Should I be worried about ESO for PC

tylerdavidsonb14_ESO
So I have been playing ESO off and on (mostly on) since Beta. What with them going to consoles now AND the fact that subscribing doesn't make much sense....should I be worried about still being a PC player? Is PC being abandoned? Do I need to go find a new game?

Unknown. Many may say yes, but we have no idea how console sales will go.
If the game sells extremely well on console it will likely become their main priority.
  • squidgod2000b14_ESO
PC will effectively become a test server for consoles. We'll get all the patches first, then hunt down bugs so they can be fixed for consoles (which are both more expensive and more time consuming to patch).

I am not worried, I will continue to play until see them doing things even more strange than putting us on hold until consoles release, if pc is not making them any money and consoles are booming, and they close the pc mega server oh well had fun while it lasted, but I would have a hard time trusting them ever in the future if they did another pc project. /shrug

I don't own a console yet they are still to limited for my liking, maybe a couple more generations.

I did not know people are leaving PC to go to consoles because they feel abandoned. I am leaving PC because I wanted to actually play the console version not the pc version but you know that got push back a year.

How about don't worry about all this nonsense. Yes, there are those who speculate PC was the test market for the dirty little consoles. Here are the main things that bother me about pending console release:
    • No text chat support
    • VR grind still exists
    • Extreme performance issues on PC still -- console will be no exception

yeah im not worried either... I still cant imagine the console version being around for the long term... im sure people will say it works but I just cant imagine playing an mmo on a console for multiple years... but maybe that's just me...

in the end, the console money will help the company and hopefully the game as a whole (for PC and console)

I think people will play it of course, but I'm not even tempted by it.

This game will last a month or two before console users realize pc players were allowed to transfer over with a year headstart. I can't wait for the forums when console hits complaining about pvp. More excited for that than the game

Like most things, the console version will ruin the PC version. It already has in my opinion, just from the shift in focus.

People are always freaking out over everything around here. But I would say don't worry. If the consoles sales do well, it will only help ensure the long-term viability of the game as a whole. If they do poorly, then ZOS will probably just focus more attention on the PC version. Either way, the PC version isn't likely going away anytime soon. Unless the console version really tanks and ZOS has already determined that the PC version is bleeding money (both of which seem pretty unlikely), then ESO will be here for a long time to come.

    Don't worry, be happy, man!

sorry, but it never happened before.

give me ONE major game example that does this: console revenue boosts PC development. any genre. any time.

100% of the time that i'm aware of (i'm not Akatosh though, i could be wrong), console revenue goes to console DLC/exclusive/content... while gets..... "oh, now THIS part we can just half-ass port it. let's throw them a bone."

Something tells me that the main source of revenue for console release will be box sales. I just have that feeling deep down that consolers will be pretty pissed when they start experiencing the issues the game has; not just technical, but developmental issues as well. I don't see a majority of children subbing/blowing money on Crowns like PC users do.

The game is now free, so whatever happens will happen. People shouldn't worry so much about something that's free and not really of any importance in life. Sure its a fun game, but there are more serious things in our society that need our attention right now.

I am sure ZOS will do their best to keep stuff going, the people working at this company are all decent fellows, give them some rest with the doomsday stuff.

GTA V. Console versions came first, did well, and helped make the later PC version even better.

While all of this is true, I am just concerned with whether I should keep playing this game or go back to Swtor. But when I decide on my permanent fix for Baltimore, the economy, Isis, etc, I shall let you know.

    Eh, don't worry, dude.

The console and PC game will be largely the same. Same world, same game.

There will always be variations in platforms, and tradeoffs with those variations. Console gets voice chat that PC may not, but PC gets text chat and add ons.

First of all, Pc is the master race. Second, I'm pretty sure that players will not be able to transfer there characters from the Pc server to the consoles server. So even if Pc users do consider switching from Pc to console, the thought of starting from scratch just sounds absolutely abysmal.

That is true after today, but folks Who fit the criteria were able to transfer if they chose. I got both the XB1 and PS4 transfer and i don't even have the consoles yet,,,, but being was a 1 time thing,,, what the heck. They will be there if and when I get ready to play with friends that only have Console as an option

If only somebody on the team would have had the balls to say, "Look. This needs a lot more work. Let's fight to delay the PC release at least a year so we can release a great game on every platform instead of one on PC now that feels just average."

Or maybe somebody did and the Bosmers on the team ate him shortly before they set up their "Positive Feedback Only Or STFU" stance on the beta forums and in the beta surveys. The beta surveys were ridiculous. I never filled them out because nothing in those surveys would ever amount to making a better game.

The game's always been allergic to negative feedback, and it's only going to be a few more weeks until they realize that they can't hide from negative feedback on console, either. And then it will still be all our faults because the devs can't possibly be wrong. Corporate indoctrination: If people don't love it, there's something wrong with the people. Maybe they're just stupid or something.

Yeah, I'm worried about the PC version. I'm worried about all the versions. Because everybody working on it will put this game on their list of experience when it's pretty obvious that nobody's learned anything from it that will benefit a future product.

+1. This comment will likely be deleted.

I agree. The lack of meaningful dev response during beta is why i didn't buy the game until recently. And yet I come here and find that not only have the devs ignored the overwhelming amount of feedback this community provides, but they're actively trying to hide it all behind cash store cosmetics and empty, months-old promises. 1.6 was a great start, but it really circumvented and reversed a lot of issues.

This game had every advantage a dev could ask for. A library of existing lore and story to draw on, a ravenously hungry fanbase of millions of hardcore and casual players, a budget the size of a small country's GDP, and a growing MMO market just waiting for something new. it's not too late to revive this thing (follow FF14's example), but you cant go this long without some transparency before ppl assume you've given up.
