Vile Na server zone chat

Is zone chat awful everywhere or just on ep? Swapped from eu server to Na for a change in scene and the fact Na seems way more populated. Rolled a new toon on EP and whoa some of the most abusive chat in stonefalls. some guy was basicly using the tern [snip] every 2 mins to talk about women. He was asked politely to refrain, I agreed with the person and lets say the air turned blue with sevrel telling me to turn off zone chat and that he had a right to use that word. When I said then I would be forced to report it I was told I would get banned for misuse of the report button!

Yea..zone chat in most games now days can be disgusting. Kind of makes me hate the human race. I turn it off unless I need it for something.

Use the report button for inappropriate speech. Trolls love to pretend that you'll get banned for "misusing" it.

And use your ignore function. Far more effective than engaging with the pre-pubescent boys who find this kind of thing funny.

Just report. Stonefalls has had the most disgusting chat I have witnessed in this game, ZOS could keep a MOD busy 24-7 on that area alone.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Welcome to the world of MMOs sadly, it's like that in every zone chat across every MMO (at least that I've seen). Imagine at school if every student was given a megaphone... some of them would do stupid things with it lol.

I'm not actually sure about cursing and profanity in zone chat, I know in the forums it isn't allowed, but the forums generally have different rulesets. I thought it was ok to use profanity in zone chat, so long as you aren't using it to harass, promote sexism, hate etc.? I mean... profanity filter is on by default, you have to turn it off to see it... though pretty sure the case you're talking about @Carafina34 falls under sexism, which is a definite no-no and should be reported.

No it doesnt deserve a report. If someone says something you dont like you have many options to remove those statements from your view.

Unless they are using prejudice terms of course.

Yes, and you can still report the person for violating the chat rules. Your ability to ignore their immaturity doesn't grant them free license to break those rules.

When the game launched, at first my ignore list got filled pretty quickly from all the spammers selling gold etc. Recently I realized if you adjust the color of zone chat a certain way, it is barely noticeable unless someone is using /yell.

I agree with the others who posted above, however - if you find something someone says to be offensive or inappropriate, filing a report is the only way to let the staff know about it.

Yes it does - stop trying to make rude behaviour seem acceptable. This is a game but we are real people. You wouldn't want your own kid throwing *bi**hes* everywhere - so stop glossing over it and be a human being worth the air you use.

Personally I'm not going to report someone for an occasional bit of profanity (although I would be well within my rights to do so, and it wouldn't be an abuse of the report system at all). What OP is describing is far worse than that, though, and definitely deserves a report.

with any luck, the community guidelines will actually see some upholding in the future.

but starter zones, usually including the first and second major location, and the mini islands are terrible with undesireables who never play long enough to actually penetrate the upper levels...

I'm pretty sure it is. The CoC for the forums and in-game chat rules are almost entirely identical.

So stop trying to offer up excuses for immature rudeness. This is something that can and should be reported. The community gets better for it.

I would report it if you feel that strongly about it. Honestly at the end of the day it's a losing battle. I find some of the things I see in zone chat personally disturbing or insulting but I find it better to simply ignore them. Now that the game is B2P it's only going to get worse. At least before children needed their parents credit card. Probably the worst thing you can do is argue with them as that only encourages it.

Rated "M" for mature. I personally don't say vile stuff in zone chat, but I realize peoples morals and personalities are different. I try not to push my values on others and start reporting people if they don't fall into what I consider socially correct. Perhaps turn on profanity filter or ignore chat?

Switching off zone chat isn't a fair resolution when you're encountering abuse and insults. You were right to challenge him/her/them. Just because it(abuse) happens, doesn't make the behaviour acceptable. Switching off zone chat implies that you're in the wrong for being offended and that you should withdraw from zone chat to allow this person to continue acting without respect.

Why should you have to run around with one less social feature in the game, when it's others who can't behave respectably?

    Completely with you on this.

I've run toons through all three alliances, and that kind of behavior is in all three alliances. When I commented on it while playing a DC toon, I was told "Welcome to GlenDumbra." (IMO, it was no better in EP or AD).

Best thing to do is use your ignore feature, and if it's something over the top report it as well. No one's going to ban you for using the report feature.

It gets better once you're out of the lower level zones. Those have a higher concentration of people who are just using the game as a virtual chat room. I don't have an issue with that, and to be honest, I really don't care if people want to type obscenities and have incendiary conversations, I just wish there was a separate channel for that (like a /dillhole channel).

moderators: choice of channel name was based on what Beavis and Butthead were able to broadcast in alignment with FCC regulations, I assume it's acceptable for the forum.

While I agree that people should be mature enough not to act like a moron in zone chat, I also think others should be mature enough to ignore it.
