ZoS - Can Console Players without headsets at least hear others talking?

As the title states, can we? It was revealed recently that there will be no keyboard chat at all in the console versions, but voice chat will be included. Can those of us with no headset hear others talking through our TV's, at least? Or are we going to be completely messed out of any sort of social things entirely?

Buy a headset or use the one that came with your console. You have ample time to plan.

You don't know what you wish for :)

I played a couple of games with public voice com and the amount of trash talking there from people promoting their YT or Twitch channels every few minutes is a pain. You better hope you don't need to hear them talking unless you want, its better for your game and immersion.

Imagine you just fight the spider queen and a boy comes across and spams "hey, I have a YT channel with builds, go check it out at: I am leet and you beef" Or they insult you for picking a flower or wiping a dungeon group...

I sold the included original controller and headset when I got my XB1 to get enough money to buy a cheapie third-party controller + extra game (Dragon Age: Inquisition), so now I only have a third party non-headset compatible controller. That's now a minimum $85 extra expense for a compatible controller ($60) + cheapest XB1 headset ($25), then $60 for the game itself for a total of $145 just so I can actually talk/hear others in ESO, which I don't even want to do in the first place considering how thick my accent is. Keyboard/text chat would easily solve that issue.

Doesn't matter though, because I can't do it. Literally don't have the money. I've already had to adjust my budget to be able to afford the $60 for the game alone.

I just need someone from ZoS to cofirm it's at least possible to hear others without a headset through the TV.

ZOS cannot overide Xbox's Party/Game chat system. Those are native designs relevant with ALL xbox games, because they are independent of each game. As such, YES, you can hear game chat, voice chat and party chat through your microphones. These features are found under your settings function by hitting the select button on the home screen.

Xbox One's microphone options include headsets connected through the controller, or the Kinect device itself if you have one. Regretfully, unlike Playstation, there is no bluetooth headset option like there was with the Xbox 360.

For playing game and voice sounds, you can choose to play them through the TV, surround sound, or through the headset only. When I talk using the kinect or when my friends from out of town are talking with my wife and daughter, I turn on the stereo options so that the family can hear them.

In short, it will work, it does work, and I know for a fact that it works. At least on Xbox One. It's one of the simple strengths of the Xbox platform in general, the always on voice capabilities.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

I don't have a Kinect either. I looked all through the system settings and menus, but saw absolutely no option to play voice chat through the TV at all. Was it located in the Kinect menu? I'll double check right now.

EDIT: Checked, and I still see absolutely no option for where to assign voice chat sound. I don't see any option about voice chat in any menu setting period actually.

Hey...respectfully they have so far shared how the console version will run as far as communication.
More info will come after BETa but if anyone is planning on playing on console, in order to communicate, for this game so far you will need to use a headset and mic.

If you don't like that style, it may be best to stay on PC

Or just stick to soloing. :P Plus, let's not forget that Xbox One lets you snap things, such as messaging. That way you can always have the messaging box on the right side, and play the game on the left. Like this: http://winsupersite.com/site-files/winsupersite.com/files/uploads/2014/09/msgs-in-snap.jpg

Of course, that'll only work for two people playing together, not any more.

Plus, the support article says that the keyboard will be used "for features not already supported by voice chat or controller input." with the title "What chat systems are available to players on consoles?" so it's still a mystery what exactly the "controller input" chat system implementation is.

I think everyone is over reacting having not seen or played this version.
Depending on how you use your console there are hundreds of ways to use keyboard cummunication so again...I think it's a big overreaction at this point

I gotta agree at this point, the public beta thing hasn't even started yet. Once the beta comes round (and if I'm in it), I'll try it out myself and see what's available and if anything they added works as a substitute for keyboard chatting. If it is as hampering on my enjoyment as I think it will be, I'm sure me and many other players will post how it's unacceptable for excluding keyboard chat.

But until that point, there is no reason to discuss the keyboards on consoles yet. Still, incase there's no doable substitute, I'd at least like to know I'll be able to hear others, which is what this topic is for.

I was curious about that too, but please start a different topic for that. As far as I know, it's not anywhere in the PS4 store either.

If you do not have a headset plugged into your controller, voice chat will automatically default to the speakers on your TV. So long story short, yes, you can still hear in-game voice chat without a headset.

Muting it however, is questionable. I never did it myself, but you -should- be able to mute it in Settings > Privacy & online safety > Custom > Communicate with voice and text

I going out on a limb and will say as I've always suggested since 2013....the console versions will be better for the console crowd than the PC version is for PC.

Just because there are requirements and quality to pass to get it released AND that console games are either very well excepted or dangerously trashed.

From what we know so far...this is lining up for a very positive reception and experience. ZOS has literally made console specific adjustments to accommodate the loud feedback that came in 2013-2014 which was console specific such as the keyboard chat (not being apart of the game) and the sub.

Rather than adding in keyboard chat ZOS could continue to focus and enhance the voice chat options so they are ahead of the ....game. Lol
