I was chugging along doing the already ridiculous daily grind towards Black Market Mogul when I get "buy from the crown store spam" in big yellow letters across my screen. I don't care what imaginary pseudo holiday it is, this is not remotely acceptable to do for any reason. If you want people to buy from the crown store put something worthwhile in it. Quit trying to whittle down our accumulated crowns with impulse buys before the good stuff comes out. Keep the store advertisements to the client launcher and website. More class is expected from an Elder Scrolls game, even if it is an MMO. That is the kind of spam you get from bush league freemium mobile games.

Agreed. This was the first time I'd seen something like this. There was a collective groan in Cyrodiil zone chat. I thought in one the many AUAs/interviews ZOS did when they announced B2P they said they would not make the Crown Store visually obnoxious. Just like with the "convenience" aspect of the Crown Store, it's always a slippery slope

Naw in fairness, I have not personally seen this message, but I can imagine how annoying it can be and agree with what ya said.

Yeah, I saw it earlier in the launcher, which seemed appropriate. Spamming big gold letters across my screen while I play is just plain tacky. As mentioned above, all you have to do in order to get me to buy things from your store is to put things in your store that I want to buy. I will never in a million years buy your green food or drinks. I may some day buy a pet, but your spam will not have anything to do with it. Give me DLC content, character slots, bank slots, etc. and I'll give you some crowns.

My word ZOS, how can you guys think this is acceptable? Any idea @ZOS_GinaBruno? We know about the Crown Store, you put it in the launcher, on the login screen, in-game and on the website, there is no need to global spam it.

Furthermore, National Pet Day? The day some random woman with no actual qualifications relating to animals suddenly decided that today was forever "National Pet Day" and on top of this she also "founded" various other "days" which she uses to cash in on pretty sweetly, including "philanthropic holidays". How much more of a cash grab can you get ZOS? If you're going to global spam us at least spam us on a holiday that is worth a damn.

Unbelievable.

I can believe it went through the chat box and I have no problem with it once an hour or so. But across the screen notifications are simply unacceptable. I will have a hard time believing this happened until I see a screenshot of it.

It would be nice if we could turn off in-game marketing in the Settings somewhere but receive a benefit (5% xp gain?) for leaving them turned on.

My entire guild did a collective eyeroll over this ridiculous stunt today. And in honor of real animals everywhere that need a home we all decided NOT to buy ANYTHING from the crown shop today.

Now had they offered a percentage of profits TO actual charities that promote actual animal welfare we might have thought about it. But honestly ZOS what you just did here was incredibly cheap and tacky. Don't do it again.

It DID happen. Because I totally noticed and was appalled by the GIANT YELLOW LETTERS going across my whole screen as if I were being informed of gaining the emperorship in Cyrodil. I was completely flabbergasted when I read what it ACTUALLY said.

*** like this is a major part of why I left STO. Seriously, if this becomes the norm, I'm out. There are games out there that treat me like less of an ambulatory bag of cash to tap on a whim to put up with in game advertisements getting splashed across my screen.

Also, this isn't some random bluff. I actually left ESO the first time because I was sick and tired of the Gold Sellers advertising all over the place. If you'd literally seen no money from me before, I'd say, "okay, fine, whatever, you need to make some."

But, I've been here (off and on) since beta, you've seen a year of subscription fees from me, on top of an Imperial edition upgrade. I should not be seeing this F2P garbage from this game.

The part I take issue with is the notion that the game developers are responsible for this apart from creating a message broadcast system which is useful at times, such as when the server is going down.

I can guaren-friggin-tee you that game developers do not like cash shops anymore than you do.

Just think....you're a game developer. What would you most like to do? Improve the game, develop features, fix what's broken...or create another danged pet or mount skin?

Please rage on....by all means. If you don't there's more of that crap a'comin. But direct your fury at the bizdev folks or the publisher. Not the devs. They'll be happy you did

At the time this hit my screen today the game was a freaking slideshow in Cyrodiil. I thought it lagged so hard the devs wen't *** and this message squirted out. How about national fix your game day? We had auto purchases of this every month for the last year. How about ZOS quit "looking into it" and get to fixing it.

Nah, I just don't differentiate barrels. : P

ZOS has been scraping the bottom for a while now. It's not like they're going to be writing any books on ethical treatment of their player base any time soon.

Didn't see this on the EU server.
Out of curiosity, was it the same type of letters that appear when there's an announcement that the server goes down in 15/10/5 minutes or that the crown store is currently unavailable for maintenance?
