Thanks everyone, so much good information and things to think about - that I had not considered before.

BUllet points I gathered were

    • Will be quite a while yet before we see this, if we see it
    • Would have to consider how it affects PVP and PVE together
    • Shame I started playing again full time now, and not later this year - hopefully I do not reach VR14 several times over before the remove it!! Maybe I should wait!
    • Hoping with removal/change to VR that we get new open world and dungeon content as alliance restrictions removed for PVE.

LOL If you think they will remove vet ranks you are so mistaken. 80% of teso's community are vet 12-14 ranks and they struggled just like me to make it there. We will never allow it. Plus as one guy said , 60% of the story will go wasted. What they gonna do is tweak vet ranks something like 80-90 level cap

Tell that to SWG Jedis after NGE....

That would be the NGE that destroyed SWG and is considered a byword in the gaming community now, [/sarcasm on] ya that's a a great idea let's follow that model o.O [/sarcasm off]

I have to laugh every time I see a post like this on VR. Anyone who thinks ZEN is gonna remove VR and not put some other progression in place that will still require a comparable investment of time to achieve the same level of progression is just plain silly.

Sure VR may go away but the required investment of time to achieve progression will not, so keep asking for this "change in name only" change, I would bet real money it is not going to give what most think it will.

Face it the investment in time is not going away to progress, but sure have your non-change-change, i do not care what they call the progression system.

Hmm so you're thinking they're gonna remove VR and adjust the champion system to keep VR elements?
I think most are OK with that, but not O K with having both VR and champion levels. Champion levels seems like the right direction

Honestly, we shouldn't have to 'think' anything. They never should have let it go this long without addressing the current problems with XP and/or telling us the high-level plan for removing vet levels. They honestly can't be afraid of telling us one thing and then changing their mind, as it happened quite often since beta on fairly heavy-hitting topics. I don't know why they allow all of the misinformation and assumptions we come up with to persist.

But hey, we have new cosmetic stuff in the CS this week.

I am most concerned with how they intend to do it with armour/weapons... I can see the outcry if v14 weapons/armour that people have used a lot of resources on crafting, suddenly became unusable...

That is what I am afraid of, hopefully it will not go that direction.

Vet 14 gear was going to eventually be made less useful anyway. I've said it here on the forums before, and I've said it on other games as well, I'm not really a big fan of 'gear' as such in most MMO's. I really like it to be consumable equipment and nothing more. That being said, they had talked about higher vet ranked gear in Orsinium/Wrothgar Mountains as well as Black Marsh. Knowing that, its pretty easy to extrapolate that gear will always have a progression in this game, and we will always be chasing the next greatest thing. That's not really what drives me in these games, but apparently that's the psychology behind what drives most people (unfortunately). It would be nice though if they went more of a SWG route. Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent here, the main point of what I'm saying is that we the player shouldn't be surprised with a 'gear progression' in the game. Its the psychological headgame that a lot of themepark MMO's use to keep us invested. I don't think its the best arrow in their quiver, but its the one most of them use, so it is what it is. Don't get too bent out of shape about it.

@Skwor is right :) And TBH lvl progression in this game is super easy, if they would remove vr ranks u could get to endgame content in few days, so i think this is not the way ZoS wants.
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

Well we can't act like they didn't say...now a few times that it'll be a phased approach and that the champion system was phase 3 or so. They said the justice system was coming too and it's here. They said that from April to June they would put a huge focus on console launch and they said they problably won't be done until at earliest summer so it's on track.

No "have to think" if people just review the Nivember - current Twitch lives from ZOS.
The problem is people rely heavily on gossip and uninformed media sites and articles instead of taking info from the developer.

Vet ranks are going to be in the game at console launch.
Not smart, console players wknt appreciate a roll back.

All of the conplaints and ideas seen here have been around since launch, just about. The game received little critical praise and less sales revenue. A new direction was necessary. And the removal of the subscription paywall gave a boost in sales to fund further development. In fact, the most disappointing thing is how much HASNT changed since launch.

And are there any details specifically about cross alliance restrictions being removed for PVE content?

Well from a marketing standpoint start at 2:16 in this video from their Twitter page about console

Pretty much says the adventure starts at level 50!!! When the Champion system begins
There is no mention of the VR levels so it's pretty much not going to be around much longer if this is the marketing commercial for consoles June 9th launch

    http://youtu.be/JYxYvQ8ieq4

Or they are just going to keep that little secret locked up until release. ;)

Yeah but that would only hurt their possible success. It'd be good to remove VR in June

Ofc it's a bad move, but has that stopped <insert AAA PC or console game company here> from doing it before? One would logically assume that if VR were to be removed on console launch, it would have been mentioned by now.

I don't think they'll ever actually remove them, or if they do they'll just replace them with a system that does the exact same thing (just with a name change, i.e. changing VET1-14 into levels 50-64). I don't think they have any idea how to go about replacing the Vet system in a way that works and won't anger every existing Vet player. And I think if they were really serious about removing them they would have done it before the console release.

They'll keep saying they're going to get rid of it, to save face. But either they'll keep stalling or when they do "remove" them, it will just be in name only.

Well the 5/7 video on this site advertising console doesn't mention VR levels but does highlight champion levels.

While we don't know what changes will occur it's hardly a roll back.
It's more like a bump up cause all characters benefit from champion levels.

And it would only seem appropriate to keep the skills and stats on VR characters. Maybe non VR14 will earn stats by champion levels so if one chat earns 14 champion levels then they get 14 skill and stat increases while the other specific character would also need to get 14 unique champion levels for theirs. Seems logical but we will just have to wait and see

Actually what is just plain silly is to think that ZOS will not make the worst possible decision on every possible game related issue. It is what they do. I am expecting a very unsatisfying direct removal of the VR system .It is the worst possible decision they can make and they will make it.

Bit too late for that isn't it?

If ZoS is concerned at all about the state of the game, then here's what stops the hemorrhaging :
    • Remove the PVE alliance restrictions - lets let people play together.
    • All current public dungeons/caves to be made solo/invite only (group)
    • An instancing system (you choose to play solo/invite only (group) /public - reference Warframe's system that does this)
    • A lot more dungeons, new and unique with clever puzzles like GW2 has (and these are not public shared dungeons)
    • Mob/npc grind spots. I'd love to spend a few hours just camping mobs and getting to meet people while we play, gather experience, practices our skills and earn xp/loot. I'm really tired of quest grind and dungeon finder MMOs that are completely anonymous, faceless and require no sense of accountability or notoriety.
    • Slow down the experience gain across the board, I shouldn't be nearly level 30 in Deeshan
    • A trade chat channel - I feel people's pain when you put out five paragraphs of recipe links.
    • A way to link people your sales in your guild stores. I say 'buy my recipes, h|h| LINK |h|h|" and it shows you what I have for sale.

I get this nasty feeling that the Champion/Veteran system is premature. And by that I mean that such a system seems to solidify that the 'end game' is the END GAME - e.g. no more content for adventuring (which is a considerable disaster given the TES influence..).

Removing it would allow them to expand the game. And if it screws up the lore, well too bad. I think we're at the point where we don't follow MMO stories because they are either too boring or we are a part of the ADHD generation that wants to breeze through every thing, as we have this expectation that levelling is a means to an end[game].

ESO was supposed to be the MMO that put 'journey' back in the phrase 'it's about the journey, not the destination.'
