No text chat means no spammed leetspeak in PvP.

nope, instead you HEAR the person saying it....because that so much better..................

It's according to your settings ... and there's always a mute feature, which is very, very easy to access.

you can ignore people in chat, or just turn chat off, so exactly what is the issue you have with a text chat?

You can ignore chat on PC in Neverwinter, too.

To my great dismay, you can't ignore it on Xbox.

To the real point, on PC the game only supports keyboard chat. This prime function forces players to use this feature, which is standard on PC's, and thus it's something we all rely on. When, or better if, voice chat is every put into the PC, it will be a back-end and only used to a limited degree, and thus when a console convert switches over, they will find the voice system lacking and underused according to how they see it.

In the consoles, the prime function forces players to use voice chat, which is standard on consoles, and thus is something they will rely on. If a keyboard is added, it will see little use by dedicated console gamers, and those PC converts will feel it's a broken function or needs 'buffed'.

DCUO or FF are two examples for PS users, but on Xbox the PC migrants are already complaining about the Neverwinter keyboard chat not being a big enough focus and groups not forming in the traditional way. Traditional console gamers are playing how they know, and converts aren't happy with this focus on voice chat and ignoring the zone chat spam.

The moral of the story? By adding keyboard chat, which is a useful function and I'm not particularly against as long as I have the option to turn it off completely (and the chat box, just like on PC), the developers would be helping split the community further between the PC players and the Console players. By limiting it to voice only, not only are they avoiding the issue of making the text large enough to be read from across the room by players who are not sitting two feet from the TV/Monitor, but they are in essence forcing ALL players to unite and communicate in the same way.

Maybe not the best reasoning, but it's the one I understand.

The voice chat works really, really well. If they do add keyboard chat, I hope they do it through a compantion app on smarphones, or at best, it's off by default (just like voice chat is ON by default). Options are nice. Just don't make us have to have it up because it's definitely not necessary.

This isn't a coop game played with a few friends. This is an MMO where you will be playing with THOUSANDS of other people and no way to interact with them outside of voice chat.

So the streets of Daggerfall will be filled with a bunch of mutes. Every person you see might well not even be there.

You won't be able to ask in zone chat for help with a dolmen or zone boss. You won't be able to even say "hi" or "thanks for the help" or "nice gear". Just thousands of people staring blankly at each other.

No thanks. I hope for the long term health of this game they figure out a way to include chat.

Bad design idea. Isn't it that most console players don't own a headset for it? There are also mute players. There's no way for these ppl to communicate.

There have to be a text chat. Even if its just a basic one.

I'm pretty sure all PS4 owners receive an earpiece with their PS4. But even so, no text chat all ALL is kind of a strange design decision.

Those players are mute anyhow. Because the only thing in Zone chat was 'Dolmen up, need more' or 'Guild such-and-such is a fantastic guild for traders. Includes a bank. join us today.'. The regular chat between people was happening in guild chat, group chat, or on teamspeak.

Want a dolemn run? My suggestion would be to see who's online from your friends list. You could even switch to guild chat and say hello and ask. Maybe use the looking for group for an open world group in your area. Possibly grab your smartphone and hit up a forum. And at the least, go to the Dolmen, turn on area chat, and talk to anyone nearby.

It may be different from what your used to, but it's very much manageable and possible.

He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

Very different for Xbox one users, I guess. Our mic's work great, and since most of our games are multiplayer based, even most of the indy games, it's common practice to use mics to talk in group when your not running solo.

I've used it and it's not the best, but it's serviceable. The point is, every PS4 player has the means to voice-chat. So they don't have the excuse of "most console players don't own a headset"

They said it was at the VERY BOTTOM of their list, so likely never. They have to finish a MASSIVE Amount of stuff they have promised over and over again since before beta before they even THINK About adding something like this.

What else did they promise in beta that we haven't gotten yet? I'm confused on that. Seems like a lot of stuff was 'we're considering it', like a barber shop and whatnot.

Of course we both know how it goes on the forums. If a lowly community rep ever says 'it might be', that makes it a bold-faced legal document, right? Hahaha ... those forum warriors are so funny sometimes, aren't they?

they told us OVER and OVER again and promised they would have Imperial city (you know, the BIG, MAJOR thing they were promoting all throughout beta), the thieves guild, and dark brotherhood (you know, two major guilds that have been in nearly every TES in some way shape or form) right before launch, then they stated during launch, then finally said they would 100%, have it very soon after the launch of the game, at the latest update 3 would have them all..............it has been a YEAR since then.

the same thing happened to the justice system, which was supposed to be released at the same time as the two guilds above, and would have a big PVP aspect to it, with players guards and all.........they then gutted it to its present state.......

I didnt' see any promises. I did see a lot of 'maybes' and 'were working on it' and 'were trying to have it in the same area'. I heard a lot of that marketing mumbo jumbo too on the live streams.

They did say we'd have a justice system, thieves guild and dark brotherhood. But they didn't say when. And we got part of the justice system. And a new zone. And a plethora of bug-fixes, reworking of many of the skill lines, rebalancing of the stamina/magicka attributes, etc.

It's not a lot of content in a year. I ain't gonna argue that. But there were things done. And consoles look damn good, so that's something else.

I'm defintely looking forward to some new guilds. New zones. And plenty of new motiffs, costumes, etc. But I am personally most looking forward to housing. The rest is all fluff.

then you are sadly being the very person ZOS wants, someone who accepts all their desicions and lies so they can get away scot free.

They outright PROMISED these things soon after beta ended, we never got them, a word was never said about them after that by any devs. do you HONESTLY think they would have promoted Imperial city as much if they did not expect it to be in game for a long time?

housing is NOT coming, not for a VERY long time, whether you like it or not, not unless they want to REALLY anger the people who have been waiting patiently since launch for things that were promised

ZoS,Please listen to this,I have been supporting you since the beta,Been giving feedback to the game and overall enjoyed the game,Loving the game. Been excited for the console release,But as soon as i heard there werent any text chat in the console versions i felt so let down,Why? why in oblivion would you do this? This is an MMO for vehks sake,Dont give console players a dumbed down version,The arguments that text chat doesnt work on console is just silly,Why wouldnt it work? everyone have a keyboard and they can use textchat on other MMOs on console,I feel like ESO community wont be the same as the pc ones if it doesnt have text chat,The voice chat seems cool,Yeah.

But text chat is a must for every MMO out there,I just cant believe it.. Please listen to us ZoS,Its not just me who is upset over this, Dont remove a social aspect from a game that is already lacking social aspects. Removing text chat removes so much from the game...

Final fantasy does an excellent job on Ps4,it even has crossplay which i hoped ESO would have (but i understand it isnt that easy when tis realeased both on ps4 and Xb1 so its not a huge problem, would just be something amazing to have ) And it supports text chat,so does every other console mmo.
Console players is not against text chat,i hope you realise that.

Everything else looks fine with the console version,i am still looking forward it but i hope you realie that it was a huge mistake to remove text chat.

what? do you expect to type with the A B X Y buttons? cmon dont make me laugh

    When's housing?

    Absolutely all I care about.

They said it was at the VERY BOTTOM of their list, so likely never. They have to finish a MASSIVE Amount of stuff they have promised over and over again since before beta before they even THINK About adding something like this.

They said 'we're thinking about it' in beta, too.

Your idea of 'promise' and mine are two separate things, I guess. Though I don't think I've bought into any lies at all. Seems to me that I expect they'll release whatever they plan on releasing in and around the time they get around to releasing it, and I'll either be here enjoying the game or not.

I may want something, and they may have said they were thinking about doing it, maybe, eventually. But I don't count it as a lie if it never gets here or doesn't arrive on my percieved schedule. Nor does it make it a promise.

Guess we'll have to go our separate ways then, as I don't see us coming to terms over your anger at this establishment, nor do I care much to do so.

Phantasy Star Online, released on Sega Dreamcast in 2001 with text chat support.
Elder Scrolls Online, nearly 14 years after PSO, in 2015, will release on XBone and PS4 without text chat support (cuz voice chat bro).

They so "Next Gen" , I wonder what Zone, Guild, and Yell chat sounds like in VOIP...

Yep. There is a tsunami of console disappointment on the horizon and the lack of chat is just the beginning.

People can type with those buttons,And by the way most people would use a keyboard. Thats what i am talking about ,text chat with a KEYBOARD

You can use that (admittedly awkward) PS4 controller chat box in FFXIV (or so my friends tell me), so why can't Zenimax at least implement something similar in ESO?

Having to scroll up, down and across a virtual keyboard on the screen with the controller would be better than nothing when you're trying to get a group together!

    Make it so, Zenimax!

PS/ I don't appreciate that you waited over a week *after* selling most people the $20 console upgrade to break the news that there wouldn't be any form of typed chat! That itself was kind of scammy.

I'd really like to know why Zenimax/Bethesda, who has more money than God, can't get a chat window implemented but DCUO (run by Daybreak games, who was apparently near bankruptcy when they were recently bought out and then just went through additional massive layoffs from their new overlords, Russian investment firm Columbus Nova) can.

Most PC players use TS in this game.
What is stopping console players doing this?
I use TS on my Laptop and play ESO on my PC direct to big screen TV.
If the inbuilt party chat, or Skype app on the console is not big enough TS not hard to set up for anyone with a Laptop.

I'm fine with the voice chat system they have set up for the console & in fact will use it ALOT, what I'm not fine about is that they dont have a text chat to go along with it & the fact they took it out on purpose for God only knows why...
