Do you guys even check these bot reports? This guy has been in the same place for about 24 hours just looping the same spot over and over.

Seriously, get rid of this guy already.

You probably reported him on Saturday and today is Sunday. Both of those days are the weekend. Also, how do you know it is a botter?

There are a few places with a bunch of mobs that I loop around when I feel like grinding champion points. I have a pretty specific route and skill rotation that could make me look like a bot. I haven't been doing it much lately though since it is taking a toll on my sanity. Seriously. If they just add more content players wouldn't feel the need to grind/bot.

You do realize that it takes time to investigate player reports, don't you? You do realize the sheer number of reports (not just player reports) that ZOS receives on a daily basis, right?

Investigating a report of player misconduct generally does not takes a few hours, or even 24 hours. Even once the the investigation is complete, and lets say that the investigation DOES reveal that the aforementioned account is a bot, or using 3rd party programs, or has been hacked, do you honestly think that account is immediately banned? No, it's not.

Banning of accounts usually comes in 'waves'. Meaning, over the course of a days, weeks, and even months, multiple accounts are investigated throroughly and the offending accounts are added to a list. When that list is significantly large enough, hundreds or even thousands of accounts are banned/deleted all at once, along with the possibility of IP bans.

One of the main reasons this is done is so that if one 'entity' owns many accounts, all of them can be banned at once, along with a range of IP addresses, ensuring that the offending 'entity' is removed completely. Another reason is the legal aspect of doing all this.

If one account is banned in a singular manner and the rest of the controlled account or 'linked' accounts are not found, you've effectively alerted the user that you are on to their shenanigans, giving them the opportunity of cease their 'unwanted' or 'illicit' activities, thus spoiling the investigation.

Yes it IS a good thing to report players you suspect of botting or cheating or exploiting, but do not expect that account to be removed immediately. These things take time so do not get discouraged.

I think ZOS does a fantastic job with eliminating bots. I remember in the beginning they were even handling them directly as they were spotted. You could /t a gm who showed up, observed and annihilated the bot! It was awesome.

I reported a bot yesterday, just because they were being so stupid about it. If you are going to bot, you need to make like the other players. When you do crazy and stupid things, you deserve to get caught and banned. I will go back and look for him next week. If he is still there, I will report him again. This is the first time I have reported a bot in a very long time. Interesting new interface option, but I actually don't know if it got reported or not. It took note of the player and character name, so we will see if they get away with it.

P.S. No, I am not saying what they were doing that was stupid.

What @Siliconhobbit_ESO said. Every report needs to be investigated, for all the aforementioned reasons, and to keep 'false positives' to a minimum. Falsely accusing a player for shenanigans can, after all, happen accidentally, or deliberately (not recommended, it falls back on the reporting party and may result in a ban for harassment).

I could have never worded it better myself.

I still have yet to play the game, but I want to. The fact that my PC's lights went out permanently is what's holding me back.

As for botters, I DETEST bots with the burning passion of the surface of Venus. Venusian surfaces exceed 900 degrees.

If you were botting, which you are implying you would be since you would therefor be reportable. Then yes, you would and it would be just.

I know what a botter looks like, I know how bots work. This guy was in one corner of the zone, away from traffic. He was walking a very specific loop, his character was not stopping or turning like normal ppl, only stopping at specific points, and did not acknowledge my being there or respond when i spoke. He looped this area in the EXACT same route for 15 mins while i was there. When i returned the next day he was in the same place, doing the same loops.

and? if he doing it by macro - it cannot be detectable
because macros have no difference behavoiur from players
yes they can do it in stupid way
but developers cannot detect who push the buttons on your mouse and keyboard - human or macro
i know what im talking about, im software developer

@Siliconhobbit_ESO summed it up pretty well. You have no way of knowing if someone is botting simply by watching their actions for a bit. I regularly make rounds in Bleakrock for runes/herbs and have a specific circuit I follow. Any passing player might think I was a bot, but it would be clear from information only available on the game's backend that I'm actually not a bot at all.

Don't assume you know what someone is up to unless it's blatantly obvious (like how gold sellers spammed the chat when the game first launched). Otherwise yes, report it to be on the safe side, but then move on and let the devs figure out if that person is actually worthy of getting further action taken against them.

Lol you guys are funny, most combat bots are so blatantly obvious.

A typical pattern for a templar bot:

    1. Critical charge the closest mob
    2. Use biting jabs over and over until it dies
    3. When it dies stand there in the same spot for 5-20 seconds (I assume this has a purpose, maybe it takes time to acquire another target or something)
    4. Repeat for hours and hours without going to sell or repair

Bots that harvest nodes are probably a lot more difficult to tell, but not so with the combat ones.

lol, my stam templar just got to Gold, I despise questing (at this stage of repeat) and blow through as fast as possible.....but 1 & 2 is exactly what I'm doing while blowing through solo, then repentance and loot if possible and move on

    :o I did not know I'm a bot :s
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

so because someone is in a cyrodiil delve, they would be a bot?

because someone was gathering mats, they would be a bot?

because someone was RPing, they would be a bot?

    :(

    your logic escapes me.

Pffftttt... sometimes people do behave similar to bots for a bit. Doing it over and over and over in a mindless manner, that#s that makes a bot. Going to spawn spots that already are harvested and standing there trying to automatically harvest something that isn't there for example. Or the mentioned "waiting for the script to run its course" after a fight. Or in other ways not reacting to their environment.

Easy enough to check in most instances, just whisper them and talk. Or watch, even if someone was unwilling to reply for some reason, they'd still be extremely likely to change their behavoir as soon as they notice someone asking "you're not a bot, are you?"
    :o I did not know I'm a bot :s
...and that's the main thing. As long as you can tell us stuff in an non-canned-message-manner, use sarcasm, react to peoples talk... any rumours of your bo-tishness would be widely exaggerated! ;)
