Personal preference. In my eyes even the compass and glow around NPCs are clutter. We all play in different ways.Rook_Master wrote: »I have them turned on, and they do not clutter at all.
People don't spam say or yell all that often in towns anyway, and I wouldn't even mind if they did.

Every poll I've seen in these forums on the topic of chat bubbles has shown the majority of people answering the poll don't want to use them. Don't make something active by default if the majority of people don't want it.

There'd be nothing wrong with a "did you know that you can enable chat bubbles" tip on a loading screen or something, but not while they're still considered to be in beta.demonaffinity wrote: »Every poll I've seen in these forums on the topic of chat bubbles has shown the majority of people answering the poll don't want to use them. No definately not. If the majority wants it off, then it should be off by default. But in that case, I would still like to see the feature introduced to new players so they know it's there.

No, but if in the tutorial Z wants to do an information box on it, no prob. I use the chat bubbles in groups, but otherwise just look at the chat box. It's like having billboards all over. Not pretty.
Because there have been a lot of forum polls about chat bubbles, framed in all kinds of different ways, and the one thing that all of those polls have in common is that most people don't want to use them. Myself included. Having said that, I've always said "add them to the game for people who want them, but have them off by default" and I support the idea of letting more people know that they're available. I don't think it's wise for ZOS to be promoting chat bubbles while they're still in beta, though (and the same goes for anything while it's still in beta). I recognize that for some people chat bubbles are a useful tool, and I think people should know about them and be able to choose for themselves if they want to enable them.joshisanonymous wrote: »And I'm not sure why everyone is so convinced that most players don't want them.

I'm not singling you out, but this argument about bubbles being all over the place when the option is turned on is pretty ridiculous.

The reverse may be equally true, most people may not know it can be turned off.
Any way you slice it, there is no excuse for ignorance.

Trying to use say chat (like walking up to someone in real life and saying hello) and knowing they have to look down at the corner to even be able to acknowledge what Im trying to do, is silly in my book. It's one of the first MMO's Ive seen who does not have chat bubbles for regular "say".You *can* do that if you want.
I just don't want to see chat bubbles over the head of some stranger saying stuff that has nothing to do with me, so I turned that part of it off.
That is my personal preference.

We are all ignorant about some things for some reason. So I disagree on the whole "no excuse for ignorance", but that's another topic

What bothers me is the fact that a very little portion of the playerbase uses the feature which makes it useless. But again, what could bother you could be that everyone uses it.

I can't tell you how many times I've suggested this. The people that don't like them are just being spoilsports. SO many people don't even know they exist! On by default to simply educate people of their existence.
