Hey hey @Delsai
First of all you need to understand than The Elder Scrolls Online is not your typical MMO. Its not like World of Warcraft, Rift, Aion, Tera Online and so for.
The Elder Scroll Online is a universe. A world. Let yourself slip into it. Forget about MMO mechanism. Forget about what you are used to do. Forget all of it.
Just play the game. Travel. Explore. Read the books you find. Admire the landscape. Speak to the characters. Take the time to live in the world. As you do this, you will cross quest on your way. Dungeons. Treasure chest. Adventures.
This game is not about leveling. This game is about getting yourself immersed in a universe rich in stories, in a mythology, in adventures. You will gain the level as you are living the game. Yes its slow. But we would not want it too be to fast would we? We would not have the time to enjoy all stories this game offer if we were to level too fast.
Now, maybe this game is not for you. Maybe you made a mistake. Maybe its not the kind of games you enjoy. Or maybe...you need to discover it. The proper way.
I suggest you to watch this video that I've created for new players and where I try to share my vision and my experience of The Elder Scrolls Online. I could not explain any better. Not everyone is playing the game the way I do. But everyone that play the game the way I do, they truly LOVE it and ENJOY it.
Hiya, before I begin please understand I am not gonna knock on the game but I am as of right now regret subscribing and feeling a bit frustrated.
1.) I don't get the questing in this game. No idea where to start when I logged in and had to find add-ons to help what the game should of done by leading me to the next quest hub or even where to begin. Very intimidating and hugely disappointing when I am trying to try a elder scroll genre for the first time. 5 days in and I have only reached level 14 and confused to hell where to go. The add-ons where not accurate and when I found a suspected quest hub the data was off. I have never played a MMO that has such a basic function such as this be in such a mess.
4.) PATRON REWARDS! That 10% bonus and that handful of crowns I got did no justice in my decision to continue my subscription. Trion has you beat on all aspects of this bonus. It's not a charity it's a service I am paying for. It's a option that has absolutely not appeal for me to continue when I will buy the packs with crowns if I deem it worth my money for future content releases.

2.) Holy crap does it seem to take a while to level. I understand that there is no need to rush but the quest and dungeons I have found have such small rewards for time spent. Time sink and absolutely nothing to show for it. The bosses I found where enjoyable though.
3.) Chat channels, add-on fixed this but chat channels where something I had to get use too. Guess I'm spoiled on color coded and the basic [General/Trade/Guild/Party/Whispers]. Just a personal preference but I didn't know where to ask for advice. I found [Zone] was the best to use.
4.) Party system. I heard there will be a group function on console why not PC? I have not seen a single LFG in my level range. I went to a dungeon entrance and it was empty. I have played MMO's since FFXI back when it first released. I was glad group finder has been added in almost all the games I played. Knock it if you wish but it works.

FFXI was also my first MMO. Talk about tossing you blindfolded into the woods with no compass half naked. That game had it in spades. I cannot imagine how you came from FFXI and think that this game isnt candyland in comparison. Remember FFXI? go in a direction and kill stuff ffs. If you dont find a quest almost every 30 to 40 steps idk what game you are playing.
Everything you ask for is in the game and available (without add ons mind you) except maybe #1 but i fall back to my original statement that if you walk 30 steps and dont see a triangle above somebody's head idk what to tell you. Everything else is available with in the options section.
Seriously bro how long did you play FFXI? cause man your skin should be way thicker then this post.

You do not need all the crap on the screen that the other MMO's have and I have played a lot of them including GW2 that you mentioned. All you need is your compass and your journal just like a old fashioned RPG and just explore. You will come across quests and explore everything. If you have never played a Elder Scrolls game then you might not get this style of play.
It isnt behind the other MMO's I love how they designed it and the lack of hand holding for finding what I need to do. It is up to me to find what is out there. Use your mouse and fingers and run around and actually look for things. Instead of having the game point it out to you..in other words..play the game.
I agree they have had problems, but only from the bots at start then bugs that have plagued the game. Yet it still has a strong following and don't think the game will fail. PC/MAC may take a strong hit but console is going to go gang busters imo. I say strong hit because a lot may very well be going from PC/MAC to console. Also I also believe after June 9th we could very well see an update that may very well amaze us. So am holding out hope for that.

That's all I have right now. As a new player I will be honest and straight to the point. Catch up with the rest of the MMO market because what I see here is way behind in a market flooded with top notch MMO's. Show me as a new consumer that you are willing to stand out and improve on this product.
Perfectly, because exploration is what we enjoy the most about the Elder Scrolls games. If the game was the way you want it, it wouldn't be interesting to me. I don't want to be led by hand - I'd actually prefer ESO to be less hand-holdy than it already is. It isn't outdated design, it's simply different. Maybe not your cup of tea, but well, it happens.
