I've seen some pretty nasty comments targeted at gays too so I get where you guys are coming from, but you can't let them get to you. I agree, however it was the repeated use of the term ment to belittle a group of people if someone was saying [snip] EVERY OTHER SENTANCE THAT WOULD GET JUMPED ON KINDA QUICK SO i DONT SEE WHY USING AN OFFENSIVE TERM TO DESCRIBE WOMEN IS OK. srry caps
I agree with you, however...gamergate ...we are still fighting the battle

When I said then I would be forced to report it I was told I would get banned for misuse of the report button!

It still deserves a report.
I swear quite regularly among my friends. Doesn't mean I run down the street yelling profanities.
No it doesnt deserve a report. If someone says something you dont like you have many options to remove those statements from your view.
Yes, and you can still report the person for violating the chat rules. Your ability to ignore their immaturity doesn't grant them free license to break those rules.
I'm pretty sure swearing in zone chat is NOT against the rules. And why should it be when you have an ignore button, a profanity filter, and the ability to turn of zone chat.
I'm pretty sure it is. The CoC for the forums and in-game chat rules are almost entirely identical.
So stop trying to offer up excuses for immature rudeness. This is something that can and should be reported. The community gets better for it.
Switching off zone chat isn't a fair resolution when you're encountering abuse and insults. You were right to challenge him/her/them. Just because it(abuse) happens, doesn't make the behaviour acceptable. Switching off zone chat implies that you're in the wrong for being offended and that you should withdraw from zone chat to allow this person to continue acting without respect.
Why should you have to run around with one less social feature in the game, when it's others who can't behave respectably?
Completely with you on this.

And use your ignore function. Far more effective than engaging with the pre-pubescent boys who find this kind of thing funny.

This is false...stop trying to make others think the way you do. Swearing in game IS NOT against the rules, the proof is in the pudding, the profanity filter and the ignore feature are proof of this. Fact of the matter is I believe in freedom of speech, maybe because I'm American, but restricting what people say is not a good thing, giving up personal freedoms for a more political correct world is a completely backwards and archaic way of thinking. Just my 2 cents.

People are often confused by the First Amendment. They don't realize it only protects against the government inhibiting speech, not private organizations.Cervanteseric85ub17_ESO wrote: »Fact of the matter is I believe in freedom of speech, maybe because I'm American, but restricting what people say is not a good thing, giving up personal freedoms for a more political correct world is a completely backwards and archaic way of thinking. Just pointing out that the First Amendment does not apply to businesses or private spaces, which a game server is. This would only apply if the government was running the game servers and tried to restrict speech.
A private entity can create a space and place rules of behavior on that space that they deem appropriate. Your Freedom is to join up and follow the rules or walk away.

Since when does 'Mature' equate to acting like a brat?
Also if we are using Mature card here then no one who acts opposite to that should be allowed. If 'M' is taken to the letter then please do ban all children as they are for the most part, the ones who do this.
Some things mature, others rot.

If you play in a private playground, freedom of speech doesn't apply in that playground. The owners of that playground can put whatever restrictions they want on what people can and cannot say, and can punish people who don't follow the rules by banning them from the playground, or otherwise restricting what they can do in the playground.

It's the concept, and it should be applied to all playgrounds real or virtual. The rules have been set by the owner, they have even given us tools to manage this playground. Freedom of speech is given to the player by the developers and should be respected by the players. I would understand more if this was wizard 101 which is full of minors, but this is a mature rated game, so it comes with the territory. In the end ZoS being an American company should understand and sympathize, and I feel they do because we been given the tools to manage this playground.
No. It really shouldn't. The government shouldn't have any right to prevent you from being a ***, but if you're being a *** in a private playground and making things not fun for other people using that private playground, the owners of that private playground should have every right to say that they're not going to let you keep being a *** in their playground. If they don't have that right, then they're going to lose revenue because all of the people who don't want to play in a playground with *** will go away.Cervanteseric85ub17_ESO wrote: »Freedom of speech is about the ability to say whatever you want (with some restrictions: there are always restrictions) without government censorship or retribution. So if I respect their right to call me a B***H coz i do not have an extra leg, then dont I have a right to be respected in turn for finding it offensive when someone calls my sex a derogatory term. I wouldnt accept it in the real world, no court would accept it (sexual discrimination), so why would I accept it in a pixilated game.
In the real world i could walk away, kinda like mute, but i would still say something, or report it if the person persisted after explaining I found it offensive and insensitive.
And don't try to tell me in the real world in the states that sexual discrimination is allowed, coz it aint.

Your missing the point. You have every right to be offended just as they person in zone chat has every right to say what they want. You have all the options available to you to deal with the situation. You can send them a whisper voicing your opinion, you can slash ignore them, you can report them, what you don't have the right to do is prevent others from saying what they are going to say. I completely agree that ZoS has the right to police their game any way they would like, no one is arguing that point. Report them and let ZoS deem if they need to bring the ban hammer or not. But people are trying to take matters into their own hands here, telling other subscribers what is acceptable and what is not. You have ever right to voice your concern and speak your mind. Go ahead and flame that troll in zone chat, use wit to beat them at their own game. But by the nine do not add more restrictions to the limited freedom of speech we have already.
