They are guards meant to keep you in check. They are empowered by the Justice of Stendarr in order to keep you from getting out of controll. Therefore they have a special condition that they hurt you more and you can't kill them.

Because once they enter Oblivion, their powers go away. Note that there are no Superguards in Coldharbour, including Hollow City.

The fact that they are invincible is quite bothersome. At least make them give no XP and have a high respawn rate.

With the power of the Amulet of Kings, you're much stronger than all these guards together. They couldn't have done much without this power. At least not helping to defeat Molag Bal.

The guards of ESO worship Stendarr and therefore get 'godlike' powers when enforcing Justice (or Mercy if you pay)

But they have no power over anything else and therefore weak as a kitten against anything else.
Daedra break no laws. (the laws of man and mere do not apply to them) so they have no bounty and therefore immune to the justice of Stendarr

We're actually all just RPing crazy people experiencing the same psychosomatic hallucinations creating a synchronous delusion that we've all saved Nirn from an invasion of an extra planar being.

You've actually never left Cold Harbour from the beginning of the game. Molag Bal has dominated your mind and created an elaborate scheme to keep you from ever escaping: he's convinced you that you're free so that you'll never realise your caged, and no one can resist imprisonment if they don't know they are imprisoned. He's truly genius. The guards are unkillable because Molag Bal doesn't want the mind prison to be too entertaining, he wants you to suffer a bit.

Explains everything else too. Game bugs that you hate? Molag Bal mind prison torture. Constantly bad luck on the RNG? Molag Bal mind prison torture. Getting Radiant Destruction from 5 Templar at once? Molag Bal mind prison torture.

He's the god of schemes, and you've played right into his game!

    Obscure. that was just awesome.

Now if only "justice" could be found when you go to bleakrock isle for the first time and there are vr14 guards roaming about when a single one could stop the covenant invasion all by himself.

    .

yeah :D I still love the explanations above.

This is honestly the first rational explanation for why half of the players I encounter are dressed in neon green and purple.
