GW2 - pvp only. there are no carrots in pve except those which are aesthetic in nature. the pvp is 2nd only to an entry down the list.

Neverwinter Online - cash grab for perfect world. early exploiting of the diamond market ruined the economy and it has never recovered (on pc anyway). I haven't played that character since 3 months after it launched and my account is sitting on 67 million astral diamonds. Anyone who plays the game now can tell you that us old folks that worked that system over own the economy of that game. new players can never catch up.

FFXIV - if one of your issues with eso is the vr grind, going to ANY Asian mmorpg is not going to give you a better experience. It's not a bad game, but its endgame is also lacking and not accessible for those without stupid amounts of free time or well established, active guilds.

Path of Exile - you may as well have added eve online to the list if you are including this game. spreadsheet and calculator required. as with diablo 3 and marvel heroes, this game is all about grinding the same few maps over and over.

Diablo 3 - not a bad game to play now and then, but most folks play it for a month or two then do something else. the pursuit of set pieces can be extremely frustrating. I have spent 27,000 blood shards on helms and have yet to see a mask of jeiram for my witch doctor as an example.

Dark Age of Camelot - still the best rvr game on the planet. you will need to join an established guild. pve is mostly an afterthought here but can be rewarding. long term players all have second accounts with buffbots.

Darkfall - don't waste your time here. you want to talk about broken promises in eso? these guys make zenimax look like never-fibbing Vulcans.

Tera - Korean. Korean = grinding. Does it say westernized? They lied. Goofy, over-the-top animations without any of the meat of 2h combat in this game. Want to shoot things as a panda with a purple glowing gun that looks like the shoulder mounted Predator cannon is suffering from a tumor? this is the game for you.

Archage - more broken promises. still Korean. still a grinder. still 90% bots, gold sellers and exploiters.

and talk of a Dark Souls MMO to come. - which will still be Asian ie. heavy, heavy grind.

Or hell, I might just start reading more again. I remember books. Anyone else remember books?

the only reason any mmorpg player stays with a single game for the long run has to do with the people they meet and the relationships they form. if you are more of a lone wolf, get yourself several mmorpg's and install them all. you will find yourself going back and forth as your interests peak and wane. I still occasionally play my old MUD from 1993. I still maintain eq, eq2 and daoc accounts. The only time I have ever stuck with a single mmorpg for more than a year was due to the people I would meet in them - but folks outgrow or move on (or as with the age of my MUD'ng group - die off :( )

Ordered CE as soon as it was available.

So glad I can store 12days worth of enlightenment in ESO.

Can't wait to get back to playing that world-weary mutant death-machine: Geralt of Rivia.

Oh man, also can't wait to see the first reunion between Triss and Yennefer, it's going to be ugly.

CDPR has taken a quantum leap past the rest of the RPG market and they've done it on a shoestring budget.

Unless you are rabidly opposed to single player games, you're missing out if you don't check any of the Witcher games out.

I'll be playing ESO along with a few other games as usual.

So far as Witcher 3 is concerned, I'm interested in it but need to know that it won't be ruined by next-to-impossible twitch-based boss fights like Witcher 2. Also, be aware that it has very high required specs so that my rig which plays ESO flawlessly on high settings won't, according to the current specs stipulated, meet the minimum requirements - the Geforce GTX 560 Ti card with 1GB VRAM is apparently inadequate. I guess we'll see once people start playing it.

When a single-player only game comes out, I don't understand people's need to have it right away. You don't have to worry about joining the community right away. The game will be the same experience years from now.

I will probably get it on sale in 3-4 months. I can wait.

They are on the shelves in game, but I don't read them. Just quickly open and close then move on hoping to get a free level in something.

Anyway; I am thinking about checking in on the Repopulation to see where it is at while I wait for DAOC. If it winds up even coming close to being a more modern SWG or UO in a sci-fi skin I may never leave.

The first witcher game required some knowledge of the books and the world in general that the game was based on. The 2ed and the upcoming one doesn't has much.

I may be playing Witcher 3, but I've never played the previous titles so I may try to do that first.

I've been playing some DC Universe Online and SWTOR. I will continue playing those games until ESO has some actual content updates and it's already been a while. I'm enjoying SWTOR for the story quite a bit and DCUO has some of the best skill based/reactionary action combat I've seen in any MMORPG. DCUO is also releasing new DLC content monthly now which is pretty interesting.

I'm fully content with other games but I do hop back into ESO to check mail or checking certain things from time to time. Sadly, it's mostly mails from people stating that they are leaving the game behind and polite goodbyes. That sort of thing.

Maybe Zenimax will realize that some of us don't buy the development pause due to the console shipping. DC Universe Online shipped PS4 support inside of a game update along with a ton of other features just like every other game update. They didn't have to pause development to branch out support to another piece of hardware and they didn't have to completely neglecting their current customers. Granted, different games mean different challenges but let's be honest with ourselves, hurdles like that should have been at least forecasted. 6 months without content with the game's current content selection is atrocious. They even had an extra year to get the consoles ready so I'm not certain that this is a trustworthy display of transparency. Remember when they said they had no plans to deviate from the sub only model? Sure seems like that was planned from the beginning.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing some actual development and growth for ESO. I'd like to see it be a great and successful game but if you don't release playable content then I don't see how it can benefit.
