No, they walked past me because they didn't see my message. I've whispered some of them who didn't react to my first message, and some of them reply back that they would like to recieve the gear I'm offering.Zershar_Vemod wrote: »Leave as is.
People walked past you because they simply didn't care.
I have chat bubbles enabled, but only for group members or tells.
For everything else, there is a chat box.
Well, like I said in my OP, if it bothers you, turn it off. If it didn't bother you, you wouldn't care wether or not it's on or not. Trying to use say chat (like walking up to someone in real life and saying hello) and knowing they have to look down at the corner to even be able to acknowledge what Im trying to do, is silly in my book. It's one of the first MMO's Ive seen who does not have chat bubbles for regular "say".You *can* do that if you want.
I just don't want to see chat bubbles over the head of some stranger saying stuff that has nothing to do with me, so I turned that part of it off.
That is my personal preference.
Yeah my idea is getting mauled lmfao. I would appreciate if people gave some reasons why they think it's a bad idea though.Naor_Sarethi wrote: »the people have spoken.

The thing is, on many games "Say" is a chat option that is supposed to be used when interacting in the nearby area. Kinda like when you talk in real life. I don't understand why it's restricted to the chatbox. I can understand whispers, guildchat, groupchat etc, but say should be visable in the nearby area in my opinion.

Aren't chat bubbles still considered in beta? Last I checked the settings it still said beta beside the option to turn them on. Nothing that is in beta should ever be turned on by default.demonaffinity wrote: »Yeah my idea is getting mauled lmfao. It's not a bad idea per se. If you really don't want it, you can turn it off, sure. The same is true in reverse, if you really want it you can turn it on. It's even-steven really, so might as well leave it as it is.
Plus I despise chat bubbles, which makes me biased but doesn't invalidate my opinion. And that is that dev resources should have been spent on more important stuff instead of fluff in the first place.

Yeah I usually use zone chat for giving away items. I dont use say chat on moving players, because of obvious reasons. I just like to get more personal. Walking up to someone and having a conversation is much more satisfying to me. It bothers me greatly that this is not possible in this game.demonaffinity wrote: »Some time ago, I found a blue weapon, and I started wandering about a city to find someone who might be able to use it as an upgrade. 9/10 people I tried to talk to by using /say, ran straight past me, or just didn't react to it. Because if you want to get your message out to the most people in a City, then use Zone Chat. Trying to strike up a conversation with a random person running by in a city is not going to work. For example, when I am in a city, I am there for a reason and I taking care of that reason. I am not paying attention to chat, I am focused on getting done what I need to do and getting out of the city, or logged back to one of my other characters.
The first rule of sales, or giveaways is to find people who want what you have to offer and do not waste time talking to those who are not interested. So, use an Ad to bring in the interested customers, then talk to them.
This is how I give stuff away, and how I have seen others do the same thing. There is one player who makes a set of L10 gear and gives it away once a week. He stands in the city center and sends out zone messages and soon finds someone to take the gear. I just give away single items.
Chat bubbles won't solve your problem. Even if they're on by default, people you try to talk to could dislike them and turn them off, so again you'll be seen only in chat window.demonaffinity wrote: »Yeah I usually use zone chat for giving away items. It could just be me, but if you want a personal conversation with me, use whisper.
You can talk to them like this if you want. What I'm trying to say is that I'll never see your chat bubbles because I will turn them off. They clutter my screen and I don't like them. It works just fine with like-minded people, but it still won't be a reliable method of contacting random strangers like me this way.demonaffinity wrote: »Chat bubbles won't solve your problem. And if I wanted to talk to several people in front of me without forming a party? Sure we could all have a tab only for /say, but I think it's unreasonable to expect everyone to take such an action. Having visual chat bubbles just makes everything easier. of course it should always be an option wether or not you want them though.
Also having chat bubbles at LEAST introduced at some point, would add some life into the world.
