Error after patch--Cannot Verify Version??

You can try starting the game directly from eso.exe if nothing else works. It may not work for everyone but it's worth a try.

same problem here, I've even reinstalled the game and nothing.
trying this "The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client\ESO.exe" worked however

The problem is that once you fix it and are able to get a Play button, that doesn't mean that it's permanently fixed. After playing and exiting the game, you may be back to having either and Install or Repair button and the 209 error. That's what keeps happening to me anyway. Here is how I am able to fix it each time very quickly:

    1. Go to Zenimax Online\Launcher folder.
    2. Delete or rename the file: Bethesda.net_Launcher.version
    3. Relaunch the Launcher and it will say Updating (the updating process will create a new Bethesda.net_Launcher.version file)
    4. Play

No need to delete any other .version files of restore them from the recycle bin. Again, it may be broken after playing the game again, but it's a pretty quick fix until they update the launcher with one that isn't broken.

FYI, before stumbling on that fix I reinstalled the entire game twice (including actually uninstalling and deleting all files first) and tried a number of other fixed including deleting all .version files. The above is the quickest way for me to get into the game with the broken launcher.

    ZOS, please fix your launcher!

just go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client right click on the eso.exe and Send to desktop this makes a shortcut to the game on your desktop if the launcher doesn't work just use the shortcut to run game
Saving you or sending you since 2001

If your getting this error you can also launch the game from "Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client\ESO.exe". This launches the game and bypasses the launcher.

I've repaired my client ran the Game Consultant program and I'm still getting Error 209 - PatchManifestError_VersionFail.

That worked heaps better than closing and opening. I hate launchers

Obviously, running ESO.exe directly works, but also won't detect any updates and is not the best idea for the long term.

I was able to repair this but now the error message shows up on exiting to the launcher. It doesn't appear to affect a subsequent login after closing/opening the launcher. Weird.

I tried this, and it's still reinstalling the entire game, from scratch, for the third time.

This here. There are 10 patch servers. Only 5 of them are working. Every time you open the launcher you have a 50% chance of getting a working server. This is why it seems random and comes and goes.

Run the Game Consultant Exe from the Launcher folder, seems to kind of work, if you keep trying with a restart of the ESO Launcher.

Yea, I went home at lunch today expecting to have to re-install as I was running out of options. But it was just working when I turned on my computer, thanks @ZOS_AmeliaR‌ and team for getting this fixed.

Edit - On the off chance you get to read this, just want to make a friendly suggestion to make information like this more visible (such as a separate sticky post, or announcement, etc..). I would much appreciate being able to find game-impacting information readily available instead of having to weed through hundreds of forum threads to find a lone mod-response saying its fixed. Thanks again

Yep, though I'm not getting 209, rather 301 the issue seems closely related. Mine is based in the launcher failing to patch the game to the 4/12 version, even though it is letting me launch. Can't get past login.

When I click repair it gives either a 209 or 206 failed to unzip error. I've done all of the troubleshooting advice on that official 209 error page except for the clean reinstall part. I also tried the host file fix and flushing the DNS cache.

I'm using the eso.exe to launch the game. I'm not going to reinstall the full client. Never ever.

Yes, and that hadn't worked, a full reinstall did solve the problem though.

Still happening here (after latest patch on Apr 27, 2015). It comes and goes, one time I'll open the launcher and it'll be fine, another I'll open it and it'll request a repair. I can only presume this has something to do with a server somewhere being overloaded.

It would be nice if, instead of throwing up a verify error, it could determine that it had trouble connecting to the server to confirm the version. Instead of "Repair," it should give the option to "Retry."

Started again for me today as well. Around the 13th it just stopped and the launcher worked great. Now it's back. I've reopened my CS ticket with no luck so far. The reply was repair, run as admin, reinstall, etc. Been there done that and I am not going down that road again. I think 20 repairs and two reinstalls and one fresh install on another system is enough.
