Myself, my guild and everyone I speak too are staying PC. I'll be on the Console occasionally just to humor my friends that can't afford to play on a new PC but can afford the $400 console. Won't need to spend a lot of time there as I'll already be a year ahead of them lol.

So I have been playing ESO off and on (mostly on) since Beta. What with them going to consoles now AND the fact that subscribing doesn't make much sense....should I be worried about still being a PC player? Is PC being abandoned? Do I need to go find a new game?

The code base on the server side should be the same so anything consoles get, PCs will get. Major bugs like if Deshaan disappeared completely would happen to both and would get fixed. If they are maintaining seperate server code for PC/Mac, PS4, and XB1, that potentially means trouble.

Where console launch will affect PC users is if you want fixes or ui changes to the PC client (the stuff you download), I think consoles will get priority for a while.

I think it's up to your personal threshold for:
    - Being very very very patient - if it takes over a year to fix a bug, that's ok with you
    - Not knowing what to expect - Do you like surprises and twists?
    - Figuring out how the game works - do you like spreadsheets and constantly testing skills and mechanics?

Then you've got nothing to worry about.

Well PC users have had the opportunity to play the game for over a year. That's better than being stuck with a console and only reading forums about the game. :)

People are always freaking out over everything around here. But I would say don't worry. If the consoles sales do well, it will only help ensure the long-term viability of the game as a whole. If they do poorly, then ZOS will probably just focus more attention on the PC version. Either way, the PC version isn't likely going away anytime soon. Unless the console version really tanks and ZOS has already determined that the PC version is bleeding money (both of which seem pretty unlikely), then ESO will be here for a long time to come.

    Don't worry, be happy, man!

typical multi-platform dev response. "oh no no don't worry, with the money we'll make from console, we'll work on PC as well! together, bro!"

sorry, but it never happened before.

give me ONE major game example that does this: console revenue boosts PC development. any genre. any time.

100% of the time that i'm aware of (i'm not Akatosh though, i could be wrong), console revenue goes to console DLC/exclusive/content... while gets..... "oh, now THIS part we can just half-ass port it. let's throw them a bone."

humans are greedy like that. the sooner people accept it, the less painful it becomes when reality strikes.

Console games that have brought in revenue for PC development

    1. The Call of Duty series
    2. The battlefield series
    3. Diablo 3 helped fund it's xpac with console sales
    4. The grand theft auto series
    5. DC universe online console version helped develop PC side
    6. The final fantasy series which used funds from their previous games to find the online version
    7. The halo series
    8. Boarder Lands series
    9. Should I keep going ?

For the next year I wouldn't worry that much, it's not looking good that they don't fix the little things in the game. But that's just how game companies think, they want to release big new content to get free PR from the press. You get very little PR for fixing the dungeon finder, that's not headline stuff on mmorpg.

They have several zones lined up, one of them is finished most likely, others are in various states. So those zones are probably going to be wrapped up. After that it's a little in the blue, my guess is, they'll not make new zones after that but focus on their next game.

If only somebody on the team would have had the balls to say, "Look. This needs a lot more work. Let's fight to delay the PC release at least a year so we can release a great game on every platform instead of one on PC now that feels just average."

Or maybe somebody did and the Bosmers on the team ate him shortly before they set up their "Positive Feedback Only Or STFU" stance on the beta forums and in the beta surveys. The beta surveys were ridiculous. I never filled them out because nothing in those surveys would ever amount to making a better game.

The game's always been allergic to negative feedback, and it's only going to be a few more weeks until they realize that they can't hide from negative feedback on console, either. And then it will still be all our faults because the devs can't possibly be wrong. Corporate indoctrination: If people don't love it, there's something wrong with the people. Maybe they're just stupid or something.

Yeah, I'm worried about the PC version. I'm worried about all the versions. Because everybody working on it will put this game on their list of experience when it's pretty obvious that nobody's learned anything from it that will benefit a future product.
Unless "Buckling To Corporate Demands" and "Making Crap Look Pretty" are now considered transferable skills.

+1. This comment will likely be deleted.

I agree. The lack of meaningful dev response during beta is why i didn't buy the game until recently. And yet I come here and find that not only have the devs ignored the overwhelming amount of feedback this community provides, but they're actively trying to hide it all behind cash store cosmetics and empty, months-old promises. 1.6 was a great start, but it really circumvented and reversed a lot of issues.

This game had every advantage a dev could ask for. A library of existing lore and story to draw on, a ravenously hungry fanbase of millions of hardcore and casual players, a budget the size of a small country's GDP, and a growing MMO market just waiting for something new. it's not too late to revive this thing (follow FF14's example), but you cant go this long without some transparency before ppl assume you've given up.

Both of these people have no idea what they are taking about plain and simple. If you played FFXI 1.0 you would know why the game was brought down and how A realm reborn is pretty much a completely different game. ESO is not even close to the disaster that 1.0 was.

@OP ; people have been saying the end is nigh since the launch of the game, so many "if this or that doesn't change" or "this new change will be the end" threads that if I had a sweet roll for everyone I would be in a diabetic coma. The game is chugging along fine, people seem to say that the devs are not listening that we are ignored all the time. Do these people realize that ZoS has been listening all along...do you know why the inception of the veteran rank system is here ? It's because in beta people complained that they could not visit the other alliance zones, that it wasn't fair you had to create a new character to experience all the quests and zones. BOOM ZoS gave us vet ranks so we could continue to quest in the other alliance zones. Then people didn't like the VR grind so ZoS pretty completely overhauled ALL aspects of the game to give us the champion system.

PC will effectively become a test server for consoles. We'll get all the patches first, then hunt down bugs so they can be fixed for consoles (which are both more expensive and more time consuming to patch).

Why unlikely? Money comes from box sales, subs and cash shop sales. The first source is unsustainable (and by the way compels developers to focus on people that do not play but might buy a box rather than people that play but won't buy a box, because they do not need two). As for the latter two, unless ZOS tightens the screws and makes continuous spending on subs/in cash shop de facto mandatory (that is through more pronounced P2W elements), neither of these sources (or combined) strike me as more than pocket money.
Not that it will be any different on consoles a few months after launch. In the most extreme case, ZOS could launch on consoles, grab money from box sales and then just fold.

Depends, the game sorely lacks any variety. Questing is great, dungeons and raids are great, but doing those day in, day out, gets tedious. Until they add in some new mechanics (more like the justice system - housing etc) the replayability is quite low. Less treadmill, more variety ftw

It's not like they're just gonna stop adding anything to PC once the consoles are out. Sure, they're taking a lot of dev time away from PC updates now, and sure there'll be a lot of console specific fixes once they roll out there to get it stable, but what else would you expect? Being able to sell the game on multiple platforms will bring in a lot more revenue than any PC update, no matter how big, ever could. The same would be said were the situations switched around.

Every further PC update added before consoles do get released would only push consoles back further. Once it's out, the updates can be made across platforms at the same time - not while consoles are still being made to work in the first place. It might be slower than the average seen at the beginning of the game, before they went into the whole console path though, due to having three platforms to work with, but, perhaps not necessarily, maybe the extra revenue could mean they hire more? I dunno.

It's a shame to us PC players for now, but hang in there if there's still something keeping you playing, or hang back until it does get there and you find something to come back for, your choice. The big heads in businesses always gotta think money-minded to stay afloat. They get hated for it of course, it's natural, but it's a necessary evil. Just remember the people making those decisions usually aren't the same ones actually making the content, they're just the ones who sign their paychecks, and therefore tell them what to prioritize. 'Tis life.

Besides, there'll be a lot of happy console players who would otherwise have not played the game when it does get released for consoles, can you begrudge them that?

Playing this on PC is probably the best experiences your going to get, unless you have a older setup. I played Skyrim on Xbox360 last year, man it was horrible. My PC look really great and almost realistic it can get as well this ESO.

Depending on setups and yes it would cost more for PC hardware if you want better graphics, console can be for any setups and VR headsets would be cool too.

After looking at these console units, they are poorly design and lack of protection, not mention that the users need to be well cool areas and dust free if possible.

    Is PC being abandoned?

PC was abandoned over 9 months ago when they started working on Console.

Only reason we saw any updates to game mechanics (Champion System, Justice, Crown Shop) is that they needed to have those in for Console.

Fact is, it's been all about the console for about 9 months and they could care less about the state of the game for PC players who had been subbing.

I guess $$$$ > Making a good game and fulfilling what was promised at launch. Typical corporate thinking.

Have you purchased your Ad Hominem costume in the Crown Store yet?

Businesses have failed for far fewer grievances, and sometimes none at all. Sometimes things just don't work out. Sometimes the same mistake is made one too many times. All it really takes is a few suits to pull the plug for any reason they want. Sort of like at-will firing, but with more DPS.

I'm not comparing ESO to anything else, because that would be a faulty comparison. The managerial, marketing, and strategic choices this game development team have made do not speak well for longevity.

They've bought themselves a year a year of Figure-Things-Out time with the console release. But by June of 2016 we're going to know for sure whether this production is floating upward or spiraling downward.

There's no sense in being worried. Whether consoles will be good or bad for the game, worrying will have absolutely no effect on it. People have been worried about the game since day 1. Its still here.

I believe there are plenty of us not transferring to console, PC players play PC. The people who are transferring (for the most part) are console players. They only got the game on PC while they were waiting this ridiculous amount of time for it to come out on the platform they prefer.
