Im pretty sure if it was up to Zenimax they would bypass the PS+ and Xbox Live Gold stuff. So pretty sure that was up to Sony and not Zenimax.

So, how come that other MMOs on the PS4, like FFXIV (subscription) or DCUO (f2p) don't require PS+? Because Sony is throwing a dice to decide which game need PS+ and which don't?

I disagree with the notion that the gold and PS+ requirements will affect subscribers. I don't think it will deter too many dedicated console gamers as they likely already have memberships to these services.

We are not talking about dedicated console players - they eat everything. I am talking about people who are here for the game, not because it is yet another one console game...

Did the timing not seem coincidental at all?

:) So there is a conspiracy here :) I just wondering - do they have financing from MS or Sony? This might be the case.

    Exceptions

Free-to-play games are exempt from this requirement and can be played online with no PS Plus subscription. Examples of games that fall into this category are: Blacklight Retribution, DC Universe Online, and War Frame.

ESO is not f2p. So PS+ is required.

Sorry if this is answered but I read the email as I could pay $20 to copy my PC toons (Maintain my PC toons) and then acquire the console version and not have to start from scratch.

    Is that correct?

    To clarify
    • I get to maintain my PC accounts as is with no changes
    • I pay 20 dollars and now have an account for console with my current Characters
    • I need to then acquire the console game to play and a separate membership if i choose
    • Characters going forward progress independently between platform

One thing I noticed that I think changed is that it is a COPY not a TRANSFER. I remember way back when, I thought it was a transfer. I read this correct...right? Your characters will exist on both worlds but not share progress?

Maybe, it would be interesting to see if you could play both versions after you get the console. I don't see any reason why not. But, the character save files are forked at that point, so what you do on one will not be available on the other. Kind of like how what you on the PTS copy of your character has no effect on the Live server copy.

However from a back office standpoint, a copy is much safer than a transfer. If the transfer gets screwed up, then the source file may not be there anymore. A copy can be be re-done if needed.

You can play both versions after the copy happens, but from that point forward your characters will progress separately :) I've asked.. I'm snatching up PS4 copy just in case, but sticking on PC.

This is what I wanted to know, if I can copy it over to X1 and PS4 and continue playing on my PC character. I have friends who will be getting it on X1. I myself rather it on PC and like playing on PC with my add ons. However, I'd also want to play with my friends on X1.

The $20 I think is for the game so technically the transfers are free. You keep your characters on both PC and whatever console. The only thing is once the transfer happens to console the two accounts then gain everything seperately. So if you move a v10 guy to console and then level him to v14 your pc guy will still be v10 until you level him as well. You dont NEED a membership subscription on either one to play. Plus members do get perks tho.

    Multiple reasons.

Perhaps it's because Square Enix has more pull or is bigger than ZOS. FFXIV is exclusive to the PS4 on consoles, perhaps that console exclusivity was negotiated at the cost of not requiring membership. Also Sony's membership service is not as well established, and their console has a history of not requiring a membership. With that in mind Sony is playing catch up to Microsoft who has years of requiring it and is only recently starting to let up on it being required. Not saying one way is better or worse, but it may play into the requirement.

also, I am signed into my account and get this
To play Elder Scrolls Online on your PlayStation®4 or Xbox One, you need to link your Sony Entertainment Network or Xbox Live account. You can link both a Sony Entertainment Network and Xbox Live account, but no information (characters, progress, etc.) will be shared between them--the accounts are entirely separate. This feature is currently disabled until we launch The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One.

I got my email saying I can (and as soon as it is confirmed I can pay the $20 to copy and continue playing on PC along with playing on X1 I will) link my account, however the section to do so isn't working.

I always have an Xbox Live account. Not sure why so many are upset over needing it to play multiplayer, it's been like that for as long as I can remember (7 years easy).

No, it isn't. That's thought to be a reason but if you are honest, it isn't. They could have stayed sub for PC and went B2P just on consoles. They changed to B2P on PC because the game created not enough revenue to stay as a sub. That's it and nothing else.

Why would they drop the ps plus/xbl gold requirements?

There are about 200+ games that use this logic. TESO is far from pushing any sway look at COD, BF, GTA online, Neverwinter, Destiny

They all require it and are all have substantial success. This will be no different as there will be more on ps4/xb combined than on PC considering many are transfering over to test the waters. Long term we will prob see a balance but initially console will have a lot more ppl just cause it's new and been a year

Respectfully are you here just to troll?
These companies are running billion dollar enterprises with multi-million dollar servers (at least Microsoft is) so while our pennies paid may bother you they aren't milking anyone. Most pay $50-$60 a year. Most get $300 in game discounts so I'm not sure what math supports the milking context.

Got my email too for transfer which I'll do but I wanted to keep playing till PS4 release.
Since it's a 30 days offer, I think I'll just keep playing for 2 more weeks before buying the transfer so it can copy the progression properly and not my current VR1 Sorcerer.
Kinda sad it only a 30 days offer and we have to do it so quick but glad I'll be able to keep my Sorcerer and get the PS4 version for only 20$ :)

Quick question: The email states that characters will not be copied over immediately upon pre-purchasing. Any ETA on when that WILL happen, or really, just will when you pre-purchase have any bearing on when characters are copied?

If it's going to be later in the 30 days, I'd rather wait as long as possible, as characters continually progress, and I'd prefer to re-do progression as little as possible. If on the other hand it will be later on, like at or just before release, I'd probably go ahead and pre-purchase now.

    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21326/

To further clarify, if you qualify for the console transfer offer, you do not have to purchase the console version of the game separately. The $20.00 transfer includes a digital copy of ESO for the console of your choice and the character transfer. Hope that helps!

    I asked a long time ago ;)

Wonder what this will do to the PC game. console is going to be a flash in the pan. People will play and leave much faster than your average PC gamer.

I wonder if people will be allowed to transfer from console to PC? I just don't see console lasting very long. People play MMOs long term for the communities, and console players are typically more into CoD'esk games, play for a few months then drop it.

I see a short term boost in revenue, with the long term erosion of the player base...that is, UNLESS they allow people to port from console to PC.
