Didn't see this on the EU server.
Out of curiosity, was it the same type of letters that appear when there's an announcement that the server goes down in 15/10/5 minutes or that the crown store is currently unavailable for maintenance?

It was just like the messages that pop up on screen when something happens in Cyrodiil. Like 'so and so took a scroll'
Huge, bright yellow, irritating, annoying, tacky, slimy, putrid message.

It's always surprising the first time someone decides to start scraping the bottom of the barrel.

    This is the first time...?

With this particular barrel? Yep. Unless you've been seeing full screen ads popping up before this while playing.

    Nah, I just don't differentiate barrels. : P

ZOS has been scraping the bottom for a while now. It's not like they're going to be writing any books on ethical treatment of their player base any time soon.

Dear god, man, then how do you keep track of which barrels have fish that need to be shot? :p

This is a new low, though. I suppose everyone who's been in the, "you can't trust anything they say," or, "how do you know a ZoS is lying? Their posting on the forums," crowd can get to say, "told you so." But... ugh. :(

I thought that System messages in chat were supposed to have the Z icon in front of them to prevent people from forging them, since any add-on can put "[System]" in the text that they put out.

Yeah, I get that. I was just thinking back to the Z icon thing that is supposed to prevent people from pretending to be ZOS and saw that the screen capture did not have that.

Also, I do not know if the splash message is protected or if any add-ons can access it, but this has me wondering. Not that this might have been faked, but wondering if it can be.

While i understand that you need (and should) promote the new store content, do you have to splash it mid screen AND on the chat window?

Please remove it from the screen. It's bad enough that you get the PvP warnings with an option to opt out. Having a clean, stripped down ui that is flexible (with addons) is a great idea so please don't ruin it further.

There is an addon called No Thank You, that deals with most spam, its done by the reputable and legendary Garkin, who has done a lot of other useful addons, such as skyshards etc.

I don`t know for sure, but this addon might block these msgs, if not then I can /tell him tommorow sometime.

I hope everyone that supported the B2P conversion is happy. This is exactly the kind of crap that ALWAYS follows. This is tacky and sleezy and everyone that was happy with the sub model tried to warn you about this kind of garbage.

If this gets out of hand, I will find a new game. I do not want ANY kind of digital reminder to whip out my credit card. Next it will be lock boxes or a flashing icon on the UI.

    Pretty sad day.

Open the game, login with any character, then copy and "send" the following line as a chat message - enjoy! :)

My understanding is that "impulse" buys end up being more lucrative because they are repeated more often. IF ZOS will be making it's income from the crown store, then they need to have a lot of repeat customers. So over the long haul things like one-shot items will be more profitable/likely than more "permanent" kinds of things.

    Or categories of things:

A new costume every so often will be a better moneymaker than being able to dye your costume.

A new pet every so often will be a better moneymaker than adding a skill like to summon more kinds of things.

However, some things might be worth the development cost:

IF there is player housing, then furnishings become purchasable.

IF there was a section in collections called "pet training" than new emotes/tricks would become purchasable.

IF there was a section in collections called 'taming wild animals' than new one-shot "taming tools" would become purchasable.

Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Will the cash shop be intrusive? I really like the minimal UI you guys have going on in the game, and I would totally hate to have a large spinning dollar/septim/crown/whatever telling me to "BUY ALL THE STUFF", especially if I am a current subscriber.

The crown store is not intended to be intrusive. We do not direct the player to it or pop it up in front of you when you run out of potions.

Its just there when you want it.

It was a system message, which I've seen in just about every mmo to date. Not only in chat, but the text on the screen too. It's not uncommon, so being offended when it happens is ridiculous.

What I WOULD get upset about is if it just opened the crown store when you logged in, while they shouted about the items. Some mmos do that. This one does not.

It's not that big of a deal, and it is already over. Relax people.

Complacent attitudes like yours are why things like this happen. You and those like you who are too used to playing low end games and MMO's (I'm an Elder Scrolls fan not an MMO fan myself). If you had not noticed you are the minority by a landslide in this matter. If you think this is over take a look at other things they have done like not letting you take earned crowns to the console, making mats obsolete and saying they can be sold for replacement value then they end up being next to worthless. The list is much longer and goes far back. The last thing Elder Scrolls needed was an MMO but since that ship has sailed they may as well keep the integrity of the franchise intact.
