Very weird 'reverse depth of view' effect on mobs, NPCs and PCs

I've just been wandering about the area just outside Stonetooth Fortress where the spiders are. I was by the fallen tree where a chest sometimes spawns where I realised I could see no mobs, not a single spider.

Wandering a bit further I heard the sound of a mob aggroing me and from out of nowhere some three or four feet away a spider suddenly appeared: and no, these are 'stealth' mobs.

After dealing with I moved a bit further and saw several spiders maybe 30 feet away, but as I approached them they just vanished, while looking back where I had just been I could now see spiders!

It's like a reverse 'depth of view' effect, the beyond a threshold I could see mobs, less than that I couldn't. I'm also noticing players and NPCs appear out of nowhere like I've never seen before this update. I see no 'lag' or 'latency'.

Also, maybe related, maybe not, on the character selection screen there's a pause of a second or more from clicking a character plate on the right to the scene changing and the character being shown, again I've never seen this at all before this update.

    Hey there @Kragorn,

This is usually related to phasing or "layering" in the game. For instance, Stonetooth Fortress likely has two different states, one where it's a spider infested nightmare and another where it's cleared out by you.

What you're probably seeing is the default spider infested layer from a distance. As you approach the location, it then switches to the "victory" layer and removes the mobs you thought you had to fight.

We're always looking to improve these layer transitions, so if you run into a weird one like this, please be sure to bug it!

Ah, I didn't realise or recall this was a phased area, certainly the character who experienced this had completed the zone so would have the 'victory' layer as you refer to it; had I realised there was phasing here I'd likely not have thought it 'odd'.

    Cheers.
