Is stealing and murdering a good thing for the game?

I don't really understand why stealing and murdering is fun myself, but a lot of players seem to like it (I find that disturbing, but that's just me).

No one is forcing you to do it though, so if you don't like stealing and murdering, don't do it. :)

u do realise peoples morals in a game dont match up to what they want to do in real life right..? or that the character you see in the game arent real? just checking. =P

Long live Sithis, Assassin's Creed, and Thieves Guild... In that order...

    It's an Elder Scrolls thing.

Just a shame I can't move and hide the bodies....or you know, put them in interesting positions.....

    o:) .... >:)

I liked throwing the dead Dremora off the ledges in the Oblivion gate Towers in TES:IV

How come it is felt as a bad, or "immoral", thing now that it shows "steal item" as text next to the "E"-Button as opposed to "use" from before? Was it less immoral only because the player kind of "lied" to himself by omitting what he was really doing - stealing?

How is it less murder, if you go out and kill a bandit (from stealth, if you will) without being provoked, as opposed to do that to a citizen of a "friendly" city?

This whole discussion leaves me flabbergasted. Nothing changed in regards to the player's deeds - only in regards to the consequences of his actions. No matter how you look at it.

The bandit didn't steal from you, he is called bandit because someone else dubbed him so. Or, in other words, why is the regular citizen of Wayrest a morally acceptable target if you meet him in Cyrodiil (as, e.g. an Ebonheart citizen)?

If you think there's a lot of bodies now, just wait until the Dark Brotherhood are put in the game ... ;)

It makes it feel more like an ES title IMO. This has been a part of ES titles since the beginning. It may just be more noticeable to you now as the streets seem to be lined with corpses at the minute ...

I've been around Haven after the patch and luckily haven't seen chaos there.
I understood that in phase two you choose guards or thieves but I'd like to be able to do bit both.
I'd like to have ability to always steal but also interwene if someone keeps murdering my faction townsfolk.

I know you can change sides but anyone have any idea how that will work? Talk to some npc and come back when it is too late? Just switch something from options. And can guards steal or is it blocked from them somehow?

I tried to be helpful. A dude was running away from three other guys. The fight seemed unfair. So I jumped in... helped out and accidentally became a murderer. Oops!

Yeah I think it would have consequences in real life too if you killed a married couple chasing down a mugger, trying to get their stuff back :D

I know that the stealing and killing are lore friendly, but seeing an NPC standing over his or her dead NPC body is freaking me out. That needs to be fixed; maybe, having them not respawn until their dead body de-spawns.

Yes, it should be like this...
