Hiya, before I begin please understand I am not gonna knock on the game but I am as of right now regret subscribing and feeling a bit frustrated.

1.) I don't get the questing in this game. No idea where to start when I logged in and had to find add-ons to help what the game should of done by leading me to the next quest hub or even where to begin. Very intimidating and hugely disappointing when I am trying to try a elder scroll genre for the first time. 5 days in and I have only reached level 14 and confused to hell where to go. The add-ons where not accurate and when I found a suspected quest hub the data was off. I have never played a MMO that has such a basic function such as this be in such a mess.

2.) Holy crap does it seem to take a while to level. I understand that there is no need to rush but the quest and dungeons I have found have such small rewards for time spent. Time sink and absolutely nothing to show for it. The bosses I found where enjoyable though.

3.) Chat channels, add-on fixed this but chat channels where something I had to get use too. Guess I'm spoiled on color coded and the basic [General/Trade/Guild/Party/Whispers]. Just a personal preference but I didn't know where to ask for advice. I found [Zone] was the best to use.

4.) Party system. I heard there will be a group function on console why not PC? I have not seen a single LFG in my level range. I went to a dungeon entrance and it was empty. I have played MMO's since FFXI back when it first released. I was glad group finder has been added in almost all the games I played. Knock it if you wish but it works.

4.) PATRON REWARDS! That 10% bonus and that handful of crowns I got did no justice in my decision to continue my subscription. Trion has you beat on all aspects of this bonus. It's not a charity it's a service I am paying for. It's a option that has absolutely not appeal for me to continue when I will buy the packs with crowns if I deem it worth my money for future content releases.

That's all I have right now. As a new player I will be honest and straight to the point. Catch up with the rest of the MMO market because what I see here is way behind in a market flooded with top notch MMO's. Show me as a new consumer that you are willing to stand out and improve on this product.

    Hey hey @Delsai

    First of all you need to understand than The Elder Scrolls Online is not your typical MMO. Its not like World of Warcraft, Rift, Aion, Tera Online and so for.

    The Elder Scroll Online is a universe. A world. Let yourself slip into it. Forget about MMO mechanism. Forget about what you are used to do. Forget all of it.
    Just play the game. Travel. Explore. Read the books you find. Admire the landscape. Speak to the characters. Take the time to live in the world. As you do this, you will cross quest on your way. Dungeons. Treasure chest. Adventures.

    This game is not about leveling. This game is about getting yourself immersed in a universe rich in stories, in a mythology, in adventures. You will gain the level as you are living the game. Yes its slow. But we would not want it too be to fast would we? We would not have the time to enjoy all stories this game offer if we were to level too fast.

    Now, maybe this game is not for you. Maybe you made a mistake. Maybe its not the kind of games you enjoy. Or maybe...you need to discover it. The proper way.

    I suggest you to watch this video that I've created for new players and where I try to share my vision and my experience of The Elder Scrolls Online. I could not explain any better. Not everyone is playing the game the way I do. But everyone that play the game the way I do, they truly LOVE it and ENJOY it.

    1. Questing is straight forward and simple. There really is no progression of quests or "hubs" they are everywhere just explore and grab them.
    2. Wait to complain about leveling speed when you get to Vet ranks. It's murder.
    3. Party system is very ... Meh.
    4. ESO+ is new, give them time to add content and sweeten the deal. Until then it's just a matter of whether you want to support the game.

    I find it interesting that you open by saying you're not going to knock the game, then close by doing exactly that. If you really are that new of a player then you really don't have enough experience with the game to make that kind of judgment.

    The main quest guides you from point to point in any given zone. Along the way you'll encounter a lot of side quests. This being said, the idea is to explore the whole map.
    If you really are having trouble, you can download addon's like 'destinations'. Everyone goes through the same experience if not using addon's.
    As for the LFG, it has never worked.
    Leveling is not a race. Although some players get through the ranks very quickly. Then you get "what do I do now?""

    What type of rewards are you seeking?

    As mentioned above, tis game is not 100% cookie cutter like some mmos. there are no "go here for these quests" on the map. You find them by running around and paying attention to the mob levels. As for your complaint about the "lack" of ESO+ benefits, i can see where someone would think they are minor. But they are actually quite nice, SWTOR does the same thing though they also unlock limitations placed in the game. ESO does not strip any core features from their game for free members, ESO+ members will be getting all the "DLC" for free when they star coming out though.

    uhhh agree to disagree, i play very differently and love the game and enjoy it for the most part. thats why im so critical and passionate about the game.

    great suggestions for people who enjoy that play style, but the game is an mmo, and suffers from several missing features.

    @Dragonchylde Not my intent but the frustration did get the best of me.

    As for everyone else thank you for responding. GW2 had progression paths which is also a B2P based game. The questing and exploring was fluid and more natural as you explored the world around you. ESO has missing basic features and seems a bit behind.

    You have it right on loading screen every once in a while: just go any direction. Unless they broke something in recent months, quest-giving NPCs are marked on compass when you get near. Besides, as you approach area where a quest takes place, NPCs often load on the edge regardless of direction you are coming from. Super hard to miss them.

    You must understand that ZOS has just started with P2W business and is preoccupied with launch on consoles. I am sure that as soon as they cash in boxes there they'll augment their little shop/subs with some more blatantly P2W items/bonuses so even challenged people will be able to buy their way through ESO's otherwise remarkably foolproof content effortlessly. After all, you are patron for 5 days. Days!!! You definitely deserve better level than 14.

    What Elloa has said is true. The questing in Elder Scrolls is different from many other games and it is definitely worth it to wander. The main quest will guide the player more than most of the other quests, but a fair number of quests are just out in the middle of nowhere. Watch for the triangles on the compass. They can point you in the right direction, both for finding quests and for advancing them. I have never used add-ons for questing and I have no idea how accurate they are, but they may be part of your problem. When the information is inaccurate, it can only add to frustration.

    I am the last person who should be commenting on leveling, having characters that have been in the game since the first day that are still not max level in anything.

    That said, the key to leveling is questing, and that requires more than just the main quest and the major zone quests. It is easier when you are out just exploring and finding and taking quests as you come across them.

    Edit: One tip is to kill all the monsters. Go out of your way. :smile: Small amounts of monster XP do add up.

    Zone is a good place to ask for help. If you join a guild that is often a good place to ask, as well. Since you have 5 guilds you can be a member of, do not hesitate to join a guild that offers to help players. As in zone chat in a major city and you will find a guild.

    There is a group system on the PC version, too! Not only can you group with people you know for whatever purpose, but they do have a search function to locate people for dungeons (LFG). It is on the Group tab. Press P to open it up.

    You can also use zone chat to ask if anyone wants to join a group for a particular dungeon.

    The ESO Plus is for the people who want to use a subscription to get Crowns, the XP bonus, and access to DLC without buying them separately. They do not position the ESO Plus as a premium membership with a lot of perks. It is marginally better than not being a member. They might add some perks in the future, but for right now as a new player, the XP perk will help you with leveling.

    Don't agree, I found ESO very easy in regards to a progressive path, in fact a little too easy and this was at launch when the game was harder.
    Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

    I find it EXTREMELY shocking and somewhat appalling that we are cut from the same cloth. FFXI was also my first MMO. Talk about tossing you blindfolded into the woods with no compass half naked. That game had it in spades. I cannot imagine how you came from FFXI and think that this game isnt candyland in comparison. Remember FFXI? go in a direction and kill stuff ffs. If you dont find a quest almost every 30 to 40 steps idk what game you are playing.

    As for your 1-4 list of grievances perhaps you need a new scrip for your glasses. Christ everything you ask for is in the game and available (without add ons mind you) except maybe #1 but i fall back to my original statement that if you walk 30 steps and dont see a triangle above somebody's head idkwtf to tell you uninstall. Everything else is available with in the options section.

    Seriously bro how long did you play FFXI? cause man your skin should be way thicker then this post.

    This should help with the addons

    http://minion.mmoui.com/ open it once a day as it will update your addons and help you find what you are looking for.

    About the chat channels, you can change the color of each chat to any color you want. Its in the settings.

    My best advice is to find a guild. Any that advertise in zone chat might be able to help you find out were you might have left the path on questing. There may be a bunch of nuts on the tree but there are many branches you have yet to stand on to have a good picture of Tamriel and Oblivion.

    This game is full of huge fans of Elder Scrolls and have been for a very long time. Most of us will be very willing to help in game and on the forums.

    Since release and boy did I put my time in FFXI. What was the norm today is what was learned over the years. ESO in some aspects is bit outdated. Granted, I have been spoiled by the *gasp* WoW since I played it for about 11 years and honestly I'm not afraid to admit I have gone casual.

    @Theosis Thank you very much for the link. I will review that in a bit. Also, thank you kindly for the advice.

    I never had a problem with the game and I started from Beta. You do not need all the crap on the screen that the other MMO's have and I have played a lot of them including GW2 that you mentioned. All you need is your compass and your journal just like a old fashioned RPG and just explore. You will come across quests and explore everything. If you have never played a Elder Scrolls game then you might not get this style of play.

    It isnt behind the other MMO's I love how they designed it and the lack of hand holding for finding what I need to do. It is up to me to find what is out there. Use your mouse and fingers and run around and actually look for things. Instead of having the game point it out to you..in other words..play the game.

    I agree they have had problems, but only from the bots at start then bugs that have plagued the game. Yet it still has a strong following and don't think the game will fail. PC/MAC may take a strong hit but console is going to go gang busters imo. I say strong hit because a lot may very well be going from PC/MAC to console.Also I also believe after June 9th we could very well see an update that may very well amaze us. So am holding out hope for that. :smiley:

    I really enjoy the fact that Zos thinks we may want some addons. I enjoy my minimap. I also enjoy my addon that keeps me from accidentally selling my armor I use for something other that what I am doing currently.

    Im not sure if you meant to be playful or not. However their design is meant for us to choose what we want on our interface and just put in the essentials so that we can do as we wish.

    I have been playing a little over 2 months now.

    I have not had any problems regarding questing. Quests will often lead you to others that has new quests.

    I use about 2 weeks to get a toon to level V1, that includes picking every darn flower and log I happen to come by.
    And helping guildies etc.
    Leveling is too fast in my opinion.

    Chat is fine.
    Create your own tabs for whispers, guilds etc. if that is what you want. And change the colour while you are at it.

    Lfg tool is semi okay.

    Now the benefits for being eso+ is 10% of this and that and access to the (soon to come...) dlc's.
    and seeing as I personally have no use of the 10% increase to things, then the only benefit of a eso+ for me would be dlc's.
    Which just happens to not exist at the moment.
    So no subscription from me until they add dlc's.

    1) Just to piggyback and reiterate @Elloa, if you explore the game you will find that quests are not handed to you but they do jump out. Most quests lead to other quests, don't stick to one quest line before starting another; grab a whole bunch of quests and you will find it is like a web rather than a hub. Each zone has a specific story to it that arches the faction story, which in turn leads you to the next zone.
    If you are ever barren on quests, which is hard to do, you can always go to the mages or fighters guilds and do their quest line or fall back onto the main story line.

    2) Leveling by combat grinding will take you ages to get to 50/V1. Your best bet is to quest grind, explore new locals (which you get xp for) while doing combat. When you get this progression down you will hit lvl14 in a matter of a few hours.

    3) You can set up your own chat channels, but yea that one throws people off sometimes.

    4) As stated before PC Group Finder is broken atm. Standing at dungeon entrances won't get you anywhere by itself since there is zone chat. most people will type in /z "LFG" when they want to do dungeon runs. Not the best way, but the best we can do in leu of the system.

    5) The sub also includes access to DLC (whenever it is released). Don't use Trion as an example of the current MMO market though; all of there games are F2P ,you litterally don't even purchase a download, and most have been lackluster. AA is there best one, I will admit is actually pretty good for F2P.

    6) Unsub, play w/o, enjoy! There is a lot this game has to offer, even with some polish needed.

    Every starting zone however should still have a ship ready for you, its just not advertised anymore as far I understand.
    2.) Holy crap does it seem to take a while to level. I understand that there is no need to rush but the quest and dungeons I have found have such small rewards for time spent. Time sink and absolutely nothing to show for it. The bosses I found where enjoyable though.

    If you play for rewards then ESO is the wrong game. This isn't a game that holds your hand all day and spoils you with epics like some other big MMO does. No! At ESO the story is your reward, the interaction with other players.

    Like in every MMO, disabling them is the best and only way to go. The amount of spam will soon kill any immersion, mark my words.

    A group finder is in place, you need to look better ;) It allows you to group for everything, pvp, pve or just casual roleplaying.

    Thank God ESO isn't a P2W game where you must spend real money for things like char slots, additional race options, bank & bag space, entry to pvp or professions, usage of mounts ... I have never understood how people can tell a company "here I am, please milk me, I pay you money for everything you take away from a free gaming experience that you said you would offer". There are many F2P games that ask you every second for additional money, if this is what you want then why not play those? While I don't understand your reasoning behind it, its ok to have that desire, but for me and I am sure the most here at ESO, this isn't what we want.

    I honestly hope that ZOS will never follow Mythic and EA, the worst "F2P" MMO´s I ever played. ESO is the most fair F2P MMO I ever played and I really hope it wont change.
    There are enough companies making so called "F2P" games, where not spending a few hundred extra cripples you in such a way that playing is pointless without investing. I light a candle every evening for ESO´s future and that they never listen to what some here ask for. Seriously, to ask a company to remove the free accessibility is really something :D

    However, if you decide to stay then have fun, the game is great!

    It is like when they were making the game they said lets make it different and throw away this or that on how other games do it. Which is why the game is so much fun, it isn't your typical MMORPG!

    Question I ask is this. How well has that worked for them since it has been released?
    Perfectly, because exploration is what we enjoy the most about the Elder Scrolls games. If the game was the way you want it, it wouldn't be interesting to me. I don't want to be led by hand - I'd actually prefer ESO to be less hand-holdy than it already is. It isn't outdated design, it's simply different. Maybe not your cup of tea, but well, it happens.

    Perhaps you should start with the islands, as we did back in beta. What alliance are you in?

    I agree that ESO+ rewards aren't worth it. It would have been wiser to start with the free version to see if you like the game and decide if you want to subscribe later.

    I do sincerely not understand, how s.o. can not understand the quest-system in ESO. It's pretty much very basic, just that some of the NPCs stand "in the woods".
    BUT the system is pretty much AS all other MMORPGs, there are enough quest givers to find in every major city, EVEN if you don't follow the main story, or do it later, you will find quest-NPCs everywhere, you just have to look at your compass! You've done a quest-series successfully as soon as the symbol on your map changes it's color to white! (there is one quest giver for every "symbol area" on your map (little trees, houses, mountains, this symbols all show a "quest area" with, at least, one quest-npc).

    Maybe this is important for the TE: Look at your compass! :wink:

    Oh, and do not absolutely believe that this game is "so much different" than other MMORPGs. People telling you this maybe blinded by publicity, or the traditional "name" (of the Elder Scrolls games which came before).

    The main problem is, that major parts of ESO are not in multiplayer modus, as the story line quests. Sometimes if feels like a normal role playing game. The game is different in some points, like auction-houses guilds, etc. but NOT SO different. That is my point!!

    As an mmorpg player since 2001 I can tell you that this game is pretty much as ALL mmorpgs which came before it. It just feels "handycapped" (no offense!!) as you get only 6 skills one a hotbar, 4 classes, etc. too choose, the whole trading guild-system, etc.

    If someone would state that ESO is an MMORPG in a wheel chair because of all it's limitations. I'd say he's right ;-) (imo, most console games are very limited, so is ESO)

    Many things (which are important to mmorpg-customers) weren't done successfully in ESO. That is why, after one year, many players have left the game. No matter what people tell you here, since the release of ESO - many guilds did not "survive" the first year. In WoW and other games guilds "lived" much longer than in ESO. But, all-in-all, it was good for the game, as the remaining players founded new guilds which are far more "sustainable".

    Anyways, ESO has it's flaws, like when you want to buy someting in the auction house: You literally have to "go shopping" if you want to compare prices.
    Finding an "article" in ESO will cost you MUCH MORE TIME than doing online shopping, for example. Not only that you have to travel long distances to all the different guild NPCs, you also have to find them! ;) (some guilds change their trading-NPC position due to the system)
    YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST COMPARE PRICES!!

    1.) I don't get the questing in this game. No idea where to start when I logged in ...

    This is intended. You're not supposed to be guided conveniently to all the different quests. You're supposed to look around yourself. Part of the quest is finding it in the first place.
    2.) Holy crap does it seem to take a while to level. ...

    I reckon it's too fast. One thing that bothers me though is that there is such a large gap between lower and higher level characters in terms of power. It turns the game more level and gear dependent rather than skill dependent
    3.) Chat channels, add-on fixed this but chat channels where something I had to get use too. Guess I'm spoiled on color coded and the basic [General/Trade/Guild/Party/Whispers]....

    If you click the cogwheel icon on the chat window you can colour code everything
    4.) Party system. I heard there will be a group function on console why not PC? ...

    It's there, albeit not very functional

    An MMO means Massive Multiplayer Online. Anything outside of exactly that definition is not a standard feature that is necessary in other MMO's.

    First of all, like many have said before me TESO is not your 'typical' MMO. It's not a copy/paste of an already existing MMO.
    ESO is all about immersion and also pushing RPG more to the front then the MMO aspect (You'll also find more RP players here then in most other MMO's).

    I'll try to give you some pointers for better addons but keep in mind that the Addon API is extreamly limited in this game. Many addons are more 'gues gues' because the API simply doesn't give much information.

    1) First of all get AUI (Advanced UI), currently this is an addon still in beta, after first login with this addon you will most likly get some lua errors, go to your addon settings and disable everything except the minimap. This is by far the best addon to provide Minimap and is very accurate.
    Destinations, this addon will show you a lot of things on your map including 'quest hubs' and individual quest locations and where to go to complete them (this will also be shown on the minimap with the previous addon).
    Wykkyd's Quest Tracker, speaks for itself will display a frame with all your quests in.

    2) Again this is a game all about immersion, not really much to do about it (if you are subbed to eso+ you'll get a 10% xp) there will come XP potions in crown store later. Also, by having the addons I just said above your quest completion speed will increase and thus also increase your XP / lvl-ing though will still take a long time.

    3) Not sure what you mean about the chat ... There is party, guild, zone, etc chat??? Besides you can change the color aswel for all channels.

    4) Try to search for a guild. I would love to have a fully working LFG tool but I probably won't really use it much. Guild runs are smoother, the benefit of playing with guildies (friends), and just more fun then to go with randoms who don't say a thing.

    5) It's a bit your own fault tbh. The game is B2P (Buy 2 Play) meaning you would not need to give a single penny for a subscription. So you could at least test the game out before deciding to get a subscription. Keep in mind though, ESO+ gives you an XP boost, you already find lvl-ing very slow so if you stop your sub you will also loose that 10%XP.

    I pre-ordered and played this game back at launch. I stopped after 60 days. My problem was that I got this game as a replacement for WoW, Rift but it simply isn't (I'm still playing WoW) and the game (to me) wasn't worth the subscription. Now that the game has become B2P I returned and treat this as an RPG with other players on my screen.

    These are the add-ons I use to give me much more information on my screen (Combat info, buff display, quest information, etc), this will also break any immersion the game gives you or how the devs want you to play the game. I use these addons because I want to play ESO as an MMO and I don't really care about any immersion. Easiest to get these is to download minion or if you prefere to do it yourself download them from ESOUI.

    AUI - Advanced UI;
    Combat Cloud;
    Destinations;
    Foundry Tactical Combat (I'm only using the buff display of this addon);
    HarvestMap;
    Inventory Grid View;
    Lootdrop;
    LoreBooks;
    SkyShards;
    Wykkyd's Framework;
    Wykkyd's Full Immersion;
    Wykkyd's Quest Tracker.

    Maybe this helps you out, if you are very annoyed and keep getting annoyed while playing then maybe this game is too slow-paced and probably isn't the game for you.

    I enjoy the game but I would not recommend the subscription and the benefits aren't worth the money. 10% bonus to XP and gold etc don't really do anything. You will still be at the same level as someone who is not a member. You will be level 24 as a subscriber and a free player will still be level 24 but only slightly lower on the XP bar. You have 110 XP while he has 100 XP. 10%, haha pointless lol. LEVELING WILL TAKE FOREVER whether you subscribe or not.

    There is no DLC and won't be for a very long time, so this is pointless to be subbed for at this time.

    Crowns can be paid for whenever you need them so this too is pointless as a benefit since you are still essentially paying for crowns each month. So at this this subscribing is not worth it. This is coming from a subscriber.

    All the other stuff the original poster mentioned, I disagree with. I never had a problem with the party system, chat, etc but there are plenty of other annoying bugs and glitches as you will eventually see.

    Get ready for those annoying lockpicking quests that force you to lockpick a house to progress the quest which I have NO interest in. So make sure you have a bunch of lockpicks on you because if you don't you have to ride or teleport all the way back to a vendor to buy lockpicks and then back again to lockpick the door. ANNOYING (¬_¬) Oh, and don't buy costumes from the crown store. They don't work. They will simply disappear and de-equip from your character whenever you go through a door, dungeon or get into a fight.
