your old spell/weapon pots that give power+crit.. now just provide that major buff.. which of course (at least shouldnt) stack with ability or passive versions..

so if you have a pot chugging build, dont bother keeping Magelight or Entropy, as the buffs from the potion will not stack with the buffs from them.

this will likley see many people using their pots as before, not realizing they are no longer getting any real benefit other than the inital restore.

a example of a pre-1.6 chugging build, your Typical Sorc build, with Innerlight for crit and Crit Surge, etc, and using pots to further boost crit, would only be getting the boost of one of those abilitys..

so if you are focused on a pot chugging build, be mindful of the new buff system, you might be able to now free up a slot for an additional skill you previously had something slotted purely for a buff!

also, this change is not just limited to these Damage, crit buffs either, but even the after effect of all healing potions, which now just give a 20% boost major buff to that specific stat. because of how they work will not stack with abilities like Radiant Aura, etc.
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

When did you test it last time ? I did not test potions after 1.6.2, but they stated that potions now actualy DO give all the bonuses they should give regardless of any buffs you alrdy have.

    Potions activate all bonuses associated.

They either add the effect, or refresh the duration if it was already present.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

IRL'ing for a while for assorted reasons, in forum, and in game.

    This is wrong.

Here is what the 1.6.3 patchnotes said:
Fixed an issue where potion buffs were not being applied when you had an ability active that applied the same buff.

Here is a note from 1.6.1 that better frames what that means:
Fixed an issue that prevented drinking a potion if you already had the same buff or effect that the potion would provide. Now, you will drink the potion and receive any benefit from it that your character doesn’t already have. Drinking a potion will also refresh the same type of buff or effect if the remaining duration is shorter than what the potion will apply.

So as of 1.6.1, you're supposed to gain effects you don't already have, and if you already have the an effect, it's supposed to refresh it. In this light, the note from 1.6.3 does not seem to suggest the buffs should stack, but rather that the buff wasn't refreshing properly (poor verb choice on their part). I also tested this myself last week and found potion and ability buffs of the same type do not stack. If two Major buffs just stacked with one another, that would very over-powered, which is why I suggested a smart scaling system for stacking potion and Major/Minor buff effects in my thread.

For those interested, please check out my thread compiling all the changes/potential issues to everything potion-related in 1.6.
