Group or Solo?

Casdha

✭✭✭✭✭
I see folks arguing who out numbers who in a bunch of topics so I thought I'd pose the question.
Please choose the one that fits you the best.

Edit: Hopefully clear up some confusion - My intent with the choices was to keep them to a minimum and yet not rule out other play styles completely. Make it simple, what type of content do you prefer? Solo content, Group content, or PvP content. Some folks like multiple styles of play, some do not, but everyone has a primary style they would choose, choose that.

Edit2: Rather than making this poll again I bumped it to see if it still holds true. It was done back in April before the console crowd got here. Wonder if it will change.

Just for the record I like all play styles but I hate being forced into any of them. I particularly hate Group requirements on Quests, like in Craglorn. Heck even with Group dungeons in other areas, the stories can be completed solo. I know, I use to out level them then go back for the stories before ZOS made them scale to your level.

I prefer solo, I don´t like to be rushed. Also, I don´t use optimized builds which would likely make me a liability in groups.

I know, I could have come up with dozens of combinations but I thought using the word "option" would cut down on the polls complexity. I also like to Solo in PvP Zones from time to time as well, it adds a sense of danger to the mix.

I play MMOs for the interaction with others. As example, to trade or to meet with passer byes during a hard encounter in the open world. I never was a lone wolf so to speak, people make life fun.

      However,

there is nothing that I hate more than forced grouping. To group only to enter an area, to unlock trading or specific types of crafting materials. I dislike party interfaces in MMOs, I wish they would be gone so that everyone can just tag along with everyone. The first MMOs such as Ultima Online were like that, maybe I am living too much in the past now, but to enter a dungeon with the chance someone is already there and you can tag along was wonderful.

At ESO dungeon crawling mostly happens in premades especially towards the end of the game (Craglorn, Trials, Pledges) and this is so horrible. People shouldn't be forced to form groups in MMOs, MMOs should be a free environment without being pressured into something. Why can´t we just enter the Aetherian Archive and if people are already there then it will scale. I really miss so many basic MMO features in ESO, its just all so forced and if you then consider that all we got in one year was content for premades, then this is really sad.

I miss everquest where grouping was very important for a large amount of content. Where 2-3 hits from a mob could kill you and an you killed mobs one at a time. An enchanter would mez all the adds, a warrior would tank, shaman would debuff and slow attacks, and then there would be dps.

Now I don't have time for grouping but boy was it awesome.

i play solo only, but when doing dungeons i think the system is ok.u get to the place, ppl arrive, u have some time to organize your stuff, u dont just rush in the minute u got there , u even have time to read a book or two, i think it's great not to rush straight in.

80 percent says it all...forced grouping in this day and age is unacceptable!

I like grouping, please don't think Im playing In Vacuo constantly. But even if I am playing solo, I'm still chatting to guildies and friends - thats where the MMO aspect kicks in to.

I would love it if Craglorn had solo aspects. Especially the main story.

Yea but one good guild response could change this drastically.

As much as I'd like it too, I wouldn't count on that 80% holding. Then again, it depends on if different types of guild were to vote as well.

The only real problem I have with group stuff is that nobody reads the quest text. There's always somebody that wants to go through as fast as possible and doesn't care about that stuff, so you don't really get a chance to find out what's going on beyond "Go here, kill this, here's your axe, now go away."

I would prefer to group, but it seems a major portion just wants to solo. Note that my preference to group does not extend to joining a guild.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
      1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
      2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
      3) Difficulty slider.
      4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

I definitely don't mind grouping for dungeons or pvp.

But when it comes to doing quests and taking in the atmosphere and story, I prefer to do it alone and not at everyone else's pace.

      This.

Depending on how much time I have and how I'm feeling I may want to Solo or Group PvE or I may want to Solo or Group PvP. Having the options to indulge these play styles would mean that no matter how I feel or how much time I have I could login and do something. But with forced grouping, there are times where there is no point in me logging in because I don't have the time or the inclination to hunt for a group to carry out something.

This pole doesn't even make sense. Most players do not even touch the PvP in ESO because it sucks so much.

The majority of players would select "Prefer solo with grouping for certain content"
End the tedious inventory management game.

I prefer solo. Like to group with some, especially when I can talk to them. Chat window is not talking. I only go to the "Group" functions when certain folks are around. My skill level is not proportionate to the game and sometimes I need help. Other than that, I'm good with most others whom I meet along the way. I mostly PvE solo. I like to take my time.

Nothing in the poll really fit. I prefer to group with my wife, though I'll solo PvP with alts when she can't or won't play.

Of course, grouping leaves a lot to be desired, what with being easily posed out from other grouped players. Really hope the developers fix that ... soon.

Why did I get the feeling the overwhelming answer would be the first one? Perhaps because there's really not much incentive or bonus for grouping in this game?

(might be something to look at, ZOS)

I prefer to play solo mode because I usually match the 100% of the play sessions in terms of hours and type of gameplay with me. :#

I was to agree with me, I'm very cooperative with me, I'm not discriminate against me or attack me, or leave me excluded from any content for my performance or my game style. :p

Apart from that, I like the group option on certain occasions or for special events, but do not let it be a limiting my fun and progression in the contents. B)

Wait, I'm confused by this. If you enjoy grouping, why wouldn't you want to join a guild? With a guild you get to know people in it, so when you group with them you already know them and you're more likely to have a good time... So if you like grouping, why wouldn't you want to join a guild? I mean, I'm sure you've got some reason for not wanting to join a guild, I just can't think of what it could be.

Honestly, we won't have any real change to group content until monster AI improves past the point where the only way to make it challenging is by having them possess ten to a hundred times as much hitpoints as the players, and hit 3-4 times as hard as anything a player can do.

Solo content should be the norm. Players don't always have the time to wait around for their friends to log on and get to the right spot. They don't always have the desire to tackle content that requires perfect coordination and group builds that only work when they have synergy with others.

Most of the game while you're leveling up is solo, and that should not change simply because you've reached the level cap. Challenging solo content is very attainable. There are plenty of single player games that are examples of this. Why it's different in MMOs has never made sense to me.

      I apologize,

my first draft was about a half a page when I realized this would never work for a poll and deleted the whole thing. I thought short and sweet would be more appropriate,,,, but not to short, I didn't want ZOS thinking I was advocating for only a specific style of game play.

As for the choices, my intent was to vote the main play style you like in ESO and then have the option to play one, both or neither, of the other two styles listed.
