Now we all know 1.6 has brought many new (and some old revived) performance issues. It really shows itself on weekends, PvP and PvE alike, especially when you enter towns and areas where other players are. The performance just becomes awful.

In preparation for the flood of new players coming in the very near future, please please tell me you at ZOS have an ace up your sleeve to counter this. If not this could be a disaster for new business and drive people away.

Watcha gon' do? ;x

I . and Many others have the same questions, but we have not ever been given any type of answer.

I do understand the "company policy" about revealing "confidential information" but.... just because I understand it, does not mean I like it.

I suspect their servers will be hosted buy a major ISP and have burstable bandwith with ddos mitigation. Pretty standard.

I'm fully expecting the Servers to burn once the massive influx of B2P folks floods in. When enough of them get high enough for Cyro, it will probably be unplayable, as in won't even load.

I am more worried about the "type" of players that will be rushing in on the 17th. Sigh..... :/

"And it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days. The fact that the word "monetized" exists points to the heart of the issue for us: We don't want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for - with our system, they get it all."

The lag is ridiculous, like you said, especially on the weekends. I also have another concern when the game comes out on console. Some people are saying that the PC/Mac and console will be on same server, I don't see how that can work, but that's what they say they have read. What about lag then??? And do any of you know if that is true or is it just a rumor?

@Lady_Guinevere That is untrue. The consoles will have their own servers. It has been widely stated by ZOS that they have their own.

Cyrodiil at launch was not worse than now when it comes to performance and I highly doubt we'll have anywhere near that number new players with B2P so it hopefully shouldn't get worse than it is now.

Nope, I've heard them confirm this too. Otherwise all three platforms would also be able to play with each other, which is definitely not the case. Each platform will have it's own NA and EU Server.

I am sure they are renting floor space in some data center, and it looks like Level 3 is the ISP. Level 3 has data centers in key locations that ZeniMax uses, but so do other companies.

I do hope they beef up the bandwidth limit on their Akamai account. All those people downloading the game for the first time will certainly hit whatever limit Akamai places on that service.

It is possible, but I think that the megaserver technology scales much higher than what it is being used for at the moment. At least, outside of Cyrodiil. On top of that, it is highly likely that the server hardware is rented equipment and they could rent additional equipment for the bubble, again for PVE support. Last, keep in mind that the console megaservers will probably be co-located with the PC/Mac megaservers and, depending on where they are with the console beta, they may have the console megaserver hardware already available for a temporary loan to PC/Mac during the bubble, if needed.

It is not up to ZOS to decide. I am certain that both Sony and Microsoft will want to make sure that there is no crossover, intentional or accidental. While I am willing to predict that the three megaservers (PC/Mac, PS4, and Xbox) will be co-located, for cost efficiency, they will be three separate systems, with three separate copies of ESOTU, three separate maintenance schedules, and unique IP addresses.

If they tried to use a really really big megaserver to simulate three smaller megaservers, I am certain that the technology would support it. However, this would limit them in a number of ways. For one thing, the PC/Mac, PS4, and Xbox would likely have to be in a tighter lock-step than they would be if the servers were separate. This means that when Sony, Microsoft, or BethSoft demand that some DLC be exclusive to a platform, it will be more complicated for ZOS to comply. It will also require that all the platforms go down if a server maintenance is needed for any one of them.

On the other hand, having one megaserver that handles all the platforms would probably cost less. Hardware could be dynamically assigned to the platform that needs it, reducing the overall demand for server hardware. There would be less need for duplication of effort on the part of Zenimax in terms of server maintenance and management. Patch and update installs could be done once instead of three times and fixes would not have to be replicated across three megaservers.
